Chapter 199 [Mechanical City] The Elevator That Only Goes Up

The three looked around warily and discovered that the hall was a huge circular structure.

The floor is made of dark gray metal panels with straight and neat seams, and the ceiling is inlaid with neatly arranged light strips that emit a uniform white light, illuminating the entire hall.

There is an elevator every five meters or so along the walls of the circular hall.

Looking around, there are at least fifty elevators, each with the exact same design and a smooth, mirror-like metal door.

The three of them stood in the hall for about ten minutes. There were no mechanical monsters, no alarms, and nothing happened.

The entire hall was as quiet as an empty warehouse.

The young man standing in the middle summoned the system chat group and sent a message. He quickly swiped his finger across the screen and sent a short message.

[Liu Feng: There's no danger inside; there are many elevators.]

The moment the message was sent, he realized that it was actually meaningless; the door was not closed at all, and the passengers outside could clearly see everything that was happening in the hall.

All the passengers on train G4939 in the square summoned their respective system panels, and blue light screens rose and fell in the gray-white skylight.

Chen Ye and his group also looked down at the light screen in front of them.

Zhao Guan put down the panel and turned to look at Chen Ye: "It seems there's no problem. Shall we go in?"

Chen Ye turned his gaze away from the light screen: "Go in, go in with them. There's an elevator inside, which means we should be able to go up this control tower."

Qin Zhaoyang leaned over from the side, his tone carrying an undisguised air of experience: "I know this one like the back of my hand. It's definitely a tower climb. Based on my years of online gaming experience, there should be a boss monster every ten floors."

Chen Ye didn't reply; his gaze was already fixed on the center of the square.

Lu Qingchuan walked to Zhong Xiu's side and showed her the light screen in front of him.

Zhong Xiu glanced at the contents of the panel, then turned to his two teammates behind him and said, "Let's go in."

She strode toward the open metal door, with Yang Lan and Sun Wu following behind her on either side.

Lu Qingchuan also put away the panel, turned his head and said something to Wang Zekai, and then led the team to follow.

"Come on, let's go in too."

Chen Ye withdrew his gaze and strode toward the metal door.

Zhao Hai, Wen Ning, Qin Zhaoyang, and Zhou Yating followed closely behind, while Gu Qinghuan caught up from the back of the group, walking at a leisurely pace.

The six people passed through the metal gate and entered the lobby on the first floor of the control tower.

The metal floor beneath my feet was flat and hard, making no extra sound when I stepped on it, while cold white lights poured down from above.

Chen Ye stood at the edge of the hall, his gaze quickly sweeping across the surrounding walls. He counted the number of elevators: a total of 52, arranged in a complete ring.

Each elevator has a metal sign next to it that says it can only carry 25 people. These elevators are currently stopped on the first floor.

Qin Zhaoyang's gaze swept over the silver-white elevator doors as well, and he muttered to himself, "Is it really necessary to install so many elevators? The person who designed this control tower must be a genius."

Wen Ning withdrew her gaze from the elevators: "This is a survival trial, and it cannot be understood in the usual way. This design must have its purpose."

Zhong Xiu's group stood on the other side of the hall, talking in hushed tones.

Lu Qingchuan's group stopped near the exit, and the four of them spread out in a loose formation.

Wang Zekai was patting the metal door panel of an elevator with his palm, as if testing its material.

Other passengers from the square also entered one after another. More than forty people were scattered throughout the circular hall.

No one pressed the elevator button; all eyes were on the silver-white doors and floor displays.

Liu Feng and his two companions stood in the center of the hall, their expressions tense.

At this moment, Zhong Xiu's gaze turned to Liu Feng and the other two. She looked at the three figures standing in the center of the hall and said, "You three, go upstairs in the elevator and send the information about what's happening upstairs to the group chat."

A young man next to Liu Feng was about to step forward to refuse when he was stopped by him.

Now they can only accept their bad luck; refusing will only lead to their death. Zhong Xiu can kill them and then go catch other guinea pigs. They have no right or bargaining power to refuse.

The three walked to the nearest elevator. Liu Feng reached out and pressed the button next to the elevator. The elevator door opened silently, and the three of them stepped into the elevator.

刘峰看了一眼电梯内的楼层按钮,从1到100层,其中1楼到10楼的按钮上的数字是亮着的,11楼至100楼的按钮上的数字没有点亮。

He pressed the button for the 100th floor but there was no response. He then pressed the buttons for the 80th, 60th, and 40th floors, but still no response.

"Does this mean I can't go to floors where the button isn't lit?"

Another young man said in a low voice.

Liu Feng didn't reply. He stretched out his finger and pressed the button for the 10th floor. This time there was a response. The elevator doors closed silently and then began to ascend rapidly.

The entire queue in the lobby gathered around, and everyone's eyes were focused on the constantly rising numbers on the floor display screen next to the elevator.

2th floor

5th floor

8th floor

10th floor.

The numbers on the floor display no longer change.

Chen Ye immediately brought up the system chat group and then saw the message sent by Liu Feng.

[Liu Feng (Carriage 5): The elevator only goes up to the 10th floor. There are mechanical monsters here! Come quickly and save us!]

Immediately following was an inquiry message from Lu Qingchuan.

[Lu Qingchuan (Carriage 3): What kind of monsters are they? Elite or BOSS level? How many are there?]

Chen Ye stared at the system chat for a full minute, but Liu Feng didn't send any messages.

He led the elevator to the elevator, pressed the down button, but there was no response. The floor display still showed 10 floors, and the elevator did not come down.

Then he understood why there were so many elevators in the lobby: these elevators could only go up, not down, or rather, they could not go down unless a certain condition was triggered.

"Those three people are most likely gone. There are mechanical monsters on the tenth floor, and they seem to be quite strong. Liu Feng was killed before he could even send a second message."

Chen Ye stated his judgment.

He said this to all the passengers present.

Standing behind Zhong Xiu, Yang Lan stepped forward and said, "Sister Zhong, should we send someone up to try again?"

Chen Ye glanced at Yang Lan: "I advise you not to do this. The number of elevators is limited. If all the elevators here go up, then the passengers who are still outside will not have a chance to go up and will only be able to kill those ordinary monsters in the city."

"There are a total of 52 elevators here, each with a capacity of 25 people, for a total of 1300 people. The Samsung Trial can have a maximum of four trains participating at the same time. Assuming each train is fully loaded with 320 people, the total number of people is 1280. Under full load conditions, the elevators here can just cover the number of people in four fully loaded trains."

He paused, then continued, "Of course, only two trains are involved in this survival trial, but if we keep sending lab rats up, the elevators will eventually run out of space, and there's another point..."

"What do I care if there are enough elevators?"

Wu Xiu interrupted Chen Ye, but she had no intention of catching the white mice, as it would be a waste of time.

She had nothing to worry about if the floor only contained mechanical monsters.

She then led Yang Lan and Sun Wu to the elevator next to them and pressed the button next to the elevator.

The elevator doors slid open, and the three of them stepped inside. The doors closed, and the numbers on the floor display began to jump, eventually stopping at the 10th floor.

Two of the 52 elevators went up, but only six people went up.
