Death Train: SSS-level talent right from the start!

Chapter 198 [Mechanical City] Zhong Xiu

Chen Ye's gaze swept quickly across the square, where Lu Qingchuan's team stood on the west side.

Lu Qingchuan noticed Chen Ye's gaze, nodded slightly, but did not lead his team over.

Wu Hao and Lü Yang also arrived. The two stood on the east side of the square, without any other team members beside them, indicating that it was a two-person team.

The remaining people numbered about thirty or forty, scattered in twos and threes throughout the square.

Some people stood alone in a corner, some chatted in small groups, and some closed their eyes to rest.

For now, all is well, because no one has a survival marker above their head, and no one has dared to enter the control tower.

Qin Zhaoyang peeked out from behind Chen Ye, his gaze sweeping over the motionless lines in the square. He lowered his voice and said, "What are these people waiting for? Why don't they go in and take a look?"

Wen Ning smiled gently: "They probably don't want to be the first to go in, and they're all waiting for others to go in first. The teams that have come now should all be quite strong, otherwise someone would have been used as a guinea pig."

Qin Zhaoyang pursed his lips: "What about us?"

Chen Ye turned his gaze away from the tightly closed metal door of the control tower: "Let's wait. We still have plenty of time. We've killed quite a few mechanical monsters along the way, but we haven't gotten a single survival mark. Obviously, we'll have to enter this control tower to get the mark."

He turned his head to look at Gu Qinghuan: "Can you sense what's inside the control tower from here?"

Gu Qinghuan stood at the edge of the line, her eyes closed. After a few seconds, she opened her eyes and shook her head slightly: "I can't sense it. This control tower can block my senses."

Chen Ye nodded slightly, said nothing more, and led his team to stop at the edge of the square.

This is a great spot; it allows me to see everyone's movements in the square without exposing myself to too much of their view.

Just then, footsteps came from the east side of the square.

A group of six people walked towards the square.

Leading the way was a dark-skinned, burly, and fierce-looking middle-aged woman, who was Zhong Xiu, the Class 22 passenger on train G438 mentioned by the short-haired youth.

Behind her were three young men in their early twenties, their heads bowed, their clothes torn to varying degrees, as if they had just gone through some unfriendly "negotiations".

Behind them were a man and a woman.

The man is in his early thirties and of medium build.

The women were of similar age and had short, ear-length hair.

These two people were the Class of 21 passengers on train G1928; the man's name was Sun Wu, and the woman's name was Yang Lan.

"Looks like Jonghoo has found a guinea pig."

A voice came from a passenger not far to Chen Ye's left, and it was very low.

Another voice followed, softer than the first: "Those three white mice don't seem to be from our train; they look unfamiliar."

Chen Ye didn't turn to look at the person speaking; his gaze remained fixed on the group that was walking into the square. The highest-ranking group from train G4928 had appeared.

Qin Zhaoyang's voice came from behind Chen Ye, lowered even further: "That woman looks really fierce."

The other passengers in the square had obviously noticed the newly arrived group as well, and their eyes, which had been scattered throughout the square, were now gradually converging on the group.

Zhong Xiu ignored those gazes.

She stopped in the center of the square, her gaze sweeping over the crowd that had gathered there. Then she spoke, her voice rough and loud: "Who's on train G4932? Come out and speak."

The square fell silent for a moment.

No one answered.

Chen Ye did not respond. He put his hands in his pockets and looked calmly at the woman in the center of the square.

Wu Hao and Lü Yang stood on the east side of the square, remaining motionless.

Wu Hao glanced at Lü Yang, who shook his head slightly. The two reacted identically, pretending not to hear.

A brief silence lingered in the square for two or three seconds, then someone moved on the west side of the square.

Lu Qingchuan stepped from the edge of the square toward the center.

Wang Zekai followed a step behind him, his nonchalant expression somewhat toned down.

Shen Nanxing and Gulina followed behind.

Lu Qingchuan stopped about two meters away from Zhong Xiu.

Zhong Xiu was slightly shorter than Lu Qingchuan, but her imposing presence was no less.

"I was on train G4928."

Lu Qingchuan spoke calmly and patiently, looking at Zhong Xiu and waiting for her to continue.

Zhong Xiu didn't waste any words. She tilted her head and gestured with her chin towards the three young men behind her who had their heads down: "I've arrested three people from your train. Let them go in and check the situation first. Chat messages between different trains aren't shared, so once they're inside, they'll send messages in your train's chat group. Let me know the results."

Lu Qingchuan glanced at the three people in the direction she indicated, then looked away: "No problem."

Zhong Xiu said no more, turned around and looked at the three young men, coldly saying, "You three, get inside."

The three men stood behind her, heads bowed, and the moment their names were called, their shoulders tensed simultaneously.

The one standing in the middle was the first to raise his head, his gaze sweeping back and forth between the huge metal door in front of him and Zhongxiu. His lips moved as if he wanted to say something.

Zhong Xiu didn't give him a chance to speak. She took half a step forward, looking down at him condescendingly: "Do you need me to repeat myself?"

The young man's Adam's apple bobbed, but he ultimately said nothing.

He glanced at the two people beside him; both of them were also pale-faced.

The three of them stood still for a few seconds, then started walking at the same time.

In the square, the passengers who were originally scattered in various places have now gathered in large numbers.

Some people stood a dozen meters away craning their necks, while others had already walked to the vicinity of the center of the square, their eyes all fixed on the metal door.

Chen Ye led Zhao Hai, Wen Ning, and the others a few steps toward the center of the square and stopped about twenty meters from the gate.

This distance is enough to see what's happening inside the door, but not enough to get too close.

When the three youths reached the huge metal door, it opened automatically, revealing the outline of the control tower's interior space from the plaza—an extremely spacious hall, several sizes larger than the plaza itself.

The floor of the hall was also made of dark gray metal panels with straight and neat seams, just like the plaza outside.

The ceiling is inlaid with neatly arranged light strips, which emit a uniform white light, illuminating the entire hall.

The hall was empty; there was nothing there.

There were no mechanical constructs, no guards, no obstacles, only a vast, empty space.

The three young men stood in front of the metal gate, looked at each other, and then reluctantly went inside.

The massive metal door, seven or eight meters high, did not close quickly as they had expected; instead, it remained open.

This gave them a slight sense of relief.
