Warden of the Beast World: Everyone is a Hakimi
Chapter 76 Flying Too Fast to Stop
When Chi Heng landed at the Northern Frontier camp, it caused quite a stir.
Most of the soldiers in the Northern Territory had only heard of the fearsome reputation of the young chieftain of the Vermilion Bird Clan, and very few had actually seen the face of this most ruthless man in the empire.
At that moment, a large, crimson bird with a wingspan of several meters swooped down from the sky, its tail feathers trailing golden-red streaks in the setting sun, making the entire camp appear as if it were bathed in fiery clouds.
He circled halfway around the camp, accurately located the Ghost Hunter's tent, folded his wings, landed, and transformed into human form, carrying several bulging storage rings in his hand.
"Four-legged beast, I've brought you supplies." Chi Heng tossed the ring into You Lie's arms and dusted off his hands.
"What did you call me?" Ghost Hunter caught the ring, his gray-blue eyes narrowing slightly.
"Four-legged beast, huh? I've broken through too, I'm not afraid of you." Chi Heng put his hands on his hips, his tail feathers sticking up high. He was now an SS-rank, on par with You Lie, and besides, he was already Ye Tang's rightful beast husband, unlike some rookie still in the probationary period. Ye Tang wasn't here, so he naturally didn't need to grovel.
"If I told Tangtang that you bullied me..." Youlie wasn't angry. He just lowered his head and played with the storage ring in his hand, his tone nonchalant.
"Brother Youlie! I was wrong!" Chiheng slid to his knees instantly, grabbing Youlie's sleeves with both hands. "I'm going back now, you're not allowed to tell Xiaotangtang."
The Vermilion Bird Clan's heirloom is still in Ye Tang's hands. What if Ye Tang finds out he bullied You Lie in the Northern Territory and beats him with a stick? He endured so many beatings from his grandfather for so many years before finally getting ahead; he can't let his own wife break his record.
"I'll try my best." A slight smile appeared on Youlie's lips.
"Brother Youlie, why should a male beast make things difficult for another male beast? You are a magnanimous person, please forgive my youth and ignorance." Chiheng's attitude was as sincere as could be.
"Chi Heng?" A deep, authoritative voice came from the side. Jing Yao walked out of the tent, and a hint of surprise flashed in his amber eyes when he saw Chi Heng.
The Vermilion Bird before us is a completely different person from the one in Prison Zero. Not only has it broken through to SS-level, but its aura has also become much more composed.
He remembered that Chi Heng was S+ when he went to prison, and he didn't break through even after staying in Zero Prison for so long, but he broke through after only a few days out.
"You broke through too?"
"That's right, I'm the Vermilion Bird, a divine beast. It's just a breakthrough, no need to make a fuss." Chi Heng spread his wings smugly and shook them, his crimson feathers shimmering in the sunset of the Northern Territory.
"What are you doing in the Northern Territory?" Jing Yao's gaze fell on the storage rings that Chi Heng had just tossed to You Lie.
"Little Tangtang asked me to deliver supplies to the Ghost Hunters."
"You come just because she told you to?" Jing Yao raised an eyebrow almost imperceptibly. He had known this firebird for a long time; the title of the Empire's Number One Roughneck wasn't given for nothing. This guy, who even dared to demolish the military headquarters building, was being bossed around by a little female and still looked so proud.
"Marshal, isn't it normal for male beasts to obey their wives since ancient times?" Chi Heng puffed out his chest, not seeing anything wrong with it. As soon as he finished speaking, Jing Yao's face visibly darkened several shades.
This impetuous firebird got married before him? He was touched on the head and had his ears rubbed by Ye Tang in Prison Zero, and he didn't even have a proper place in her heart, while Chi Heng, the newcomer, has already openly called her "wife".
Jing Yao remained silent for a moment, and when he spoke again, his tone returned to the usual businesslike manner of Marshal Baihu, but there was a hint of calculation in his amber eyes.
"The beast tide from the North is approaching, and currently, we only have one SS-level combatant who cannot fully control the situation. Young Chief Chiheng possesses the bloodline of a divine beast and has just broken through to SS-level. He should stay and contribute to the Empire."
"No, Jingyao! I disagree! I'm not your soldier!" Chiheng flapped his wings, took a big step back, and made as if he was about to take off.
Stay in the Northern Territory to be Jing Yao's laborer? Is he crazy? He just got married, just broke through to the next level, and just enjoyed a few days of being the only one pampered. How could he possibly accompany these bachelors to hunt beasts in this godforsaken, cold land?
Youlie reached out and grabbed Chiheng's shoulder. "The Marshal is right." This firebird has monopolized Yetang's affections while he's away, even getting access to the bedroom's floor mat. He's treated like a donkey in the North, while he's living the high life at home. Letting him stay is just as good, to collect some interest.
"Youlie! I need to go back to protect Xiaotangtang! A new inmate has arrived at Zero Prison! Let me go back, or my home will be raided! What if some male beast with ill intentions tries to get close to Xiaotangtang again!" Chiheng blurted out anxiously.
Ghost Hunter immediately released his grip. "Go."
Freed from the restraints of the Shadow Hunter, Chi Heng flapped its wings and instantly transformed into a streak of crimson light, disappearing into the horizon at an astonishing speed, as if afraid someone might catch up with it.
Jing Yao watched the fleeting red light, then turned to look at You Lie.
Youlie stood there, shrugged, and looked as innocent as could be: "He flew too fast, I couldn't stop him."
It was late at night when Chi Heng flew back to Zero Prison. He saw the small, gray-white detached house in the living quarters standing quietly under the moonlight, with warm yellow light still shining from the window of Ye Tang's bedroom. He folded his wings in the air, silently landed in the yard, transformed into human form, and gently pushed open the door.
He carried the blanket he had rolled up from the living room sofa, and skillfully made his way to the bedroom door. Peeking inside, he saw Ye Tang leaning against the headboard, engrossed in reading a thick book, "The Complete Book of Imperial Folk Culture."
She's been cramming on the courtship customs of various races lately. She didn't know what it meant when she received Chiheng's tail feathers last time, and she was betrothed to Cangming after touching his fish tail. She can't afford to be taken advantage of like that again.
"Little Tangtang, your young master is back." Chi Heng spread the blanket on the floor, taking over the carpet where You Lie used to lie every night. With Xinji Lang not around, the floor was his, and today he even folded the blanket into a neat rectangle.
Before Ye Tang could ask him if his trip to the Northern Border went smoothly, she saw Chi Heng sitting on the edge of the bed, leaning close to her, his nose almost touching her shoulder.
He sniffed from her shoulder to her collar like an alert hunting dog, his bloodshot eyes wide open. Then his lips trembled, his eyes filled with tears, and he burst into sobs.
"Waaaaah... Little Tangtang, I only went to the Northern Territory to deliver supplies, and in just a few hours you've already found another beast... Waaaaah... His body is ice cold, and he's a male beast... Waaaaah... Little Tangtang, you don't love me anymore..." Chi Heng cried more and more sadly, tears falling like beads from a broken string.
He flew three hours to the northern border to deliver food to the cunning wolf, and then flew another three hours back, full of joy, thinking he could finally snuggle into Wild Tang's arms and act cute. But as soon as he entered the door, he smelled the scent of a strange male beast.
"No, why are you arguing with a cub?" Ye Tang quickly put the book aside.
