Warden of the Beast World: Everyone is a Hakimi
Chapter 23 is keen on arguing with Ye Tang.
After the food expenses for Jingyao, Hanzhou, and Chiheng were received, the standard of Yetang's kitchen was upgraded dramatically.
She used to just make do with a small grill and a portable gas stove when she cooked, but now that she has millions of star coins in her account, she feels she has to live up to the trust of her patrons.
So she made a special trip to the Space Supermarket—the chilled section had whole lamb chops, steaks with evenly distributed marbling, and marinated honey-glazed pork ribs; the fresh seafood section had salmon, prawns, scallops, and oysters; and the cooked food section even had pre-cleaned and shucked garlic oysters, arranged in refrigerated containers waiting to be cooked.
The daily menu has also been fixed. Jingyao is a carnivore, so lamb leg, lamb chops, and steak are served in rotation, with plenty of portions; Hanzhou prefers poultry and red meat, so chicken breast, roasted chicken legs, and steaks are served in different varieties.
Chi Heng wasn't picky about meat, but he was particularly fond of sweets, always requiring an extra popsicle or ice cream with his meals. Ye Tang pushed three food carts back and forth in the corridor every day, and the meals in observation areas one, two, and four were so plentiful that they could fill a banquet.
After delivering to these three people, she would always have some leftover scraps or extra meat. Adhering to the core value of "not wasting food," she would pack up the excess and send it to Cangming in Observation Zone No. 5.
The first two days' meals were roasted lamb chops and pan-fried steak. Cangming didn't say anything, and ate them, but not much—he put down the lamb chops after gnawing on two, and only took a few bites of the steak, leaving the rest quietly on his plate. Yetang saw this and kept it in mind.
This mermaid doesn't seem to like red meat. Come to think of it, mermaids are sea creatures. Making a fish eat lamb legs every day is no different from making a land-dwelling beastman eat seaweed every day.
She started trying to change the menu for Cangming. The first thing she changed was salmon sashimi—the salmon pieces in the refrigerated section of the Space Supermarket were cut neatly, and the orange and white stripes were as beautiful as marble. She laid them out on a plate, with a small dish of soy sauce and wasabi on the side.
When Cangming saw the salmon, he turned his back to the door slightly. Although he still didn't say anything, he ate the whole plate of sashimi clean, even scraping off the soy sauce dish.
Ye Tang understood.
The second time, she tried grilling some oysters. Garlic oysters, the semi-finished product came with a pre-mixed garlic sauce, the shells were already opened, and she placed them on the grill and grilled them over high heat for five minutes. The garlic turned golden brown under the high temperature, the edges of the oyster meat curled up slightly, and the juices bubbled and simmered inside the shells.
She baked two large trays, one for Jing Yao as a side dish, and the other packed separately for Cang Ming. When she entered Observation Zone No. 5, Cang Ming was still sitting by the pool with his back to her, his fish tail swaying slowly in the water, his long hair hanging down behind him, with an indifferent attitude that said, "You can leave once you've put down your things."
Ye Tang placed the plate of oysters on the stone platform, deliberately positioning it far enough away from him that he would have to turn around and reach out to reach it. Then she took two steps back, remained silent, and waited.
Cangming waited a moment, but didn't hear her footsteps leaving. He turned his head slightly, his peripheral vision catching sight of the plate on the stone table—it didn't contain lamb chops, steak, or chicken breast, but oysters. The aroma of garlic and the unique sweetness of oysters mingled together, drifting into his nostrils with the moist air.
He was silent for a brief moment, then turned around, reached out and took the plate. With his slender fingers, he picked up an oyster shell, tilted his head back, and poured the oyster meat and minced garlic into his mouth.
Then he stopped for a moment.
Sea creatures eat nothing more than raw fish, shrimp, shellfish, and seaweed in the sea. When they occasionally come ashore, they only consume nutritional supplements. No one has ever thought of grilling, seasoning, or making sea creatures taste like this.
The garlic is fragrant and caramelized, the oyster meat is tender and smooth, and the salty and fresh flavor has a slightly sweet aftertaste. It tastes completely different from the sea, but every bite reminds him that this is something from the sea, this is the taste of home.
He finished the whole plate of oysters without saying a word. Then came the second, and the third. When the plate was empty, he still didn't speak, but simply tapped a few times on his personal terminal.
Ye Tang's personal terminal vibrated. She looked down and saw—[Your account has received a transfer of 2,000,000 Star Coins, payer: Cang Ming, remarks: none.] No remarks, amount: two million.
Ye Tang looked up at Cang Ming, who had already put the plate back on the stone platform and turned around again. His fish tail swayed slowly in the water, and his back still had that aloof and unapproachable look, as if the two million had nothing to do with him.
Ye Tang looked at that arrogant back, then at the long string of zeros on the personal terminal, took a deep breath, straightened up, placed her hands on her trouser seams, and gave a proper ninety-degree bow: "Boss, you're so generous!"
Cangming didn't turn around. But his fishtail gently slapped the surface of the water, splashing up a small spray.
From that day on, seafood was officially added to Wild Tang's menu. Salmon sashimi, garlic oysters, salt-grilled prawns, butter-fried scallops, and seaweed salad were delivered to Observation Zone No. 5 every day with a different menu. It was normal for Cangming to eat without talking, but his plate would always be empty.
In stark contrast to the quiet and peaceful atmosphere of Observation Zone 5 was Observation Zone 3.
Ling Shou still only offers nutritional supplements and catnip.
It wasn't that Ye Tang was deliberately targeting him, nor was it that Ye Tang was petty or vengeful—Ye Tang considered himself a highly professional worker, and as long as the money was right, the service would definitely be top-notch.
The problem is that Ling Shou hasn't given her a single penny. The catnip he eats every day was grown and harvested by Ye Tang herself, and provided for free. Based on Lu Yu's purchase price, Ling Shou has already gotten several bundles of catnip worth 500,000 yuan for free. This young patriarch of the Tianling Falcon Clan not only shows no gratitude, but also argues with her every day when she brings him food.
"Free-range chicken, here's your supplement." Ye Tang pushed the plate into the conveyor belt, adding catnip and a supplement, without even mixing in a vegetable salad for him.
"Little Sprout, what did you bake for Jingyao today?" Ling Shou stood on the perch, his sharp eagle eyes fixed on her.
"What's it to you? You didn't pay."
"As I said, you can eat first and pay later—"
"I'm afraid you'll renege on your debt."
"Would I, the dignified young patriarch of the Skyfeather Falcon Clan, renege on your debt?!"
"Then pay up!"
Ling Shou was stuck. It wasn't that he didn't have the money; his account balance was more than Ye Tang's entire fortune combined, but he just didn't want to pay.
The reasons were complicated—first, he felt he was the only one being treated differently; the other four had extra food, so why should he have to pay to get meat? Second, as the young clan leader, how could he face the Skyfeather Falcon Clan if word got out that he, a mere female, was being chased for money?
Third, and most importantly, he enjoyed arguing with her. The few minutes he spent least boring each day were when Ye Tang pushed her food cart past Observation Zone No. 3.
When this little female argued, her eyes would sparkle, her cheeks would puff out slightly, and her words would be sharp and sarcastic, but there was never any real malice on her face. Even when she lost an argument, she wouldn't hold a grudge; the next day she'd still come to deliver his food, full of energy, and continue calling him "free-range chicken." He didn't dislike this feeling. But he would never say it aloud.
"Just you wait and see," Ling Shou huffed, snatched the catnip and nutrient solution, flapped its wings, and flew back to the top of the perch. "Tomorrow I'll throw the money in your face."
The next day, his plate still contained nutritional supplements and catnip.
Where is your money?
"I forgot."
"Forgot means it didn't exist, you free-range chicken."
"Little bean sprout!"
Another day.
"Did you pay today?"
"……tomorrow."
"Tomorrow and tomorrow and tomorrow, how many tomorrows there are!"
"Where did you learn to talk like that!"
"What I learned from nine years of compulsory education, you illiterate bird."
Ling Shou was so angry that he stomped around on the perch, making the metal frame bang loudly. "Illiterate bird," she called him. He was the young patriarch of the Skyfeather Falcon Clan, having received the most elite education in the entire empire from a young age, fluent in three foreign languages, and able to understand the highest-level combat simulations, yet in her words he was an illiterate bird.
But he really didn't know the story behind "tomorrow and tomorrow and tomorrow, how many tomorrows there are!" This female always uttered words he had never heard before, such as "free-range chicken," "illiterate bird," and "nine-year compulsory education." Every word was so novel that he had no way to refute it.
He stood on the perch, looking down at Ye Tang's retreating figure as she pushed the food cart away, a small piece of his silver-gray falcon feather fluttering down in anger. Tomorrow. Tomorrow he would definitely get his revenge.
