Warcraft: When NPCs Have Player Panels
Chapter 5 William Joins the Team
After the official World of Warcraft maintenance ended, a major update announcement quickly spread throughout the Azeroth player community.
Due to the influence of the super-powered AI Elune, a very small number of NPCs have begun to gain the ability to think and act independently.
We think this is really cool, just like we envisioned, so this update significantly enhances the interaction between NPCs and players.
The NPC intelligence system, which was previously tested, has been fully launched. Like all players, we look forward to encountering more interesting things, which we believe is what a real world should be like.
......
-----------------
After the strangers disappeared, William decided to leave. His unease grew stronger after killing several provocative strangers.
He clearly remembered that these strangers could connect with their fellow strangers through divine power. More than once, they spoke to him about how they lived in their own worlds. The connection between them was very strong.
William felt he should hide away and return to the monastery's military camp.
The monastery has high walls and a large number of brothers and sisters of the Holy Light. With their protection, I should be much safer.
This should be a good idea.
William was unaware that Xia Yige's video had already gone viral, garnering over a million views. More and more players, their curiosity piqued, abandoned dungeons and daily quests, switching planes to flood into Tirisfal Glades. All they wanted was to see this NPC who could camp corpses and possessed independent consciousness.
William stopped when he reached the city walls outside the monastery.
After a night of fierce fighting with the strangers, dawn had broken. He saw a red-haired priestess waiting quietly beneath the city gate.
As he approached, the young priestess said reproachfully, "William, where were you last night? Why were you nowhere to be seen in the camp all night?"
William lowered his head, unsure of where to begin, having never said anything like this before.
Taylor was William's neighbor, and since childhood, she had always protected him from being bullied by other children. When Taylor came of age, she was discovered to have an affinity for the Holy Light and was taken to the secret realm of the cathedral, where she studied diligently.
She would only leave the church occasionally to see him. Unlike William, Taylor was a genuine priest.
In the past, whenever a stranger mentioned to William that they were running dungeons in Scarlet Cathedral, William would always ask what "running dungeons" meant. He'd also wonder if they'd seen Taylor. He always looked forward to the stranger striking up a conversation with him, and then joining in the chat. If they asked about Taylor, he'd be happy to tell them their story.
No one ever cared about him, and no one ever tried to have a serious conversation with him.
Now, Taylor must have known he hadn't come back yesterday, which is why she came to the door to catch him. At this point, nothing she says can hide the fact that he didn't come back last night.
William's silence made Taylor frown. Like any older sister, she was angry at her disobedient younger brother.
A wooden staff, its tip inlaid with a red stone, struck William on the forehead. He swayed back to avoid Taylor's angry gesture. But this action caused William's system to interpret as an attack, and so...

This is the message from Taylor that came into William's view.
Although William felt that his strength attribute was higher than hers, seeing Taylor's level 38 and the attributes below it, William still felt that he should avoid her when she was angry.
So he turned and ran.
Taylor sighed, raised her staff and pointed it at William, who had run away. A white light immediately appeared above his head and entered his body.
True Word Technique: Resilience.
After watching William leave the monastery grounds, Taylor returned to the secluded monastery and slowly disappeared into the buildings.
.....
Tirisfal Glades is large enough for William to hide somewhere within it.
This is his own opinion.
William originally wanted to go back to the military camp for a walk, but because of Taylor, he didn't dare to stop, fearing that Taylor would beat him up.
With nothing else to do, he originally intended to continue patrolling the route he had walked for a long time, as usual. But he suddenly realized that he didn't need to do it anymore.
Those vanished strangers will reappear in Azeroth before long. At that time, I might be in danger.
It's better to stay away from it.
For the first time during the day, William deviated from his patrol route and walked along the western foothills of the monastery toward the sea.
He didn't know what to do, but the feeling was so strange that he couldn't help but be drawn into it. So he wandered aimlessly along the forest path, gradually moving away from the control of the monastery's crusaders.
"Wow! Is anyone there?! Holy crap, help us! I don't want to lose experience points!"
William stopped and looked toward the source of the cries for help.
A shrill soprano voice—it was the voice of strangers; they had returned.
"I told you long ago, this forest isn't safe! It's not safe! But you wouldn't listen to me and insisted on logging off right here!" came the man's furious voice.
"Now look what's happened, we're surrounded by gnolls."
"I don't know either. I'm a newbie, and you're an expert. Why don't you just drag me along?"
"So you're blaming me now?"
"What else can you do? Blame me?"
William cautiously crouched in the tall bushes and crept forward. In a camp within the gnoll territory, a bald human monk and a draenei female shaman were surrounded by a dozen gray-skinned undead gnolls.
These grey-skinned gnolls are not truly living creatures; they are undead zombies resurrected after being killed by the Scourge. These vile undead are the Scarlet Crusade's primary enemy in the western woodlands.
Fighting them requires extreme caution, otherwise any carelessness could result in injury or infection with the undead plague. If the plague is not dispelled by the priests in time, one could become a mindless monster and turn into an enemy of the Crusaders.
In the camp, the human monk was relentlessly defeating the undead gnolls with a single punch, drawing all their aggro. The Draenei shaman, meanwhile, had planted a small wooden stake in the ground, the stake vibrating and sending ripples of energy onto them.
William recognized it; it was a shaman's totem, used to provide various courage boosts. However, this shaman failed to notice that a gnoll lurked in the distant woods, holding a musket of unknown origin, aimed at her.
Seeing that the shaman was still focused on providing magical healing to the monk, the gnoll targeted her and was about to open fire.
From the bushes on the other side, William suddenly stood up, stepped back with his right foot, and stretched his right arm backward. Using his forearm to drive his upper arm and shoulder, he hurled the broken blade in his hand fiercely at the gnoll.
"careful!!"
The broken blade pierced through the gaps between several gnolls, grazed the astonished monk, and slammed heavily into the gnoll's forehead across the chaotic battlefield. The gnoll groaned a few times and flew backward.
"Wow! There's another one here!!" The shaman's scream made the monks turn around. They then realized that the gnolls surrounding them were only a minority. There were many more lurking outside, waiting to ambush them!
Since they remained hidden and did not appear, they were unaffected by the monks' taunts and waited quietly for an opportunity to ambush them!
"Damn! This is what the official said about the AI being enhanced? They can even launch tactical ambushes now!! This..." The monk's face instantly turned ugly. These enhanced AI-powered demi-human beasts could even emit hoarse, low, cold laughs. They surrounded the monk without attacking, making the monk and shaman's scalps tingle, and they both considered logging off.
Just then, the sound of a drum set entering the formation reached their ears.
The Draenei shaman turned around in surprise and saw a man in tattered red leather armor emerging from the bushes.
"Quick! Quick! Quick! Get him! Someone's coming, hurry!"
As the team leader, the monk saw someone requesting to join the team and casually clicked "accept".
then...
"The Crimson Recruit William has joined the ranks."
