Chapter 14 Jiang Wan and the Big Star Have Dinner Together
Shen Che called out her name.
The next second, he broke away from the crowd and strode into the reception room.
Shen Che walked up to Jiang Wan, his bright eyes scanning every detail of her face.
His voice was filled with unbelievable joy.
"I caught a glimpse of it out of the corner of my eye, and it felt familiar."
"I didn't expect it to really be you."
Jiang Wan stood up and looked up at him.
Seven years had passed, and he was much taller than I remembered, with broader shoulders and more defined features.
He exudes the charm of a mature man.
But those eyes remained unchanged, still gentle and clear.
"Brother Che".
Jiang Wan smiled and called out this name that she hadn't used in many years.
Shen Che blinked when he heard those two words.
He reached out to touch her head, but stopped himself as soon as he raised his hand, and looked at her carefully with his eyes.
"I've grown up."
"More beautiful than before."
Jiang Wan revealed two dimples, "Brother Che is even more handsome than before."
Shen Che coughed lightly, pursed his lips, and asked, "What are you doing at the magazine office?"
"I submitted an article that was selected, so I came to fill out a form." Jiang Wan picked up the form on the table and waved it.
Before Shen Che could say anything more, his assistant cautiously reminded him from behind, "Mr. Shen, the makeup artist is waiting..."
Shen Che glanced back at his assistant, then turned back to look at Jiang Wan.
"Wanwan, do you have anything else to do later?"
Jiang Wan thought for a moment, then said, "No."
"Then wait for me a bit. After I finish shooting for the magazine, let's have dinner together and have a good chat."
Seeing his expectant expression, Jiang Wan nodded, "Okay."
Shen Che walked to the door, then turned back to look at Jiang Wan, "Wait for me."
Jiang Wan smiled and said, "I understand."
That sunny and gentle boy next door, even now that he's grown up, is still the boy I remember.
After filling out the form, Jiang Wan did not leave the magazine office, but instead found a seat in the rest area outside.
She took out her phone, opened the Red Persimmon app, and started reading the novels she had saved.
About two hours later, Shen Che walked out of a room.
He changed his clothes—
A dark blue jacket over a black turtleneck sweater, paired with ripped dark jeans.
Her hair was meticulously styled by the stylist, making her look like a rock star straight out of a magazine cover.
But the smile on that face was not "aloof" at all.
"Have you been waiting long?"
He walked quickly to Jiang Wan, his tone apologetic.
"No, I'm just going to read for a bit." Jiang Wan put away her phone and stood up.
Shen Che smiled and asked, "What would you like to eat?"
Jiang Wan: "I'm fine with anything, you decide."
Shen Che: "I know a good restaurant, come with me."
The elevator goes directly to the parking lot.
Jiang Wan got into his nanny van.
His assistant and driver were sitting in front of him.
It takes about fifteen minutes to get from the magazine office to the restaurant.
Along the way, Shen Che asked many questions.
Where do you go to school? What do you study? How are your parents' health? Is your younger brother about to take the college entrance exam?
Jiang Wan answered his questions one by one and also asked about his recent situation.
Shen Che said that he has been acting since he graduated.
I'm currently filming a youth-themed TV series, and we'll be shooting scenes at S University on Friday.
He smiled and said, "We'll see each other again in a couple of days."
As they chatted, they arrived at the restaurant.
Shen Che booked a private room.
He had his assistant and driver dine in another private room.
Jiang Wan sat down and seemed a little reserved.
Although their lively conversation in the car had eased much of the tension, the private room was now quiet, and it was just the two of them.
Shen Che pushed the menu in front of her.
Order what you like to eat.
Jiang Wan didn't refuse, ordered two of her favorites, and pushed the menu back.
Shen Che added a few more.
Hearing him name the dishes to the waiter, a warm feeling welled up inside me.
These are all foods she loved to eat when she was a child.
Sweet and sour pork ribs, steamed shrimp with egg, stir-fried wild vegetables.
"Brother Che, you actually still remember."
Shen Che poured her a cup of tea and pushed it towards her.
"When you were little, you would come to my house for dinner and you would always order these dishes. It's hard not to remember them."
Jiang Wan smiled, unsure of what to say, and could only lower her head to drink water.
The dishes were served one after another and soon all the dishes were served. The two ate and chatted.
Shen Che talked about his experiences over the years.
After graduating from film school, he was selected by a talent agency, landed a role in an art film, won an award, and his career began to take off.
He spoke of it casually, but Jiang Wan knew that there must have been a lot of untold hardships behind it.
After Shen Che finished speaking, he asked her, "And you?"
How's university life going?
"Are you... in a relationship?"
He paused slightly when he said the last sentence.
Jiang Wan shook her head. "No."
Shen Che curled the corners of his lips, picked up a piece of pork rib and put it in his bowl, "Why? There's no way you wouldn't have suitors."
"Yes, but I don't want to talk about it." Jiang Wan put a bite of steamed egg into her mouth and mumbled, "I'm not interested, and I don't have the time."
"What are you busy with?"
"Teaching classes, part-time job."
Jiang Wan did not mention the family's debts.
Shen Che looked at her and thought of Jiang Wan when she was a child.
He was three years older than her.
He was in junior high school, and she was in elementary school.
She had two little braids and followed him around calling him "Brother Che, Brother Che." She had two shallow dimples when she smiled.
At that time, their family lived in Zhijiang County, and the two families were separated by a wall.
Later, his family's business did well, and the whole family moved to Haicheng city. The two families gradually lost contact.
He thought he had long forgotten the little girl next door.
Unexpectedly, after seven years, he could still recognize her at a glance.
Jiang Wan finished the spare ribs in her bowl and was about to pick up another piece when her phone suddenly vibrated.
She looked down—
The message from the business timeline.
Lie: [I'm awake]
It's 6 PM in China, but 6 AM in Boston.
Jiang Wan put down her chopsticks and typed a reply:
Nice Rabbit Squid: [Woke up so early? Do you want to go back to sleep?]
Lie: [Don't want to sleep]
Lie: [Send me a voice message]
Jiang Wan looked up at Shen Che. The man noticed her gaze and blinked. "What's wrong?"
"fine."
Jiang Wan lowered her head and typed a line—
Nice Rabbit Rice Squid: [This isn't very convenient, I'm eating out with my friends.]
The other side paused for a few seconds.
Lie: [Male?]
