Douluo Continent: The Demise of Yin and Yang, the Dragon God Descends
Chapter 41 One Year Later
Five years is just five seasons in the Douluo Continent, but for two growing children, five years is enough to change a lot.
The mornings at Haotian Sect always begin with the sound of bells in the mountains.
The long, steady tolling of the bell echoed among the mountains, startling the birds in the forest and waking the sleeping disciples of the sect. Zi Lingtian opened his eyes to the sound of the bell; his deep purple pupils flickered slightly in the morning light before returning to their usual calm.
He sat up in bed, his medium-length purple hair falling over his shoulders. The eleven-year-old boy had shed the naivety of a six-year-old, his features were more defined, and there was a maturity in his eyes that did not belong to his age. He was much taller than his peers, and although he could not be called burly yet, one could already see the tall and upright figure he would grow up to be.
Five years.
He stayed at the Haotian Sect for a full five years.
For the past five years, he has followed the same routine every day—cultivating in the early morning, practicing combat in the morning, studying soul beast studies and soul tool theory in the afternoon, and continuing to cultivate in the evening. He has thoroughly searched the Clear Sky Sect's library, from soul beast illustrations to soul skill theories, from continental geography to sect history, he has not let go of any book he can find.
Niu Tian and Titan imparted all their knowledge to him. These two powerful beings, both transformed from 100,000-year-old soul beasts, while not skilled in the systematic teaching of the soul master system, possessed combat experience and mastery of power far surpassing that of ordinary soul masters. Over the past five years, Zi Lingtian had sparred with them no less than a thousand times. From initially being unable to withstand even a single finger from Titan, to now being able to withstand a hundred moves from Niu Tian without defeat, his rapid progress astonished even the two well-traveled 100,000-year-old soul beasts.
Level 59.
This was his soul power level when he left the God Realm. After five years of cultivation, and with the support of three high-quality soul rings, his soul power had broken through to level sixty-three—a level sixty-three Soul Emperor, eleven years old.
This speed, placed on the Douluo Continent, would eclipse any genius. Even Tang San, at the age of eleven, was only a Soul Master of level forty-something. But Zi Lingtian didn't feel anything special about it—he knew his starting point was high: innate level thirty Soul Power, a Super God-level Martial Soul, and God King bloodline. With all these combined, his fast cultivation speed was only natural. If he were still slower than others, that would be a problem.
He was more concerned with the control and application of power.
For five years, he had almost never used the full power of the Destruction Scepter in public. The disciples of the Clear Sky Sect only knew that two exceptionally talented children had come to the sect, one of whom possessed twin martial souls and unfathomable strength, but no one had ever truly seen just how strong he was.
Zi Lingtian intentionally kept a low profile. Exposing too much under Tang San's divine sense was not a good thing.
He got up, dressed, and pushed open the door.
The morning air was crisp and moist, carrying the unique fragrance of mountain grass and trees. The bamboo in the courtyard was much taller than it had been five years ago, and a thin layer of bamboo leaves covered the bluestone ground, rustling underfoot.
The door to the next room opened at that moment.
Wang Dong'er walked out of the door, her long, light blue hair cascading down to her waist like a waterfall. The eleven-year-old girl already possessed a remarkable charm, with delicate features like a porcelain doll. Her large, bright, and lively light blue eyes had slightly upturned corners, exuding a natural pride and spirit.
The round-faced little girl from five years ago has now grown into a graceful young woman. She has a slender and well-proportioned figure, wearing a light blue outfit with a silver belt around her waist. She looks neat and tidy, with a touch of charm amidst her heroic spirit.
For five years, she had been using the name "Wang Dong'er." Zi Lingtian called her Wang Dong'er, Niu Tian and Titan called her Xiao Qi, and the disciples of Haotian Sect called her Junior Sister Wang. Her true identity—Tang Wutong, the Little Witch of the God Realm—was known only to the two of them.
"Good morning." Wang Dong'er glanced at Zi Lingtian, her tone indifferent, but a hint of tenderness was hidden in her large pink and blue eyes.
"Good morning." Zi Lingtian nodded.
The two walked side by side out of the courtyard and along the cobblestone path toward the dining hall. The mornings at the Haotian Sect were always quiet; only occasionally would they encounter one or two early-rising disciples, to whom they would nod in greeting.
Five years of living and working together had forged a tacit understanding between them that transcended words. With just a glance from Zi Lingtian, Wang Dong'er knew what he wanted to do; with a single movement from Wang Dong'er, Zi Lingtian could predict her next move. This tacit understanding, honed through countless battles fought side-by-side, was stronger than any words could express.
"Uncle Niu Tian is giving us recommendation letters today," Wang Dong'er said as she walked, her tone filled with anticipation. "Finally, I can go to Shrek Academy. I've been stuck in the Clear Sky Sect for five years, and I'm about to die of boredom."
Zi Lingtian glanced at her: "Shrek Academy is not like Haotian Sect. There are too many people and too many eyes there. You can't be as casual as you are in the sect."
"I know, I know, you've said it a hundred times." Wang Dong'er waved her hand impatiently. "I'm not a three-year-old. I know what I should and shouldn't do."
Zi Lingtian's lips twitched slightly, but she said nothing more.
Shrek Academy, the number one academy on the Douluo Continent, is also one of the core nodes in Tang San's plan. In the original novel, Huo Yuhao met Wang Dong here, and the two became close friends and later lovers, gradually moving towards the destiny that Tang San had planned for them.
Now, Wang Dong'er will enter Shrek Academy as a "disciple of the Haotian Sect" and meet Huo Yuhao.
Zi Lingtian knew this day would come sooner or later. He couldn't change Wang Dong'er's fate of going to Shrek Academy—it was Tang San's arrangement, which even the God of Destruction and the Goddess of Life couldn't stop, let alone him. But he could change Wang Dong'er's experience at Shrek Academy, protect her from becoming Tang San's pawn, and provide her with a way out at crucial moments.
This is what he has been doing for the past five years—accumulating strength and waiting for the right opportunity.
After breakfast, Niu Tian summoned the two children to the main hall of the Haotian Sect.
The main hall was even more solemn and majestic than it had been five years ago. Dark carpets covered the bluestone floor, and a huge plaque hung on the central wall, bearing the two characters "Haotian" in powerful and imposing strokes. Niu Tian stood below the plaque, wearing a dark blue robe today, his hair neatly combed, looking much more formal than usual.
Titan stood beside him, his white beard braided into a plait, the massive warhammer hanging from his waist, his expression unusually serious.
"Sixth Brother, Seventh Brother," Niu Tian's voice was steady and solemn, "You've been in the Haotian Sect for five years now. Titan and I have taught you everything we needed to. Now, it's time for you to go to Shrek Academy."
He took out two letters from his sleeve and handed them to Zi Lingtian and Wang Dong'er. The letters had the words "Shrek Academy Admissions Office" written in gold lettering on the cover, and the seal of the Haotian Sect was affixed to the closure.
