Mr. Zombie lingers in the city

Chapter 13 After all, the zombies wouldn't listen to him.

After several days of nightmares, Xia began to be curious about his identity.

I also learned from my grandfather that he was a zombie.

"Zombies, not vampires?"

Faced with Xia's question, Grandpa didn't know how to explain and could only look at Hu Xiaoyu.

"A zombie is a zombie, and a vampire is a vampire."

"Don't they all suck blood?"

"That's true, but I can withstand bombs, can vampires?"

"But vampires can turn into bats."

"I can fly."

"Vampires do too."

Hu Xiaoyu glanced at the unlucky girl speechlessly, too lazy to argue with her.

Perhaps it was the first time Xia had come to understand the wonders of this world, but she stopped being withdrawn and started asking Hu Xiaoyu all sorts of questions whenever she had a chance.

But every time he gets annoyed by the questioning, he'll keep a straight face and not say a word for days.

Xia also lost her temper. If she didn't want to talk, she wouldn't talk. She would ignore whoever she wanted.

In the orange twilight, the summer heat grew even more oppressive. Xia tugged at her school uniform, touched her pockets, and discovered that she had run out of pocket money.

Looking at the refrigerator in the convenience store, Xia licked her dry lips and glanced at the zombie behind her.

The zombie, hands in his pockets, followed behind her with a nonchalant air, staring blankly at her.

The two figures, now stopped, gazed at each other silently.

In the end, Xia was too embarrassed to ask him to buy her ice cream, so she could only walk home sulking.

I had only taken a couple of steps when a Chocola was handed to me from the left.

Turning my head, I saw a bottle of frozen mineral water.

Without saying thank you, Xia pursed her lips and lowered her head to take the Chocliz and mineral water.

Do you know my mom and dad?

"Yes, I met him through your grandfather."

"What exactly do my dad and mom do?"

Don't ask, I won't tell you even if you do.

"Does it have anything to do with someone like you?"

"You little brat, trying to trick me into talking? Are you going to eat it or not? If not, I'll take it and throw it away."

Xia wrinkled her nose unhappily.

"Fine, I won't say."

Xia tore open the packaging and took a bite of the ice cream. The sweet taste burst forth, and Xia happily squinted her eyes.

From then on, Xia no longer used her pocket money so carefully.

There's no other reason. After Xia runs out of her allowance, if she wants any snacks, she just needs to find that zombie.

If you beg him a little, he'll buy it for you.

However, the two also agreed not to tell their grandfather.

Although the zombies aren't afraid of Grandpa talking, they still get annoyed.

Xia also noticed that it was cool around the zombie.

Unlike air conditioning or fans, it's a coolness that seeps into your heart.

Just standing next to him makes summer no longer hot.

With summer vacation approaching, there aren't many things to do in town; it's either internet cafes or billiards.

But none of the grandfathers would let him go, and he didn't like playing with those boys either.

You guys keep talking about dating, but who would date you guys? You're all less handsome than a zombie!

"I'm so bored, I want to go out and play."

Grandpa was sitting in the yard reading an old book, while the zombie was perched on the osmanthus tree in the yard, its limbs hanging in mid-air, pressing buttons rapidly on a handheld game console.

"If you're bored, go do your homework."

"I finished writing it a long time ago!"

"Then go play chess with your grandfather."

"We can't lower it, we can't lower it enough!"

"Then why are you looking at me like that?"

"Grandpa has trouble walking, can you take me out to play?"

"Go away, I'm busy."

As soon as she finished speaking, Xia jumped up and pulled the handheld game console, which was dangling towards the ground, down to the ground.

"What are you doing?"

"I can't play, and you're not allowed to play either!"

"Hey, you little brat, you dare steal my things? Even your grandpa wouldn't dare steal my things!"

Then, Xia, with red eyes and her buttocks covered, glared at him intently.

It wasn't until three o'clock that the zombie finally couldn't stand Xia's angry gaze anymore.

"I'm sorry, I'll go easier next time. I haven't hit anyone in a long time, so I can't control my strength."

"I hate you!"

"I'll take you out to play."

"I'm not going!"

"Go to the river, catch fish, swim, have a picnic."

Xia blinked, somewhat tempted.

"Don't worry, your grandfather won't say anything."

Grandpa didn't say much, or rather, he could only watch the two of them helplessly, since the zombies wouldn't listen to him.

With the seasonings in hand, Xia, who was about the same height as the zombie, happily followed it.

When we arrived at the riverbank, the town's children had already gone into the river in twos and threes.

Xia took off her shoes and carefully stepped onto the pebbles to get into the river.

She was, after all, a city girl, with a bit of mental baggage, and hesitated to step into the water.

"So what if the clothes get wet? It's sunny, they'll dry in no time."

The zombie thought she was afraid of getting her clothes wet, so it offered a word of advice and then plunged headfirst into the river.

Inspired by the zombie's example, Xia finally mustered the courage to plunge in.

"A skinny bamboo pole!"

The junior high school girl had not yet developed, but because of her tall stature, she looked unusually thin.

The sudden mockery stunned Xia, and her grievances began to accumulate, bringing tears to her eyes once again.

Snapped!

Why did you hit me?!

"If you dare utter another word, I'll beat you all up!"

The kids ran away after watching the zombie crush a pebble.

Several girls, intimidated by the zombie's imposing presence, dared not stay there.

"Don't cry, come help me catch shrimp."

"You idiot! I told you to step in the water on the bank, not in the middle of the river. Where would shrimp come from in the middle?"

Xia clumsily followed the zombie's instructions to tread water, and gradually, a large number of lively shrimp appeared in the bamboo basket.

Out of curiosity, I peeled open a shrimp about the length of two finger joints and put it in my mouth; it was very fresh and sweet.

I wanted to try more, but the zombie wouldn't let me.

They said there were parasites, and I had to take deworming medication when I got back.

A summer breeze brought a touch of coolness as the zombies frantically tossed shrimp into the pot.

Unsurprisingly, it was awful.

I poured mineral water into the bowl, rinsed it, and only then did the saltiness become palatable. I turned to look at the zombie standing awkwardly to the side.

"What are you looking at me for? You should be grateful that a zombie like me is cooking for you!"

"Look again, look again and I'll bite you!"

Xia pouted and continued eating the shrimp.

The stir-frying process had lost its crispness, but Xia still finished it.

On the way back, the child who had been disciplined earlier called over several thugs.

The zombie originally didn't intend to fight, because he really couldn't control his strength.

However, Huang Mao said: "I feel uncomfortable even touching you in bed!"

The zombies attacked, and the fight was quite serious; several bones were broken.

The police arrived, but then Grandpa called them away.

From then on, Xia started playing with the zombies.

Grandpa wasn't worried that the zombies would bite Xia, because the zombies didn't see Xia as food.

As they got to know each other better, the zombie and Xia became close, and Xia would even save up money to buy him ducks.

The zombie complained as he drank, but he hadn't bought the right amount the first time.

"I'm so fat, my cholesterol and fat levels are way off the charts, my mouth is greasy, and it has a strong gamey smell, it's not refreshing at all..."

Xia got angry and dumped all the duck feathers from the winnowing basket onto the zombie.

Grandpa sat at the table with a smile on his face, watching the zombie and Xia sulking.
