Chapter 86 Inside and Outside the Main Castle (Please Subscribe)

Outside the main castle in the upper part of the fortress, God's team members stood tall, their faces filled with undisguised eager anticipation.

Their eyes were fixed on the door through which the young servant entered, anticipating the next moment when the servant would bring them a bag containing seven hundred silver dinars.

Gold was carrying a heavy, coarse cloth bag, the bottom of which was already soaked in blood, turning a dark, blackish-red color.

Inside were thirty-five pirate ears!

"I wonder if Chief Rogge will throw another victory party once we get our money! I really want to eat a whole roasted lamb!"

"Of course! It definitely will!"

"Based on my understanding of the leader, no matter what, several sheep are going to die tonight!"

"I wonder when I'll get paid. I'm already missing the ale from the backstreet pub —"

The team members chatted away, their minds filled with thoughts of the celebration banquet that afternoon. Just thinking about the sizzling, oily roasted whole lamb made their mouths water.

""

They all knew that they often had stewed meat to eat, so why would Chief Rogge be stingy on a day like this after winning a battle?

The new members of Gangde Village, who had just come out of the main fortress, also stood nearby, listening to the old members' chatter, their faces also full of anticipation.

I had already heard the veteran team members vividly describe the taste of roasted whole lamb on the way.

But almost none of them had ever eaten it, or even seen it, so they couldn't imagine what it looked like sizzling with oil, let alone what it tasted like.

..

Just then, the young attendant who had gone in to report finally came out.

His face was expressionless, his cold gaze swept over everyone, and his whole being exuded indifference.

Gold quickly went to greet him, a simple, honest smile plastered on his face: "Sir, how are things? Our bounty—"

"We cannot exchange it for you!" the servant said coldly, refusing outright.

"Why! Didn't we get to exchange for it last time?"

The attendant interrupted Gold, saying coldly, "These are just ears, not complete heads!"

Who knows where you got these? Or maybe you picked up dead people's ears somewhere, trying to swindle the lord's money?!

Gold's smile froze instantly. He could hardly believe his ears and demanded sharply, "What did you say! Are you trying to renege on your debt?"

"The victory we fought so hard against the pirates, you just deny it like that?"

"Is that so?" The servant scoffed, crossing his arms and staring at him.

"Even Lord Sigurd, leading several hundred regular soldiers and militia, was defeated by the pirates!"

"You think you can defeat the pirates with just a few dozen peasants? Who would believe that?"

"I suspect these ears were cut off from the bodies of the murdered villagers by you in collusion with pirates!"

With the accusation of "colluding with pirates" slapped on his face, Gold's face instantly turned bright red.

"Nonsense! We fought desperately against the pirates, and you dare to slander us like this!"

"Brother Gold, don't be impulsive! Don't cause trouble here, it'll only bring trouble to Brother Roger!"

Aino reacted quickly and grabbed the red-eyed God.

Several newcomers from Gangde Village quickly surrounded them, standing in front of the angry team members.

"Whether it's true or not, only you yourselves know the answer!"

Looking at the figures before him, each one gritting their teeth and wishing they could tear him to pieces, the young attendant became even more unrestrained when two fully armed guards stood beside him. The mockery on his lips grew even stronger.

He looked at the angry yet helpless God, his face revealing undisguised disdain.

He knew perfectly well that he was slandering the other party, and since the other party couldn't do anything about it or argue with him, he felt like he was the right and righteous one!

He enjoyed watching these peasants' angry yet powerless expressions; the feeling of controlling others' fate was incredibly intoxicating to him.

"I'm warning you, if you dare to cause trouble here, I'll throw you all in jail!"

"Then your whole family will suffer!" The servant raised his chin high, his tone full of threat.

Gold was trembling with rage, his teeth grinding together. He wasn't really going to make a move; he wasn't the kind of reckless man who disregarded the bigger picture.

The thought that causing trouble would bring utter disaster to the entire team gradually calmed his anger.

Now he could only watch helplessly as the servant turned to walk back to the main castle, and the frustration and anger in his heart almost overwhelmed him.

Just then, Aino stepped forward and called to the servant who was about to turn around.

"etc."

Aino's voice wasn't loud, but it sounded exceptionally clear.

The servant stopped and glanced back at her impatiently: "What are you trying to do now?"

"I need to see Director Terry," Aino said calmly.

"You think you can just see Manager Terry whenever you want?" The servant sneered, sizing her up.

"The lord sent me to find him." Aino's voice remained unchanged. "The lord personally instructed me to come and settle the reward for the information we provided with Supervisor Terry."

She paused, her gaze sharpening as she fixed on the servant, and asked, word by word, "I'm asking you, do you intend to disobey the lord's orders?"

The servant's disdain froze instantly.

He looked into Aino's determined eyes; she didn't seem to be lying.

Moreover, these people did indeed come from the lord's study. He was just a lowly servant who was used to bullying others, but when it came to a critical moment, he would never dare to take the blame for disobeying the lord's orders.

After hesitating for a moment, the attendant gritted his teeth and said, "Follow me!"

Aino glanced back at Gold, gave him a reassuring look, and then followed the servants into the main castle.

As I walked down the dimly lit corridor, I bumped into Supervisor Terry walking towards me.

"What is it?"

Seeing the person approaching him, clearly looking for him, Terry asked impatiently.

"Lord Terry, she said the lord sent her to settle the intelligence bounty with you."

Upon hearing this, Terry glanced at Eno, remembering that Eno had indeed come from the lord's study.

Terry beckoned to the servant outside the lord's study, who quickly trotted over: "Sir, what are your orders?"

Terry remained indifferent and asked directly, "Did the lord send her to me to collect her intelligence bounty?"

"Yes, sir!" the attendant nodded hurriedly.

Seeing that the situation was true, Terry waved his hand, and the servant had no choice but to retreat dejectedly. As he turned to leave, he heard the girl named Aino say, "The lord's reward for the intelligence is one thousand dinars!"

Upon hearing this, the servant paused, but remembering how his supervisor usually bossed him around, he immediately quickened his pace.

As he approached the study door, he turned his back to Terry and the others, facing the closed door, but his ears were perked up as he listened intently to the sounds behind him.

"One thousand dinars!?"

Are you so greedy for money that you're crazy?!

"You think your pathetic intelligence is worth a thousand dinars?"

"This is not my intention. The lord sent me to collect the money from you!" Aino's tone remained calm, yet carried an undeniable firmness.

"The lord said the intelligence we provided about the pirates was extremely important and helped him a great deal!"

"Compared to the dozens of surrounding villages that are under threat from pirates, what is a thousand dinars?"

"Nonsense! How could the lord say such a thing!"

Terry's face turned red with anger, and he snapped, "Take these fifty dinars and get out of here! Or I'll make things difficult for you!"
