My Abyss Survival Diary
Chapter 106 Rescue Operation
Chapter 106 Rescue Operation
One kilometer outside the Friendship Camp, on a small pebble beach at the edge of the flower field.
After the violent blast, the entire second level was plunged into deep darkness. Extinguished spores fell from the sky, like a strange downpour. All the spores were extinguished. Simon groped forward in the pitch black, heading towards the camp.
As time passed, the grayish-yellow light from the explosion on the dome gradually faded away.
The spores rose to the dome, and the light began to shine again, the dome regaining its pale azure hue, mimicking the sky they knew.
Simon placed several glass jars on the ground. Inside the jars, the scorpion wasps crawled on the jar walls, their brown compound eyes flickering in the spore light.
Soon after, familiar figures began to appear around me.
Elder Chalasou, the adventurer of the Empire, and finally Wilson.
"There's no need to look for a passage to the outside world. You all saw it just now, right? There isn't a single passage on the second level that you can actually use at any time." Wilson scanned the faces around him with his one eye. "The passage out of the abyss was blasted out by Karl using a special bomb."
Although Simon had known for a long time that the hole leading to the outside world was blown up, he was still shocked when he actually witnessed the horror of the bomb.
The entire second level, and even the entire abyss, trembled after the violent explosion. The shockwave from the bomb's explosion nearly shook all the spores in the dome to the ground, plunging the entire second level into a ten-minute period of pitch-black darkness.
"You've seen this before, haven't you? After all, you cave raiders often operate on the second level," Simon asked Wilson.
"We used to see each other only once every three or four months, but now it's become much more frequent for some reason." Wilson nodded.
Based on what Klein said yesterday, Karl is sending people to bring more strange things into the camp.
Charasu stepped forward to Simon's side, placing his greyish-white hand on Simon's shoulder.
Do you still have the things I gave you?
Simon pulled the pendant from his collar; it was a small, bluish-gray lock surrounded by fine chains.
He's not a psionicist, so wearing this thing won't have any effect on him.
Chalasu looked at the small pendant, a relieved smile appearing on his weathered old face.
Let's go.
The iron gates of the Friendship Camp were tightly shut, but they slowly opened to welcome their arrival.
There were more iron thorns around the fence than yesterday, and the newly wrapped wires hadn't rusted yet, gleaming silvery-white in the spore light.
The atmosphere in the camp was strange. There was no smoke from the cooking fires, no one was talking, only groans of pain and the clattering of gears turning in the cages of wind-up hounds. A bleak wind seeped in through the gaps in the fence, blowing over each hostage with scars on their body and face.
A person was lying in the center of the camp; judging from his clothing, he was probably a cave raider.
His body was intact, but his head—had been smashed by a thick iron nail, pinning his shattered skull firmly to the ground.
Sofia strode forward angrily, Wilson's hand sliding from her wrist to her elbow, but still silently clenching.
"What on earth is going on?" Her voice became shrill with grief and anger.
The clinking of ornaments echoed as the fanatic stood beside the corpse, his boots sinking into the blood. The red light from the slit in his visor coldly stared at them. "This is our punishment for him," his voice came from behind his visor. "Anyone who attempts to break the rules will be killed without mercy."

Yet another victim.
Of these companions who had fought alongside Sophia, one died after being injected with a drug by Karl, and another died under the iron nails of her steam armor.
The corpse in the center of the camp drew everyone's attention. Chalasu stayed by his people's side, gently comforting his family and people, but his eyes were filled with worry. What if his people were to suffer misfortune once their cooperation was exposed?
In a corner of the camp, Simon approached Klein once again.
So far, Klein is the only hostage he has left in the Friendship camp.
Klein didn't have any other wounds, but he looked very tired.
"How are you?"
Simon extended his palm to him, and Klein reached out and grasped his palm tightly, rising from the ground.
"It's been a long time since I've fought. I don't even know if I'll be able to help you when I get out." He flexed his wrists.
The atmosphere in the camp was too heavy. Simon knew this was an excellent opportunity for him to unite the various factions and liberate the entire camp.
"Let's leave here first."
Simon looked around; Carl was still not in the camp. This was the second day since he left.
As usual, the group paid the fanatic the Slaughtering Bees and released the hostages. The hostages stared at them, their eyes filled with disappointment for those who hadn't been chosen. This camp was more terrifying to them than a prison; they lived in fear every single moment.
The fanatics stood in the center of the camp, watching them leave. The iron gate was closed by another suit of steam armor, the creaking of the hinges even more jarring than when it was open.
The group retreated in different directions, but eventually reunited on a small patch of gravel a few kilometers from the camp.
Fortunately, Simon had told Klein about his alliance with other forces beforehand, which prevented yesterday's blunder from happening again.
While sitting down to rest, Simon blurted out a shocking piece of news: "I killed a fanatic."
Everyone present except Sofia was stunned.
"Brother Simon, you're not kidding, are you?" the Imperial Adventurer stammered.
Charasu reacted even more agitatedly: "You mean steam armor? You really killed a steam armor?"
Simon did not answer directly, but looked at Sophia.
"I testify to you that Simon did indeed kill a fanatic with the nun's hammer yesterday evening."
As someone from a different faction, Sofia's testimony is highly credible.
"Wait! So the nun is on your side too?" The Imperial Adventurer clutched his enormous helmet, feeling overwhelmed by the sheer volume of information.
Simon lowered the harpoon from his shoulder and planted it on the ground, the tip embedded in the gravel.
"Karl will realize our cooperation, and now that another fanatic has gone missing, he definitely won't stand idly by." Simon pointed towards the camp. "Then all the hostages will be in danger."
Elder Chalasu frowned and pondered for a long time.
"You mean—we're going to take down the Friendly Camp?"
Under everyone's watchful eyes, Simon nodded firmly.
"That's right! We'll move in tonight. You all bring your men and meet here this evening, and we'll rescue all the hostages."
