My Abyss Survival Diary
Chapter 105 Shockwave
Chapter 105 Shockwave
"I haven't settled the score with you for what happened last night!" Brienne kept complaining all the way.
The wind in the flower field suddenly stopped eerily, and everything around us instantly became somewhat unfamiliar.
"Quiet!" Simon interrupted Brienne's complaint. "Did you hear that sound?"
His ears caught a strange noise, and his feet detected a tremor, a tremor coming from the ground.
The ground began to tremble, first with a fine, sieve-like tremor, with pebbles bouncing around our feet and tiny flower petals bouncing off the ground.
The muffled explosions came from the east. The first one sounded like a hammer hitting a steel plate, the second like a mountain collapsing, and the third made Simon's teeth ache.
A powerful shockwave pushed in from the east, crashing straight into him like an invisible wall. A patch of flower field was crushed, and petals and pebbles were swept up. Simon bent over, plunging his harpoon into the mud to steady himself.
Several predatory beasts suddenly sprang out from the flower bushes! Their grayish-white skin shone like the belly of a dead fish in the spore light, their eyes were bloodshot, white foam dripped from their mouths, their ears were pressed back against their heads, and their tails were tucked between their legs.
Simon raised his harpoon, cocked his crossbow, and a wild animal darted past him to the left. The harpoon pierced its neck, thick blood spurted out, and its body fell forward, dying painfully in the flower field.
The other prey didn't even glance at him, and ran straight west, disappearing into the depths of the flower field.
The herd sensed danger and began to flee frantically.
A strong wind was blowing in from the east; it was dry and carried the smell of rust and sulfur.
The spores overhead slowly changed color, and large swaths of the luminous spores on the dome began to extinguish, with grayish-white powder falling from the air like a heavy rain of dust.
The air became very dry, so dry that it made my throat itch, and I could taste the metallic flavor with every breath.
Simon stared intently at the eastern horizon, his face filled with astonishment. A grayish-yellow beam of light shot up from below the horizon, illuminating the entire dome like a piece of leather that was about to rot.
"He blew open the abyss!"
The second layer is the rock wall.
Carl stood in front of the blasted hole, the hem of his trench coat flipped back in the heat, and one button at the collar was undone, revealing a section of his pale neck.
The specially made bombs were incredibly powerful; two bombs blasted a large, circular hole in the rock wall, leaving a ring of charred marks from the intense heat.
He gazed at the scene inside the cave entrance.
The area around the cave entrance wasn't rock, but something almost fleshy—dark red, still pulsating flesh, like a dissected abdominal cavity. Those tissues were writhing, contracting, and healing at a speed visible to the naked eye!
The opening shrank at a visible speed, and the granulation tissue at the edge, like countless tiny tongues, filled the gap and transformed into new tissue.
The air was filled with the sweet smell of rust and burnt metal, mixed with a stench like that of a slaughterhouse sewer.
From the blasted hole came the sound of hurried footsteps. Dozens of ragged men pushed carts full of supplies, running in their direction.
The opening behind them kept closing, and piercing screams echoed endlessly. Those who were slow to run were quickly devoured by flesh sprouts, their bodies crushed to death by the sealed hole, becoming part of the abyss.
Carl took a piece of candy out of his pocket, chewed it, and used the tip of his tongue to push the candy between his teeth, slowly crushing it, making a soft crunching sound.
He looked down at his pocket watch, the dial still stained with a few drops of blood. He casually wiped it with his sleeve, closed the watch case, and stuffed it back into his pocket.
"Three minutes, start the timer—"
Behind him stood several suits of armor made of cast iron warriors, their dark green steel plates gleaming with a dark purple sheen in the red light of their flesh walls.
Their eyes, peering through the observation holes, were fixed on the handcarts. Steam was billowing from the ventilation holes of the armor, hissing and hissing sounds mingling with the gurgling of the flesh walls healing.
The opening was getting smaller and smaller. The overturned handcart was too close to the opening, and the edge of the fleshy wall rubbed against the cart. The metal was rolled into the sticky chunks of flesh, making a harsh friction sound, like teeth biting into sheet metal.
The truck bed was quickly swallowed up, the ammunition boxes inside were crushed, and the bullets exploded in the high temperature.
The first team rushed out of the cave, the men's clothes soaked with sweat, their faces pale, and they lay on the ground panting.
The second team also barely made it through, but the last person unfortunately fell down.
He abandoned the cart and stumbled toward the cave entrance, his pace incredibly fast—he ran at a speed he had never seen before in his life, all for the sake of survival!
Unfortunately, it was still too late.
Just as he stretched out his arm, about to run out of the cave, the fleshy walls on both sides quickly closed, trapping his body in the middle. He struggled desperately, and his cries for help were so desperate and desolate.
Gradually, his voice became indistinct, and his movements became so small that they were almost invisible. The moment the opening closed tightly, the flesh walls snapped shut with a wet, muffled sound, like two huge lips forcefully closing. The man's outstretched arm was severed and fell abruptly to the ground.
The skin at the healing site changed from dark red to grayish-white, then to grayish-brown, and finally blended into the surrounding rock wall, leaving no trace. Only the overturned wheelbarrows and bits of flesh scattered on the ground proved that there had once been a hole there.
Karl walked toward the still-standing handcart, his luxurious deerskin boots treading on the gravel, on the pool of blood, on the still-wriggling bits of flesh squeezed out by the walls of the body.
He walked to the car, bent down, and picked up the severed hand.
"Thanks for your hard work."
He casually tossed away the severed hand, looked at the cast-iron warriors behind him, and heard the soft, crisp sound of the candy being crushed between his teeth.
"Move the stuff back." He gestured with his chin toward the group of terrified men. "Get rid of them."
Several suits of armor moved slowly. They walked to the handcart, unloaded the metal boxes one by one, and carried them on their shoulders. The hydraulic rods of the armor creaked under the weight.
The other armored figures headed towards the transporters who had risked their lives to deliver supplies to them.
The hammer fell heavily, producing several muffled thuds, followed by the men's continuous screams of agony.
Carl stood there, looking at the abandoned handcarts. He licked his lips, swallowing the last bit of sweetness, then took another candy from his pocket, peeled off the coating, and put it in his mouth.
The silvery candy coating drifted from his fingers, twirled a few times in the dry wind, and landed in a pool of blood on the ground.
Several steam-powered armored figures were working busily, making a lot of noise. Just then, a fanatic emerged from the flower field, walking quickly. He stopped in front of Karl.
"Your Excellency, one of the fanatics has gone missing." His hoarse voice carried a hint of worry. "Someone is secretly rebelling against you, Your Excellency. He has now mastered the ability to defeat armored warriors, which is extremely dangerous for us."
Upon hearing this news, Karl showed no anger or distress whatsoever; instead, he burst into triumphant laughter.
"It doesn't matter." His voice was still so soft and gentle. "It's a game, after all. Some people have to be eliminated, even armored warriors are no exception. That's what makes a real game. Everyone has to be a player who is constantly on guard."
He paused, then his smile deepened, revealing two rows of white teeth.
"Let them kill, let them do whatever they want, my game is about to enter a new phase!"
