Chapter 106 Unexpected Decision
Lu Ye continued, "Secondly, the enemy doesn't know our target, but they do know someone has entered."
"We're still 20 kilometers from our target; they might not be able to guess what's going on."
"But they will increase their vigilance, especially around Pologi."
Lu Ye's tone was steady: "Third, we can fake the scene, clean up the traces, and delay their discovery."
"If this is a regular long-term observation point, it may not necessarily report every hour."
"As long as they don't happen to be at the designated contact point, we can get more time."
Yuri looked at him: "But?"
Lu Ye continued, "However, the operation time has been compressed, so we must speed up the second half."
"We need to get to hiding spot number one before sunrise."
Artyom said in a low voice, "In other words, kill and run."
Lu Ye: "Yes."
Yuri looked at the farm and finally nodded.
"Prepare for action."
He looked at Artyom: "Notify the others to come over."
"Approach silently. Lu, deal with the three outside first."
"Roman, come with me into the house. Artyom side door."
"Control firepower on the outer perimeter of Ruslan; do not fire unless absolutely necessary."
Ukrainian-controlled area. Farm. 01:45 AM.
When box C hit the open space in the yard, the sound wasn't loud.
The sounds of distant cannon fire and wind masked most of the commotion.
But the on-duty observer, Mihailo, still heard it.
He sat behind the observation window on the second floor, with night vision goggles and a cup of cold coffee beside him.
He initially thought it was just a piece of scrap metal blown off by the wind, until he scanned the yard with his night vision goggles.
There was a black box with a parachute attached in the open space.
Mihailo was stunned. His first reaction was to wake up the team leader.
But he stopped when he reached for the walkie-talkie.
Last week, he made a false report about "Russian military infiltration".
In the end, it turned out to be just two stray dogs crossing the forest belt.
Team leader Oleg berated him for half an hour, and FPV operator Danilo laughed at him for two days.
Mihailo stared at the box for three minutes.
There was no heat source moving, no vehicles, and no human figure.
He gritted his teeth and went to the small room next door first.
Danilo was fiddling with the FPV battery when he heard the door open. He looked up and said, "The dog again?"
Mihailo lowered his voice: "A box fell into the yard."
Danilo frowned: "What box?"
"Like an airdrop crate."
Danilo's expression changed instantly.
Did you tell Oleg?
"not yet."
Danilo stood up and picked up his coat: "Let's go take a look."
Mihailo paused for a moment, then asked, "Not going to report it?"
Danilo sneered: "Do you know how much Oleg has been hiding lately?"
"Fuel, canned goods, batteries—they said they had none of them."
"We don't know how much he's embezzled; let's go and find out what it is."
"What if it's a Russian airdrop that deviated from its flight path? Wouldn't we be able to make a small fortune?"
Mihailo hesitated, "What if it isn't?"
Danilo: "Then report it again."
Just as the two reached the door, the supply officer, Pietro, poked his head out from the direction of the kitchen.
Where are you going?
Danilo glanced at him: "There's something in the yard."
Pietro's eyes flickered: "What is it?"
"box."
Pietro immediately grabbed a flashlight: "I'll go too."
Danilo sneered, "You want a share, don't you?"
Pietro didn't deny it: "You don't want to?"
None of the three of them could wake Oleg.
Team leader Oleg had been on duty for 72 consecutive hours and had only been lying down for less than an hour.
He has a bad temper and is very stingy with supplies, so nobody wants to mess with him right now.
There was also an observer named Ivan resting inside, and he always wore earplugs when he rested.
The farm observation point is staffed with five people.
Team leader Oleg, sergeant, veteran.
Observers Mikhailova and Ivan take turns.
FPV operator Danilo, a technician, has a very bad relationship with Oleg.
The supply officer, Pietro, a local farmer, has been dissatisfied since being conscripted.
The three walked into the yard, and Pietro shone a red flashlight on the box.
"Military use."
Danilo crouched down and touched the bandages: "They are indeed from the Russian army."
Mihailo asked nervously, "Should we report it?"
Danilo glared at him: "Shut up."
Pietro whispered, "Open it and take a look first."
Mihailo swallowed hard. "What if there's a tracking device?"
Danilo: "So we need to be even faster."
Pietro reached for the latch.
Just then, Mihailo suddenly looked up, about to say something.
"Pfft!" His head suddenly tilted to the side, and his body went limp.
Danilo froze, then, "Pfft."
His chest jolted, and he collapsed next to the box.
Pietro's pupils contracted sharply, and he opened his mouth to shout.
Then he fell to the ground, the red flashlight in his hand rolled away, and the light shone on the muddy ground.
None of the three of them had a chance to utter a complete sound.
[Kill 3 enemy soldiers, reward 300 points!]
Behind the embankment, Lu Ye confirmed through his scope that the three men were lying on the ground: "The three outside will take care of this."
Yuri whispered, "Roger that."
The Black Scythe Squad moved.
Yuri, Roman, and Artyom advanced on the farm from two directions.
Ruslan remained on the perimeter, keeping control of the open space between the houses and barns with his gun.
Eugene, carrying the terminal on his back, half-squatted by the ditch, staring at the heat source inside the house.
"There are two heat sources inside the house."
"There is a low-temperature heat source at the back of the silo, which has not moved significantly; it is likely a generator."
Yuri gestured.
Roman approached the main entrance, stopped, and listened for two seconds.
There was a slight snoring sound inside, as well as radio static.
Artyom went around to the side door and checked the gap. He then indicated that the door was unlocked.
Roman held up three fingers.
Three. Two. One.
The main entrance was gently pushed open.
Artyom entered through the side door at the same time; the room was dark.
Yuri went in first, his gun barrel lowered, followed by Roman.
The room's outline was clearly visible through the night vision goggles.
On the table were a half-empty can of food, a shortwave radio, and a hand-drawn area map.
A man was lying on the bed next to the wall.
He was awakened by the noise at the door. As soon as he opened his eyes, his hand reached for the pistol next to his pillow.
Yuri stepped forward, pressing the muzzle of his gun against Oleg's face, and Oleg froze.
Roman whispered, "Don't move."
At that moment, Eugene's voice came through the earpiece: "The heat source in the corner on the second floor has moved."
Yuri looked up.
A slight noise came from the floorboards, waking observer Ivan.
He grabbed his rifle, and as soon as he opened the second-floor door, he saw a dark figure at the top of the stairs and opened his mouth to shout.
"Bang." Artyom fired, the silenced gunshot echoing softly in the room.
Ivan fell down the stairs.
Yuri pressed Oleg down and asked in a low voice, "When will the reporting window open?"
Oleg gritted his teeth and remained silent.
Roman picked up the notebook next to the radio and flipped through a couple of pages.
"Last record: 01:20".
"Next time?"
Eugene came in through the door and glanced at the frequency table and recording format.
"It's not fixed every hour."
"They should be observation points, reporting as needed."
There is a routine briefing at six o'clock in the morning.
Yuri looked at Oleg: "Is he right?"
Oleg remained silent.
Seeing this, Yuri wasted no time.
He looked at Roman and ordered, "Deal with it!"
