Chapter 55 The Stalker

Chapter 55 The Stalker

Gomorrah opened its mouth and bit its beloved angel, as if the angel were a juicy fruit with a thick shell. The white shell was pierced by its sharp teeth, and strands of blood oozed from the demon's mouth.

"The world will become what it is meant to be!" Even with the devil biting her in the mouth, the beloved angel kept shouting.

"I'm talking about your face right now," Bayonetta said. "Let me hear it, let me hear your screams..."

"The glory of the Creator is with me..." the angel cried out. Then, Gomorrah bit down hard, shattering the angel's white shell completely. The demon tilted its head back and chewed on the sweet flesh. After the demon had eaten its fill, Gomorrah was bound by Bayonetta's long hair and returned to the summoning circle. The endless black hair shrank back from the magic circle, and the witch's clothes returned to normal.

At that moment, the full moon was incredibly close to Earth, its pale light lazily spilling onto the broken stone plaza. With his extraordinary eyesight, Salomon could even make out the craters on the moon. A strong wind swept across the horizon, stirring up thin clouds that rushed past the moon, as if trying to veil it with a mist over the moon that was so eager to descend upon Earth.

Under the moonlight, Bayonetta stretched comfortably, enjoying the warmth of the moonlight on her skin. The full moon was the day when a witch's power was at its strongest, which was why she had decided to hunt. She had fulfilled her obligations under the contract, but more work awaited her, and she needed to relax before starting her next mission. As for her travel companions, well… who else could it be?

Bayonetta leaned against the broken streetlight, took out a small rose-shaped candy and popped it into her mouth—a reward for herself after finishing work.

"You've really gone all out," Rodin said, appearing out of nowhere. He walked towards the witch. "That knight must be of some help, right?"

The witch looked at the magenta pistol in her hand. "Not bad. I'll take care of this child for now."

"It's time to open for business," Rodin said, a purple magic circle appearing beneath his feet. "We're waiting for you to come and patronize us."

Bayonetta took the lollipop out of her mouth, shook it, and then put it back in. "I'll go if I'm in a good mood."

She squinted her eyes again, savoring the sweetness.

"I will prepare to bring 'Mysterious Fate' and olive oil." After saying that, Rodin was enveloped in a purple flame and disappeared from the spot.

"Don't follow me anymore, Luca," Salomon said helplessly. Ever since witnessing the consequences of that supernatural battle, wherever Salomon went, the reporter named Luca would quickly follow.

"I have to know the truth," he said. "It's my professional code of conduct... well, more for my personal reasons."

"If you hadn't mentioned the first point, I could have told you something else that would have made your death at the hands of non-humans even faster." Salomon pushed aside the reporter blocking his way. "I think you might not understand what I mean. These are things that ordinary humans shouldn't know. What do you think would be the reaction of humans if they knew that gods and demons really existed in this world?"

"Uh... I don't know." Luca shrugged. "What will happen?"

"I don't know either, but I know what might happen." Salomon dusted himself off and said, "Tithing, witch hunts, honor killings, the rebuilding of the Inquisition—anything is possible, or it isn't, but I think given the level of ignorance of ordinary people, nothing would be surprising."

Surely some will think: "Since I'll go to hell anyway, why not do more?" or "My neighbor is richer than me; he must be a follower of the devil. I'll kill him to prove my faith to God." At that point, the malice among humans will have a temporary outlet, and they will say, "I'm doing this for God!" or "It's the devil's order to me!" Mr. Luca, are you prepared to bear the burden of so many lives?

What Salomon described is indeed quite possible, but it's unlikely to be that exaggerated—at least not at present. With today's advanced science, even if humans could capture angels, they would only attempt to dissect such unidentified creatures. Salomon was merely trying to scare this naive reporter.

But clearly, Luca was intimidated; after that supernatural attack, his mind was still reeling. And standing before him was an "expert," whose authority did carry a degree of credibility.

"Fine, I promise I won't tell anyone. But I need to know..." Luca waved his hands wildly in front of Salomon, saying, "I need to know why my father died. I want to know if ordinary lives are worthless in the eyes of someone like you?"

"Mr. Luca, listen carefully. The Sorcerer Supreme established Kamar-Taj to protect humanity. My teacher was a Celt who protected humanity for over a thousand years and drove all extradimensional beings off Earth—whether angels, demons, or anything more terrifying. Under the Sorcerer Supreme's protection, none could openly set foot on Earth. Now, those angels and demons can only sneak onto Earth, constantly risking being discovered and killed by the Sanctum Sanctorum."

"Is Bayonetta one of yours?"

"No," Salomon said, "she's just a hunter of angels."

"Hunting angels? You mean those things I can't see?" Luca exclaimed. "She really is a witch."

"Yes," Salomon said. "Summoning demons and hunting angels—neither demons nor angels are good. As for me, I'm just here to supervise her and prevent her from summoning overly powerful demons to the Prime Material Plane."

"That demon..."

“Because there are too many angels now, sir. These angels do not belong to God, and their masters have not signed a contract with my teacher. Therefore, Bayonetta needs to hunt down these smugglers,” the sorcerer said. “But that is not the problem you are facing now.”

"What?"

"Your secret filming has been exposed. As far as I know, no girl wants to be secretly filmed. Although Bayonetta doesn't need photo editing, she certainly wouldn't be happy about it."

"I……"

"Oh my gosh~ there's a little stray cat here." Sometime later, Bayonetta stepped into the real world. "Boya, I know this guy. We've met many times."

Upon hearing Bayonetta's voice, Luca's anger flared. But remembering what Salomon had said about Bayonetta's work, he suppressed the rage that threatened to engulf him. "Yes, I've been tracking you ever since you killed my father twenty years ago. 'Fleur de Cirey,' the lingering scent of rosemary—even if I lose your trail, I can find you by that scent!"

"Staking out and taking photos secretly, what a bad kid." Bayonetta didn't seem angry at Luca's accusation. She waved her hand, and Luca's camera was enveloped in purple magical flames. The reporter was burned by the flames and subconsciously let go.

Hmm... this really doesn't count as being angry.

"This is my livelihood!" Luca rushed to the camera on the ground, but it was too late to salvage it.

"Rosemary doesn't smell like Bayonetta's perfume," Salomon said. "That's angelic. And, frankly, your behavior is a bit perverted. I suggest you call the police, Bayonetta."

Luca looked up, his eyes wide. "What did you say?"
