Chapter 53 Beloved Angel
Chapter 53 Beloved Angel
"You're a wizard?!" the man behind Salomon exclaimed again.
"I said, be quiet!"
Although life in the "Purgatory" and the real world cannot come into contact with each other, inanimate objects can still influence each other. No one knows if those angels will throw something to take this person's life.
Therefore, although Salomon was annoyed by this noisy fellow, he still kept him behind him. It was his duty; keeping ordinary people out of things they shouldn't be involved in had always been a principle of Kamar-Taj.
Salomon didn't need to worry too much about the battle. Wearing a close-fitting white nun's habit, she didn't interfere with Bayonetta's activities. She still managed to execute a Texas throw, slamming the angel of affinity wielding a spear onto the altar.
However, the benevolent angels floating in the air, waving horns, posed a challenge for the witch. She could only dodge the energy attacks emanating from the horns, completely unable to retaliate. This was entirely because Bayonetta had specifically removed her pistol for this ambush. Meanwhile, the ordinary people who couldn't see the Infernal Realm could only witness the marble floor of the church suddenly cracking open, but they didn't understand what had happened.
Bayonetta stepped onto the side of the church's supporting pillar, stretched out her long legs, and leaped towards the benevolent angels still floating in the air. Although she dodged the spear's attack, her white nun's habit was torn by the sharp spear, revealing her fair skin beneath.
This woman was wearing nothing but her nun's habit! The sorcerer could only slightly cover his eyes; it wasn't his fault for seeing something he shouldn't have.
"You've ruined my perfectly good clothes like this, you're all so impatient!" Although she had narrowly escaped danger, the witch remained calm. Her black hair began to extend, flowing along her body to form a black, tight-fitting leather outfit. Bayonetta's clothes were not made of hair, of course; her hair merely represented her magic. She had used magic to weave this outfit, including the clock on her chest, which was also a manifestation of Bayonetta's magic.
A crisp, tinkling sound rang out as the witch landed on the brass pipes of the organ. It was then that Salomon realized Rodin's true purpose—he had come to deliver Bayonetta's "knight."
A dark purple magic circle appeared in front of Rodin, within which four magenta pistols unfolded.
"Elfin Knight!" Rodin exclaimed with pride, referring to his masterpiece, "This lance is worthy of the name of a knight."
As four pistols flew towards Bayonetta, the witch caught two with her outstretched hand. Simultaneously, she lifted her leg, and the remaining two pistols automatically latched onto the heels of her high heels, following their trajectory. Bayonetta kissed the gun barrels, celebrating the birth of her new companions. She winked at the angel, "The fun is just beginning!"
Bayonetta leaped into the air, firing several shots while hanging upside down. Deep purple magic replaced the muzzle flashes, each bullet imbued with her magic. This magic was like poison to angels; if even one bullet struck a vital spot, the Affinity angels of the lower three squads would explode into golden specks of light, reverting to their most primal positive energy.
The new weapons are far more powerful than the ordinary firearms Bayonetta used before. Rodin's superb forging technology not only allows these pistols to bear Bayonetta's magic, but also transforms the witch's power into physical bullets. As long as Bayonetta has enough magic, she can fire continuously without worrying about ammunition. The barrage of bullets created by the four guns fired in turn from her hands and feet is something that the angels cannot dodge.
The witch used the church wall as footholds to dodge the angel's ranged attack. She leaped up and kicked the angel's red visor, which shattered instantly. Bayonetta's pistol on her heel also rang out, the muzzle making point-blank contact with the angel, spraying blood in a shower.
Salomon was too lazy to watch any longer. If Bayonetta were to be injured by these lower-ranking angels, she would never be worthy of the title of witch. Moreover, in Salomon's view, Bayonetta's actions this time were less of a hunt and more of a display of skill; she seemed to be trying to tell the angels that using these weak angels to deal with her was far from enough.
"I'm going to send you out now." Salomon dissipated the energy in his hand. "What's your name?"
"Luca!" the man asked, "What exactly are those things?"
"Looks like you don't know how to give up." Salomon pushed Luca toward the stairs. "Pursuing these dangerous things could cost you your life."
"My father has already paid!" Although Luca couldn't withstand Salomon's power and could only stagger forward, his mouth still didn't stop. "Me too, even if danger lurks ahead, even if it costs me my life! And besides, I didn't come up from here!"
Salomon truly didn't know what to say. As the old saying goes, "Good advice is useless to a damned fool," and Salomon was utterly helpless against someone like this. He could only sigh, tighten his grip on Luca's arm, and desperately drag the suicidal man toward the church doors.
"We painstakingly push ordinary people away from this world, and you want to plunge headlong into it. Those things you can't see could kill you at any moment," Salomon said. "I'll only save you this once, Luca. Listen carefully, there won't be a next time. Next time, even if you die in front of me, I won't lift a finger, because you asked for it."
"I must know..."
"Alright, alright, I know what you're thinking." The sorcerer impatiently pried open Luca's fingers, which were tightly gripping the stair railing, and forcefully dragged him down. "Don't force me to erase your memories."
"Washing away memories?"
"Using physical methods. However, I'm not good at controlling the force; it could cause a concussion."
Before Salomon could lead Luca outside the church, a massive golden axe, wielding immense force, cleaved open the stained-glass window on the second floor. The golden blade, trailing billowing dust, embedded itself deeply in the stone corridor. The crisp, rapid sounds of shattering glass and the crashing of glass momentarily drowned out the witch's gunshots, and scattered shards of stained glass rained down from the sky like a storm.
Although he couldn't see the thing, Luca could still feel as if the church had been hit hard by a heavy hammer. Luca, who had just regained his footing, swayed again and almost fell down the stairs.
Before Luca could even stand up straight, Salomon grabbed him and dragged him outside, ignoring Luca's cries of "What is that?" When he finally pulled Luca out of the church, he found a gigantic figure standing beside it.
This creature was entirely white, with a white-glowing mark atop its head. Its face was a marble-carved mask, below which was a hollow, mouth-like opening. A golden ring encircled its neck, from which several twisted, sunburst-shaped golden spikes extended. Its thick hands and feet were covered in golden claws, and each limb was adorned with a golden ring with green stripes. This thing was even taller than the second floor of the church. As it descended, a heavy bell tolled from somewhere, and white feathers, accompanied by golden rays of light, fell from the sky.
This is the Beloved angel. But this angel never brings gospel, but slaughter.
It pulled the giant axe from the church, raised it high, and swung it down again. It was as if a violent explosion had occurred inside the church; the entire building trembled violently, and dust billowed from the stone pavement of the square.
When Salomon saw it, he immediately dragged Luca away, knowing that staying there was tantamount to suicide. Luca, who had previously uttered such bold words, didn't even need Salomon's prompting; ignoring the pain of being dragged, he turned and ran after Salomon.
Lofty words are ideals, actions are reality; these are two different things and never conflict. He didn't want to die without knowing why.
slip away.
