Chapter 16: S.H.I.E.L.D. agents are all professionals! (Seeking investment!)
After Coulson found Salomon's address, he planned to visit him alone, but no matter how kind he was, he was still a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent and a professional.
Faced with a target who could spiral out of control at any moment, he had already notified the action team to stand by. Coulson took another deep breath, filling his lungs with the cold air to increase the oxygen level in his blood and activate his nerves. In this operation, he had to be prepared for the target to lose control, and if necessary, he had to draw his gun and kill the target as quickly as possible, even if it was a child.
“It’s just a small museum, there’s no need to be so serious,” Agent Sitwell said into the headset. “Maybe the target wants to put that ring in the museum, then make up a good story to attract tourists and salvage their abysmal visitor numbers. You know what I saw? This museum has practically zero visitors! Even from a distance, we haven’t seen many people going in or out. Coulson, there are plenty of these private museums in London, some even in penthouses. You might just walk in and see an old lady lounging in an armchair. Are you sure you don’t want to come with me?”
"Sitwell, this is the first time I've known you like to joke around so much. Don't worry, I've been through many missions like this, you know we're all Level 6 clearance," Coulson replied with a smile. He knew his colleague was trying to put him at ease because this target's abilities were dangerous and risked getting out of control.
But Coulson still plans to visit alone. He said, "I know how badly this museum is run, which is why I'm not doing any prior reconnaissance. I'm worried that the target might be emotionally unstable, and a sudden visit from multiple strangers could cause a stress reaction. If it can be resolved peacefully, I don't want to use violence."
"Alright, if you insist," Sitwell gave up trying to persuade her, "but remember, watch out for the old lady; in horror games, old ladies are always the final bosses."
"I'll remember that." With that, Coulson flashed a friendly smile, his innate affability shining through even behind his dark sunglasses. But an agent can't be completely unguarded. He gestured behind him to signal the team to be ready before cautiously pushing open the door to the old museum.
The museum wasn't large, and it was completely empty. There were no display stands, no exhibits, not even a soul in sight, and no signs of life whatsoever. The only suspicious thing was the incredibly smooth brown wooden floor, as if it had just been waxed recently. Coulson was now certain that the building was quite old, and even with the best maintenance, some signs of aging were inevitable. He walked lightly on the floor, the sound of his leather shoes clattering against the floor absorbed by his specially designed heels, filling the entire building with an eerie silence.
Coulson glanced around, then slipped a hand inside his suit jacket and discreetly gripped his pistol.
He was quite certain of his target; Salomon Damonette lived here, because according to the London adoption agency, Salomon had been adopted from here. But the current situation gave him a much worse suspicion—that an organization was deliberately collecting mutant children here, training them to be their money-making tools! They even possessed the technology to locate mutants before they awakened, and this museum might just be a temporary meeting place for them!
This speculation startled Coulson even more, because according to information from the British government, Salomon Damonette had been adopted, but the information on the adoptive parents was blank.
What does this show? It shows that this organization also has considerable influence within the British government!
Hmph! The decadent British Empire reeks of the stench of the old landowning class! Coulson felt it necessary to investigate whether British child rights organizations were collaborating with those shady organizations to persecute more innocent children!
In that instant, Coulson was filled with a sense of mission. He was determined to continue tracking this organization for the long term. For the sake of the mutant children who had been persecuted and those who had not yet been persecuted, he had to continue this case!
He thought of someone.
Saving mutant children might give Melinda a sense of atonement, helping her recover from the events of Bahrain Island. In that brief moment, Coulson considered many things. He slightly relaxed his guard, though he didn't let go of the gun in his hand, he still placed his other hand on his headset.
"Let the action team search; there's no one here."
Of course, Coulson couldn't find Salomon. Salomon was currently strolling the streets of Hong Kong, completely unaware that because of him, some people had already mistaken Kamar-Taj for a den of thieves.
This street near the Hong Kong Temple was one of the most vibrant places he could find, and the food there suited his taste perfectly. So, it was obvious why he didn't go to London or New York: there wasn't much good food there! Where in London or New York could he find bamboo-pressed noodles, shrimp dumplings, siu mai, and other dim sum? Foreigners wouldn't know anything about these things. Of course, the more important reason was that Wu Guiyue, the guardian of the Hong Kong Temple, had heard that Salomon had been attacked by a dark wizard. Although the Sorcerer Supreme had saved Salomon, he was still seriously injured and needed to recover quickly, so he definitely needed some chicken soup to nourish himself.
"Foreigners don't know how to make chicken soup, they all use pressure cookers!" Wu Guiyue became very excited when she mentioned this. "To make soup, to make soup, you definitely need a clay pot! Oh, Auntie isn't talking about you, you don't need to understand what 'foreigners' means."
"..."
Salomon was momentarily at a loss for words, so he could only gently pinch the cheek of Wu Guiyue's daughter, Alice Gulliver, who looked at him with a helpless expression. As a complete shut-in, he knew this was the pinnacle of his life.
Returning to Coulson, the museum he discovered was actually the London shrine of Kamar-Taj.
The reason he couldn't see anyone was simple: when he pushed open the door, he had already stepped into a mirror space. Kamar-Taj's spatial control magic was unparalleled in the universe. When non-Karmar-Taj members opened that door, they would automatically enter a pre-generated mirror space, which could be revoked or created at any time. This was done to prevent unauthorized personnel from entering the London Temple.
This is equivalent to the Temple in London having two doors, and Coulson simply opened the wrong one.
As for why Salomon's status is listed as "adopted" in the child rights organization's information, it's even simpler. A simple enchantment spell can get the child rights organization staff to fill out the form with information, and even if it's fake, they will never notice anything suspicious on the form unless they go back and check it carefully.
Therefore, Coulson's attempt to track down the organization he suspected of collecting mutant children was doomed to failure, because such an organization simply did not exist. Most of those who left the museum were Kamar-Taj apprentices; they left the temple accompanied by full-fledged mages, and returning to Kamar-Taj only required opening a portal.
S.H.I.E.L.D. can't catch Kamar-Taj.
