As he pondered, Connor suddenly sighed. The most pressing matter now was Varga's situation. Although Reyes hadn't said it explicitly, his meaning was quite clear: he wanted Varga to join the Secret Society alone, rather than bringing an old woman with her.

But given Varga's personality, how could she possibly abandon her grandmother who raised her from childhood and join the secret society alone for protection? That would be even harder than killing her.

Connor's feelings toward Varga were very complicated. Although he had forcibly kissed Varga at her home, Connor could tell his conscience that he had never had any improper thoughts toward Varga. That kiss that day was just a momentary impulse because he was too excited about surviving a near-death experience.

Although Connor had no ulterior motives towards Varga, he absolutely did not want to see her in such a dangerous situation, after all, she had saved his life.

After thinking it over for a long time, Connor still couldn't come up with a solution that would satisfy both sides, and he couldn't help but feel saddened.

Three days later, Connor, who was sitting cross-legged on a futon with his eyes closed in meditation, seemed to sense something. He slowly opened his eyes, and with a thought, he casually threw the magic stone in his hand, whose energy had been completely absorbed, into the trash can. Then, he stroked his spatial ring with his right hand, and a piece of notebook paper radiating a dazzling white light appeared in front of Connor.

A few seconds later, the white light on the notebook dissipated, revealing a line of Byzantine script clearly written on the alchemical item Reyes had given to Connor: "Two hours later, in the South District, Matip Community, old Victor is waiting for you there. The Church of the Spirits has also discovered Varga's whereabouts, so do it cleanly and quickly, bring Varga back alone!"

Connor carefully read every word of the message Reyes had sent him on the communication paper several times over. With a solemn expression, he carefully placed the communication paper back into his spatial ring.

"Sigh... what was bound to happen, finally happened!" Connor murmured to himself, his expression complex.

After disguising himself, Connor turned and went out. He needed to rent a carriage first, and then go to the South District to meet up with Victor.

Driving the carriage along the sewage-filled roads of the South District, Connor carefully observed the surrounding slums. According to the chip's directions, the Matip community mentioned in Reyes's message was probably nearby.

He now realized a problem: the message Reyes sent him only said that old Victor was waiting for him there, but it didn't say how he should contact old Victor.

"Young Master Connor, over here!" Just as Connor arrived at the so-called Matip community following the chip's directions, and was pondering how to find old Victor, a very familiar voice transmission sounded in his ear.

Connor looked in the direction of the telepathic message and saw old Victor, dressed in a linen robe, nodding to him. Victor then telepathically said, "The house behind the first tree on the left," before turning and leaving.

Connor quietly placed the carriage in its place and walked to the location that old Victor had indicated.

"Butler Victor, how is the situation now?" Connor asked old Victor eagerly as soon as he entered the dilapidated house.

"Young Master Connor, Varga and her grandmother are currently hiding in a house ahead of us. According to our intelligence, the Bilge Church knows that Varga and her grandmother are hiding here and has already set off. They are expected to arrive here in about half an hour!" Old Victor didn't hide anything from Connor's question, readily telling him everything Connor wanted to know, and even pointing out Varga and her grandmother's hiding place.

Upon hearing that there was only half an hour left, Connor frowned. The remaining time was far too short. After a moment's thought, Connor tentatively asked, "Butler Victor, do you have any plans?"

With a half-smile, old Victor gave Connor a look and said decisively, "Yes! When the cultists arrive, they'll kill that old woman, and then we can intervene to rescue Varga. Then, young master Connor, you can use the pretext of avenging her grandmother to persuade Varga to join our secret society!"

"FUCK!" Connor cursed inwardly. Old Victor's plan was similar to what he had thought of on the way. Although this move was simple, it was indeed very practical. He would appear in front of Varga at her most vulnerable moment, and then... that silly little girl Varga would definitely fall for it!

"Do you know the strength of the people from the Worshiping Cult?" Connor continued calmly, without showing his emotions.

"We expect one senior apprentice and two intermediate apprentices. Young Master Connor, you don't need to worry about that. Old Victor is in charge of the Spirit Worship Cult. You just need to appear before Miss Varga and persuade her to join our secret society!" Old Victor said with a smile.

Connor nodded silently, his mind racing. He felt he should do something; he couldn't just stand by and watch his grandmother Mary, who had once saved his life, die such a tragic death!

"Damn Balero!" Old Victor suddenly produced a communication paper radiating white light. After the light faded, Old Victor scanned the message and suddenly cursed:

"What's wrong, old Victor?" Seeing the old Victor swearing, Connor instantly perked up. He realized this might be his chance!

"Lord Reyes, I received a message. The Secret Order has hired the bounty hunter Balero to retrieve the potion formula from Varga's grandmother. Balero is currently lurking around us!" Old Victor said solemnly, pausing before continuing, "Young Master Connor, you stay here and observe. I'll go find Balero and take him out!"

"Okay, no problem!" Connor, who was just thinking about how to get rid of old Victor, was overjoyed when he heard that old Victor was going to leave on his own initiative, and readily agreed.

Nodding, old Victor didn't waste any more words, turned around and walked out of the room, leaving Connor alone inside.

Having confirmed that old Victor had left, and to find that scoundrel Balero lurking nearby, Connor took a deep breath and, without delay, stealthily rushed towards the room where Varga and her grandmother were hiding.

The place where Varga and her grandmother hid was a typical slum. The so-called door was just a broken wooden board, and the windows had no glass, just a thin layer of paper, and it was drafty from all sides!
