Chapter 8 Magical Items

After exchanging a few more polite words with Professor Reyes, Connor's eyes flickered slightly before he tactfully got to the point.

"Teacher, ever since I was promoted to the rank of a full knight, I've felt that my physical strength is increasing at an extremely slow pace..."

"Oh?" Hearing Connor's question, Professor Reyes looked Connor up and down with some suspicion. After a long while, he stood up and said, "Come to the garden!"

Under the bright sunshine, in the garden of the villa, Reyes and Connor stood facing each other. Reyes had changed out of his elegant white robe and put on a smart knight's outfit.

Reyes took out two unsharpened cross swords and tossed one of them to Connor.

"Come on, Connor, let me see how you perform in actual combat now that you have the strength of a full-fledged Rider!"

Grasping the cross sword steadily in mid-air, Connor gracefully executed a dazzling sword flourish. Without further ado, he said "Excuse me" to Professor Reyes and immediately launched a preemptive attack with the cross sword in hand and nimble steps!

"Whoosh!" Connor launched an attack, making a few feints to confuse his opponent before the unsheathed tip of his cross sword immediately aimed at Reyes' throat.

Reyes maintained his smile, simply raising his cross sword to firmly block Connor's vicious attack.

"Your tricks have improved a bit, but they're still not good enough!" Professor Reyes smiled at Connor and said casually. Without waiting to see if Connor had heard him, he flicked his wrist and used his strength to knock Connor away from his attack.

Connor's heart sank as he was thrown back by a tremendous force. He focused his attention on Reyes, holding his longsword and wary of any possible attack from his teacher.

Without keeping Connor waiting long, Professor Reyes's cross-shaped sword, gleaming in the warm sunlight, swiftly lunged towards Connor's right wrist like a silver snake.

Faced with such an attack, Connor was left with only one option: to abandon the attack, switch to defense, and be gradually devoured by his teacher.

"Chip, find the best way to break Reyes's attack right now!" Connor, unwilling to give up, shouted in his heart:

"Beep! In accordance with the will of the main body, the best course of action in the current situation is: first, to take three steps forward and launch a preemptive attack, trading injury for injury. With the main body's strength, there is approximately a 51% success rate; second, to retreat and block, with a success rate of approximately 39%!"

Upon hearing that the first method had a success rate of over 50%, Connor did not hesitate at all. He calmly followed the chip's advice, not even glancing at the cross sword that was about to strike his right wrist. He immediately took three steps forward and thrust the cross sword into Professor Reyes' heart.

Seeing Connor's decisive attempt to "trade injury for injury," Reyes's eyes showed not a trace of anger, but rather full of admiration. Connor's attack was extremely clever, seizing the perfect moment when his old strength was waning and his new strength had not yet emerged. If he were not a Grand Knight, but a formal knight like Connor, he would probably die on the spot from this attack. Even though he was a Grand Knight, it seemed that the only thing he could do was abandon his own wrist strike aimed at Connor and try to block Connor's attack.

In that case, Reyes might fall into a disadvantageous position in the next three or four moves due to a careless move.

Seeing Connor's cross-shaped sword aimed at his heart, Reyes's faint smile faded, and he became serious. With a low shout, his cross-shaped sword, like a silver snake, drew a beautiful line in mid-air, strangely blocking the tip of Connor's sword.

"Ding!"

The two iron swords collided in mid-air, producing a crisp sound.

Upon hearing the noise, Connor Ferguson crumbled instantly, staggering back several steps before finally managing to regain his footing on the soft soil in the garden.

With a wry smile on his face, Connor bowed slightly and presented the cross sword to Reyes with both hands. He knew that Professor Reyes must have held back his strength at the end of that attack, otherwise he would not be standing here unharmed, but would be coughing up blood and collapsing to the ground.

After accepting the cross-shaped sword offered by Connor, Professor Reyes said calmly, "I must say, your progress in strength has far exceeded my expectations. It's normal that your physical enhancements haven't been as pronounced since becoming a full-fledged knight; there's nothing to worry about!"

Straightening up, Connor feigned hesitation before saying in a low voice, "Teacher, I know that knightly training is a gradual process, but right now I have an urgent need to improve my strength..."

Upon hearing Connor's words, Professor Reyes frowned slightly, and after a long pause, said, "Are you in trouble?"

Without speaking, Connor nodded slightly.

Seeing that Connor had admitted it, Professor Reyes paced thoughtfully in the garden for a moment, then returned to the house. When he came back to the garden, he was carrying a small box.

Reyes gently brushed the dust off the small box and handed it to Connor.

"Open it and take a look!"

Although he didn't know what was in that small box, Connor still followed his teacher's instructions.

Gently opening the box, Connor saw a golden badge with a sun pattern lying quietly inside.

"This is a magical item I acquired when I was young. I call it the Sun Badge. When you carry it with you, it will automatically help you defend yourself when you are attacked. Unfortunately, it seems that there is not much energy left in it. It can only be used four or five times!" Professor Reyes said with a smile, pointing to the badge in the box. In his smile, Connor could vaguely feel a sense of nostalgia.

"A magical item?" Professor Reyes's description of the badge immediately filled Connor with joy.

As a nobleman, he naturally knew what the words "magical artifacts" meant. These were objects with mysterious abilities, and countless legends surrounded them. For example, there was a rumor that an ordinary pregnant woman once used a magical artifact resembling a bow and arrow to kill a great knight. Although some of these rumors were true and some were false, everyone had to admit that magical artifacts did exist in this world. Moreover, the existence of magical artifacts was strong evidence for some to prove that powerful wizards truly existed.
