Chapter 63 Gathering

Chapter 63 Gathering

The white light shone on Connor for about half a minute. Just as Connor's doubts were growing, the white light in the antique mirror suddenly went out. Then, the masked man holding the mirror nodded to the owner of the deep voice.

"Alright! Sir, welcome to the Mönchengladbach Club!" After the masked man with the mirror confirmed his identity, the owner of the deep voice once again extended a welcome to Connor.

"Is it over?" Connor asked, frowning. As the saying goes, "There must be something fishy going on when things are not normal." The Mirror of Truth has such a great reputation that even if it is now a replica, in Connor's mind it should be extraordinary.

But now he didn't sense anything unusual from the white light, which made Connor somewhat uneasy. Judging from the words of the two masked men, it seemed that he had passed the inspection of the replica of the Mirror of Truth, which made Connor feel even more strange.

"Yes, sir, you've passed our inspection! My name is Lemar, and this is my partner, Nacho! We're on duty for today's defense." The deep voice not only gave Connor an affirmative answer but also introduced himself and the other masked man to Connor.

"Greetings, gentlemen. May I join the party now?" Connor nodded to the two of them as a greeting.

"Of course, the passage is right there, sir, you can go in anytime!" Pointing to the stairs on one side, the masked man who called himself Lemar said, "However, if you need it, sir, I'm willing to give a free piece of advice to a newcomer attending a party for the first time!"

"I'd like to hear the details!" Connor said casually, glancing at the stairs Lemar pointed to.

"You need a mask to cover your face. You should know that this is in Rune, within the traditional sphere of influence of the Church of Storms. Safety is the top priority!" Lemar said meaningfully. After speaking, he seemed to conjure a mask from his body as if by magic.

"Was my disguise that successful?" Connor's expression turned somewhat strange as he watched Lemar try to sell him the mask.

"How much is your mask, Lemar?" Connor asked calmly. He didn't believe Lemar would be so kind as to give it to him. Besides, the auxiliary chip had already confirmed that the mask Lemar had was an ordinary mask without any problems. Although, judging from Lemar's reaction, his disguise as a Suso person was quite successful, having the mask was like having double insurance for concealing his identity!

"One shilling!" Lemar held up one finger.

Although he knew that buying the mask outside would cost less than a shilling, a shilling wasn't too expensive, so Connor was too lazy to haggle. He casually took out a one-shilling coin from his pocket and tossed it to Lemar, then took the mask from Lemar's hand and walked towards the stairs.

"Tsk tsk tsk, this newcomer seems quite wealthy, just casually tossing out a shilling like that!" Lemar tugged at the cold relief of Raul III on the shilling coin, marveling at it. Although his face was obscured by a mask, the joy in his voice was clearly palpable.

Standing next to Lemar, Nacho, who had remained silent throughout, looked at his greedy companion, a hint of helplessness flashing in his eyes behind the mask.

"Has the chip analyzed the effect of the white light in the mirror just now?" Connor silently asked himself as he walked steadily up the stairs.

"Beep, auxiliary chip. Based on known knowledge, the white light possesses a certain degree of X-ray vision, enabling it to detect enchanted items!"

"That ancient mirror, which is said to be a replica of the Realm of Truth, what level of enchanted item is it?" After thinking for a moment, Connor asked himself again:

"Beep! The probability that the ancient mirror is a Level 1 enchanted item is as high as 97.6%!" A clear, cold female voice rang in Connor's mind, giving a near-affirmative answer.

"SHIT!" Connor cursed under his breath. He had actually been fooled by the name of that damned replica of the Mirror of Truth! Based on his understanding of enchanted items, even if that ancient mirror was indeed a replica of the Mirror of Truth, as long as it was a level one enchanted item, it would definitely not be of much use. No wonder the chip used the adjective "certain effect" to describe the effect of the white light earlier.

Shaking his head, Connor was both amused and exasperated. He had been wondering how a replica of the Mirror of Truth could be so openly displayed in front of a strange wizard. Now he realized that perhaps this level-one enchanted item could be mass-produced, making it even cheaper!

After walking for about half a minute, Connor finally reached the end of the stairs, where there was a thick, tightly closed door. Looking back at the stairs behind him, a hint of suspicion flashed in Connor's eyes. If he wasn't mistaken, he had just gone directly from the stairs in the first-floor hall of the mansion to his current position on the third floor without going through the second floor.

Putting on the mask, Connor gently knocked on the tightly closed door.

"Newcomer, the door isn't locked, come in!" Connor didn't have to wait long; after knocking for three or four seconds, a gentle voice came from behind the door.

Without making a sound, Connor pushed open the door and saw a living room that was about 100 square meters in size. Several gas lamps provided ample light to the windowless living room, and more than 20 men and women wearing masks were sitting on the chairs and sofas around the room.

In the main seat of the hall sat an old man wearing a mask with a phoenix pattern. He seemed to be the host of the gathering. When Connor entered, the old man nodded slightly and waved for Connor to close the door and sit down.

After closing the door, Connor calmly sat down in an empty seat and began to observe what would happen at this wizarding gathering.

"Hehe, I need some books on Byzantine mysticism. Does anyone have any? Price is negotiable!" Connor had barely sat down when a gaunt man stood up, scanned everyone in the living room, and said:

"Books on Byzantine mysticism?" Connor pondered to himself. He did have a copy of "Chronicles of Byzantium," but he couldn't sell it to this gaunt man. It was given to him by Reyes, who had told him that the knowledge he had gained from him must never be shared with anyone else.

After the gaunt man finished stating his request, no one in the hall responded. Seeing this, the gaunt man chuckled and said, "Any book on Byzantine mysticism will cost at least fifty gold pounds, with no upper limit!"
