Chapter 502 Margaret's Good News and Bad News
"He'll likely ask you to come see him in about a month, so be prepared!"
Looking at the mere twenty words on the letter, Connor, who was leaning back on the sofa in his apartment, smiled faintly. A black flame ignited on his finger, and he burned the letter to ashes before sending it down the drain.
Although the letter was unsigned and unfinished, Connor knew perfectly well that it was a letter from Martina to him, and the "he" mentioned in the letter undoubtedly referred to that old bastard Victor.
Connor wasn't surprised that old Victor wanted to see him. The operation, which had been in preparation for a long time, not only failed to kill Margaret as planned, but also resulted in the loss of two key members, Paredes and Emerson. If Connor were old Victor, he would definitely have summoned the survivors of the operation for questioning as well.
What truly surprised Connor was the length of time Old Victor wanted to see him! A whole month! What did that mean? It meant that Old Victor was currently in a terrible predicament, busy cleaning up his mess. Otherwise, given his personality, he would have summoned Connor for questioning right now, let alone a month.
After reading the letter, Connor left his Ferguson apartment. He had a lot to do today. Although he had Margaret as a contact point, after much consideration, Connor decided to first visit the Rune Black Market, the underground auction house, and the wizard exchange meeting. If he was lucky enough to find a suitable magical beast for testing the medicine, there would be no need to bother Margaret. After all, as the core of this incident, Margaret might also be overwhelmed right now. He should search all the places he could. If he still couldn't find it, then there was nothing else he could do but bother her.
Over the next dozen or so hours, Connor searched every place he knew that might have news of magical beasts. As for what he gained? It wouldn't be said that he came away empty-handed, but he didn't find anything substantial either. However, to Connor's surprise, the news that magical beasts existed in the Regilon Forest was probably true. Many sources, including several very reliable ones, confirmed this news, which made Connor quite interested in the Regilon Forest.
However, Connor might only consider venturing into the Regilon Forest if he also finds nothing at Margaret's place.
Connor, having made no substantial discoveries, was dismayed to find that things had come full circle and he still needed to rely on Margaret, who was in the Church of Storms, to help him get magical beasts.
In the evening, Connor arrived at Empire Department Store and found Leonie. However, to Connor's surprise, after Leonie led him into the inner hall of the lingerie store, she asked him with some astonishment, "I haven't sent you the message that Margaret wants to see you yet, so why are you here?"
"Margaret wants to see me?" Connor's heart sank when he heard Leonie's words. At this time, Margaret wanting to see him was probably not a good thing. Could it be that something had changed again?
"Hmm! It's quite urgent. It's 11 PM tonight at Warehouse Number Seven in Marotta. Didn't you know about this? Then why are you here, Connor?" Seeing that Connor seemed unaware that Margaret wanted to see him, Leonie's surprise deepened.
"I came here because I need her help with something, but it seems she needs to talk to me too. Leonie, I wish you great success in your business!" After learning the time and place of the meeting, Connor gave Leonie a brief explanation and then hurriedly left Imperial Department Store.
At 10:30 p.m., Connor, dressed in black, arrived at the meeting place Leonie had mentioned, Warehouse Number Seven in Marotta. To Connor's great surprise, Margaret was already there waiting for him.
"What's the matter? Why are you in such a hurry?" Connor frowned and stepped forward to ask Margaret. Margaret's unusual behavior gave Connor a bad feeling.
"I have good news and bad news. Connor, which do you want to hear first?" Connor's premonition seemed to be off. Compared to Connor's nervousness, Margaret, although uncharacteristically, was very normal in both words and expression, and even had a hint of joy.
"Bad news!" Seeing Margaret's expression, Connor's tension eased somewhat. After a moment's thought, Connor said to Margaret, "I personally prefer to suffer first and then enjoy the reward."
"I'm leaving Rune and Connor for a while!" Margaret said to Connor, shrugging. Although she was saying bad news, the joy in her eyes was genuine. Clearly, this short departure seemed to be a good thing.
Before Connor could ask why, Margaret told him, "Edel went to great lengths to keep me quiet about this; he recommended that I train at the Heart of Storms for three months!"
Margaret's explanation left Connor somewhat confused. He had never heard of the name "Heart of the Storm" before, but judging from the name, it must be a place related to the Church of Storms. And judging from Margaret's current joy, it must be a place that would be very helpful for cultivation.
"What's the good news?" Connor asked, a smile appearing on his face as he looked at the delighted Margaret. As Margaret's collaborator, Connor was genuinely happy for her to have this opportunity.
"This is for you!" Margaret smiled mysteriously, then took out a beautifully packaged little wooden box from her spatial ring and handed it to Connor.
Looking at the small box and then at the smile on Margaret's face, Connor became quite expectant about what was inside. He took the box from Margaret's delicate hand and opened it in front of her. Inside was a green stone, about the size of a pebble.
Although it looked like a green stone, it was incredibly beautiful, radiating a jade-like luster. Even though Connor, an alchemist, had seen countless treasures, he couldn't take his eyes off this green stone. He stared intently at it, a look of surprise appearing on his face. However, this wasn't because of the stone's beauty, but because Connor had discovered its true identity.
