Chapter 488 Feigning Compliance
Chapter 488 Feigning Compliance
"Emerson, are you alright?" Seeing Emerson's miserable state, Martina glared at Connor with some displeasure, then asked Emerson with concern:
Faced with Martina's reproachful gaze, Connor remained silent, shrugged helplessly, and appeared utterly innocent.
"I'm fine, just a bit exhausted from using up too much magic and mental energy!" Emerson said to Martina with a wry smile, taking out a few potions from his spatial ring and swallowing them. His complexion had improved slightly.
"Emerson, your thing is back to you!" Connor smiled and handed back the dark purple silver needle that he had just taken from Emerson to Emerson with one hand.
Looking at the silver needle in Connor's hand, Martina frowned and asked, "This silver needle was personally crafted by the professor as a reward for Emerson's breakthrough into a high-level wizard apprentice. How did it end up in your hands, Connor?"
Connor did not answer Martina's question, but smiled without saying a word and handed the silver needle to Emerson again.
Emerson glanced at the dark purple silver needle in Connor's hand, then at Connor's smiling face, and took the silver needle, which held great significance for him, from Connor's hand. He then bowed his head and whispered to Connor, "Thank you."
"You're welcome," Connor said with a smile, then glanced at the two of them, hesitated for a moment, and continued, "I've already set up the magic circle. It seems there's nothing more for me to do here, so I'd like to head back to the villa. Would you two like to come back with me?"
"You go back first!" Martina said without any objection when Connor wanted to leave.
"Okay!" Connor was a little surprised to see that no one was going to watch over him, but he still agreed. In the past few days in that dangerous villa, he could tell that Martina and Emerson did not trust him. They would never leave him alone. Otherwise, he would not have thought of contacting Margaret through the magic circle. But now Martina allowed him to return to the villa alone, which was really unusual.
Turning and leaving the textile factory, Connor, sensing something amiss, immediately became more vigilant. He didn't try to contact Margaret or do anything else, but instead obediently returned to the villa built from alchemical bombs. When Connor returned to his simple room, he was completely unaware that in the nearby grove of trees, a hunched figure leaning on a cane appeared. Judging from the travel-worn appearance of the figure, it seemed this hunched figure had been following him for some time…

Connor spent the entire afternoon alone at the villa. Martina and Emerson rushed back in the evening, and as soon as they arrived, they immediately pulled Connor aside to have a meeting with the three of them to discuss the matter.
"Kane, Emerson and I have discussed it and decided to take action tomorrow. What are your thoughts on this?" Martina asked Connor directly, getting straight to the point as soon as they sat down in the room.
"Shall we start tomorrow? The magic circle is already set up, I have no problem with it, but...?" After a quick thought, Connor digested Martina's decision and then looked at Emerson sitting to the side.
"I'm fine, I'll be fine after a night's rest!" Seeing Connor looking at him, Emerson naturally knew what Connor meant. He raised his eyebrows and said nonchalantly. Apart from looking a little pale, he showed no signs of having been disciplined by Connor that morning.
"Then let's do it! I have no objections. The sooner we finish, the better. I've had enough of this awful place!" Connor shrugged nonchalantly, appearing completely confident.
Seeing Connor's agreement, Martina nodded and explained the entire plan to him: "The plan is this: tomorrow morning, our people will lure Margaret and her squad of arbitrators into the Zaka Textile Factory. Once inside, Emerson will be responsible for luring Margaret into the factory building. You will be lying in ambush inside. Once Margaret enters the factory building, you will immediately activate the magic circle, and then the three of us will work together to kill Margaret within the magic circle!"
"Wait a minute, I have a question!" Connor said seriously, and without waiting for Martina's reply, he continued, "Did your intelligence fail you? You didn't tell me that Martina had a squad of Arbitrators with her, did you? If I remember correctly, in Rune, a squad of Arbitrators usually consists of at least five people, and the squad leader is definitely at the level of a high-level wizard apprentice. If we were to deal with Margaret alone, the three of us plus our formation would surely kill her. But if she has a squad of Arbitrators with her, even with my formation, the three of us might not have the upper hand!"
Although his expression was serious, Connor inwardly sneered. Having personally sent Mariano on his way, he naturally understood why Martina and Emerson hadn't included this squad of arbitrators in their operation plan. However, what he needed to do now was act as someone unaware of the ins and outs. He had to point this out, otherwise, if he didn't stand up for something as significant as having an extra squad of arbitrators compared to the initial intelligence, Martina, who already distrusted him, might become suspicious of him.
When Connor raised the question, Martina and Emerson exchanged a glance. Emerson then nodded to Martina, seemingly indicating that she could speak. Martina hesitated for a moment before explaining to Connor, "Our intelligence is correct. From the beginning, Margaret was accompanied by a small team of arbitrators. But Connor, you don't need to worry. First, the leader of that team was killed a few days ago. As for the remaining members, Old Victor will arrange for someone to handle them. The three of us only need to deal with Margaret!"
"If that's the case, then I have no problem!" Connor nodded, having received an explanation, but then he added, "But let me make this clear: if the arbitrator from that squad shows up, our operation will be doomed. Don't blame me for running away!"
