Chapter 485 Connor's Purpose
Chapter 485 Connor's Purpose
Five days later, in a large abandoned factory building of the Zaka Textile Factory in the North District of Rune, under the watchful eyes of Emerson and Martina, Connor carefully buried the last black rhombus-shaped metal block into the ground. As the metal block was buried, the entire factory building instantly emitted a faint energy fluctuation. Sensing the appearance of this energy fluctuation, Martina and Emerson, who were standing to the side, both showed joy on their faces.
Wiping the fine beads of sweat from his forehead, Connor turned to Emerson and said calmly, "To avoid arousing suspicion when the target comes in to search the factory, the location where the metal block is buried needs to be sealed with cement and properly disguised. Emerson, I'll entrust this task to you, since this should be your specialty, right?" When he said the last two words, "specialty," Connor deliberately emphasized them.
Sensing the probing intent in Connor's words, Emerson smiled slightly, showing no displeasure. He shifted his gaze to the open space in the factory and said with a smile, "The disguise is no problem for me. Although I don't understand alchemical arrays, with so many precious alchemical materials used, I'm sure Mr. Kane, the array you've created won't disappoint us, will it?"
"The magic circle is now set up. If Mr. Emerson is interested in trying it out, we can do so now, as a test of its power!" Understanding Emerson's implication, Connor glanced at the eager Emerson with a half-smile, then directly invited him. Although Connor believed Emerson to be both an assassin and a high-level wizard apprentice, he wasn't sure of the assassin's true strength. Since Emerson was interested, Connor naturally didn't mind testing Emerson's abilities!
"Alright!" Emerson, who was already interested in testing the power of the magic circle, readily agreed to Connor's invitation without hesitation. As Emerson and Connor reached an agreement to test the power of the magic circle, Martina, who was standing to the side, couldn't help but frown slightly. She seemed to want to say something but hesitated, as if she wanted to stop Connor and Emerson from making the agreement. However, perhaps because she herself wanted to see what the power of the magic circle was like, she ultimately did not speak.
"please!"
Connor's smile faded, and he pointed to the open space in the factory he was observing, saying that the open space was the area where he had set up the array.
As Connor said "please," Emerson's expression immediately became very serious. He gave Martina a reassuring look, then stepped into the open space where the magic circle was located without looking to the side.
"Mr. Emerson, this magic array is merciless. If you can't hold on, please speak up soon. Don't be reckless, otherwise..." Although he knew that the main ability of the array he had set up was to trap people and conceal them, and its destructive power was not high, Connor still deliberately tricked Emerson. Connor did not say the whole thing, but he believed that Emerson would definitely understand what he meant.
Upon hearing Connor's "well-intentioned reminder," Emerson smiled slightly and said loudly, "Mr. Kane, I've encountered many formations throughout my travels, but none have been able to harm me. Mr. Kane, rest assured, if your formation can harm me, then I will take full responsibility and it has nothing to do with you!"
Without speaking, Connor focused intently and uttered a single, clear Byzantine word: "Rise!" As soon as he finished speaking, thirteen black beams, each over a meter long, shot out from the ground around Emerson. Before anyone could examine them closely, these black beams mysteriously merged and intertwined, forming a black light shield that trapped Emerson within them in the blink of an eye.
"Don't worry, we still have to carry out the mission. I won't hurt him!" Connor turned to Martina and said calmly. After speaking, Connor also stepped into the black light barrier.
Entering the black light barrier, and looking at the pitch-black mist filling the magic circle, Connor couldn't help but let out a strange smile. Testing Emerson's strength was only Connor's first objective. Besides that, Connor had a second objective: to contact Margaret within the magic circle!
During this time, Connor, Emerson, and Martina had been staying at the villa. Emerson and Martina kept a close eye on him, and Connor had not found an opportunity to activate the bracelet and contact Margaret. Moreover, once the magic circle was set up, there would not be much time left before they could take action against Margaret. If he did not contact Margaret soon, it would be too late. So, after refining the last metal block for setting up the magic circle last night, Connor thought it over again and again and finally decided to take the risk and contact Margaret today.
While the idea might sound crazy, given that Emerson and Martina would be by his side, a closer look reveals that the risk is actually quite low. First, Connor personally crafted the magic circle, and he knows its properties and functions intimately. Second, neither Martina nor Emerson has the ability to control the magic circle; only Connor can operate it. Given Connor's abilities, under his control, the magic circle would function as an independent small space. Within this space, Connor is confident he can contact Margaret without alerting either Emerson or Martina.
That's why Connor provoked Emerson at the very beginning. Connor wanted to provoke Emerson into trying out the magic circle so that Connor would have a chance to control it.
"This Emerson is quite interesting..." Connor murmured with interest as he observed Emerson through the magic circle's spiritual energy.
At this moment, Emerson displayed a very strong ability to conceal himself. Instead of trying to break through the magic circle head-on, he unexpectedly chose to hide in the black mist of the magic circle. His concealment was very skillful. He silently lurked in the magic circle and seemed to be completely unaffected by the black mist.
Despite his confidence within the magic circle, Connor's cautious nature meant he didn't let his guard down when checking Emerson. With Connor's powerful mental detection, Emerson's figure was crystal clear to him.
