Chapter 48 Reunion

Chapter 48 Reunion

"Child, you saw the bullet I removed from his wound yesterday, didn't you? Do you know why it was silver instead of the normal black?" Seeing the suspicion in her granddaughter's eyes, Grandma Mary hesitated for a moment, then sighed and slowly began to speak:

Varga shook her head in confusion. As a naive girl, she didn't understand what all of this meant.

"That silver bullet was a magic-piercing bullet. Only the Police Department and the Storm Church in the entire city of Loen possessed such bullets! The person who shot Connor Ferguson last night must have been from the Police Department or the Storm Church!" Grandma Mary calmly analyzed.

Varga gasped and covered her mouth in surprise. She had never thought of this before. She opened her mouth, instinctively wanting to refute what her grandmother had said for Connor, but before she could say anything, she remembered what Connor had said before he fell into a coma last night: to keep it a secret and not to call the police or tell the church.

Although she was naive and inexperienced, it didn't mean she was stupid. She realized that perhaps the truth was really as her grandmother had said.

Grandma Mary tenderly held her granddaughter's delicate hand, deciding that since she'd already mentioned it, she might as well drop another bombshell: "My dear Varga, you probably don't know this yet, but Connor Ferguson is a novice wizard! And since he's a wizard, the fact that he was hit by a purifying bullet representing the Police Department and the Church of Storms—you should understand what that means, Varga, right? Connor Ferguson is an evil dark wizard!"

"Child, you might say that not all dark wizards are bad, but I must tell you, I sensed a deep resentment emanating from Connor Ferguson. Connor has killed more than one person recently, including last night. In fact, normal killings don't usually generate this much resentment. It's very possible that Connor... committed torture!"

"So stay away from Connor Ferguson! He's an evil dark wizard!" Grandma Mary warned her granddaughter solemnly, emphasizing each word.

"No...this can't be real!"

Varga hugged herself in anguish. She was clearly struggling to accept what her grandmother had said, but reason told her that her grandmother would not lie to her.

Connor, who was walking unsteadily and swaying along Rand Street, had no idea that his secrets had been exposed.

"Damn it, why does this hurt so much?"

"You're just pretending, aren't you? If you were a little more thick-skinned, you could avoid this hell."

At this moment, beads of sweat were dripping from Connor's angular face, and his face was deathly pale. Although he was very lucky that the wound on his chest had not reopened, it was still incredibly painful!

To paraphrase a line from a terrible movie Connor watched when he was still on Earth, it's like, "My heart is being slowly tortured!"

Having barely made it to the door of his apartment, Connor smiled with relief. Soon he could lie on his comfortable little bed, do nothing, and quietly be a couch potato.

"Click!"

Connor unlocked the door and walked into the apartment, preparing to collapse onto his sofa, when his expression suddenly changed, and he pulled out his revolver from his lower back.

"Young Master Connor, it's me!" Just as Connor was about to fire his revolver, a familiar, aged voice rang out from the apartment.

"Old Victor?" Connor called out incredulously in a low voice upon hearing the voice.

As Connor spoke, old Victor's hunched figure emerged from the darkness of the apartment.

"Young Master Connor, it's a pleasure to see you!" After giving Connor a deep look, Victor, who always had a stern face, couldn't help but smile.

"Old Victor, the butler, me too!" Connor reacted quickly, having recovered from the shock of old Victor appearing in his apartment.

"Young Master Connor, you're injured?" Old Victor asked, his gaze sweeping over Connor's left chest, his brow furrowed.

With a wry smile, Connor said with some relief, "When I escaped in the chaos that day, an arbitrator from the Church of Storms caught up with me. I couldn't shake him off, so I had no choice but to fight him. I killed him, but I was also seriously injured. I only just recovered and came back here."

"Young Master Connor, do you mean to say that you killed the arbitrator who escaped?" Old Victor's poker-card-like face remained unchanged, but his cloudy eyes held a scrutinizing gaze.

Meeting old Victor's scrutinizing gaze, Connor didn't flinch, and said firmly, word by word, "I not only killed him, but also cremated his body and buried it deep underground!"

"Young Master Connor, you did very well. Every Arbitrator of the Storm Church has a Soul Lamp. As soon as an Arbitrator dies, the Soul Lamp will go out to alert the Church. Therefore, after killing an Arbitrator, it is essential to clean up the scene and eliminate all traces!" Seeing Connor's determined look, Old Victor nodded, praising Connor.

"How's it going, Butler Victor? Has the arbitrator discovered my identity?" Connor hesitated for a moment, then asked Victor nervously. This question concerned his life and fortune, so he couldn't afford to be careless.

"Young Master Connor, you can rest assured about what Victor does. As for the remaining two arbitrators, the Storm Church will have to find them in the embrace of their Storm Goddess!" With a half-smile, old Victor gave Connor a very direct answer that satisfied Connor immensely.

"That's excellent!" Connor nodded in relief. The three arbitrators who appeared that day were probably not there to ambush him, but rather by chance. Otherwise, old Victor wouldn't have been able to face three opponents alone and remain so calm.

"Young Master Connor, this is a gift from the professor!" Just as Connor was in a good mood, Butler Victor handed him a simple black ring.

Somewhat puzzled, Connor took the ring from old Victor and examined it closely. Stylistically, the black ring was typical of the previous Byzantine era, but it was definitely not an antique. The main material of the ring was clearly Persis coulomb steel, which Persis had only developed a hundred years ago. Byzantium was a dynasty from the Third Age about five hundred years ago, so the timelines didn't match up at all.
