Wizard Earl

Chapter 462 Surveillance

Chapter 462 Surveillance

"To kill a qualified wizard, there's only one other qualified wizard..." Connor said meaningfully to Margaret, his eyes narrowed.

"That's why I need Connor to help me find information. If that's the case, I'd rather be punished by the church than risk that!" Understanding Connor's meaning, Margaret sighed and said somewhat helplessly:

Hearing that Margaret seemed to be placing all her hopes on him, Connor felt uneasy and decided to give her a heads-up, lest she be too disappointed if he didn't get any useful information from Varga. After carefully considering his words, Connor said to Margaret, "The Secret Society and the Skull are ultimately two different organizations. I know less about them than you do, Margaret. I will do my best for you, but Margaret, don't have too high hopes."

"Connor, just do your best. Even if you don't find any information in the end, I won't blame you." Margaret said frankly, "By the way, Connor, have you finished researching the replica of that pendant? I don't know why, but ever since I heard you mention that someone can hide from mental detection and secretly spy on others, I've had a bad feeling."

"I've done a few experiments, and the results are quite promising. I estimate the success rate is about 60-70%. Mail me the alchemy materials recorded on this piece of paper. If all goes well, I can deliver the materials to you in one to two weeks!" After saying that, Connor took out a folded piece of paper from his spatial ring and handed it to Margaret.

Margaret glanced at the notebook Connor handed her, then looked up at him with some doubt and asked, "These are all just common alchemical materials, right? Will these really work?"

"Since you only need it to check mental energy fluctuations, I simplified it. I only kept this one function for you; I removed all the other uses of the pendant. So, the information recorded on this piece of paper is basically enough. If these materials weren't all controlled materials, and getting them on the black market wasn't so troublesome, I wouldn't have asked you for them!" Connor shrugged and explained.

Upon hearing Connor's words, Margaret rolled her eyes at him and then turned and walked out of the abandoned factory.

Watching Margaret's disappearing figure, Connor shook his head and then left the factory, returning to his apartment.

Back at his apartment, before Connor could even rest, his mental senses detected a group of pedestrians who appeared to be police officers on Land Street. Judging from the direction they were looking, their target seemed to be his apartment at 16 Land Street.

Upon discovering this, Connor narrowed his eyes. The reason he believed the group to be police officers was twofold: firstly, the surveillance methods they used were standard methods taught at Scotland Yard, the police training base of the Carman Empire; and secondly, Connor recognized these methods because the Ferguson family had also documented them, and Connor had once studied some of their content out of curiosity.

On the other hand, it was also because of Connor's strong mental strength that he gained amazing observation skills. Connor discovered that although these people were disguised as pedestrians, every little detail of their movements showed that they had received professional training.

Although he didn't know the purpose of the police monitoring him, Connor believed that it wasn't because his wizard identity had given him away. Otherwise, firstly, Margaret would have been informed, and secondly, it wouldn't have been ordinary people like these tailing him.

Now that he was certain the other party hadn't discovered his identity, Connor had nothing to worry about. He straightened his clothes, smiled, and walked out of the apartment, heading towards a young man carrying a mailbox on Rand Street.

"Sir, what newspaper would you like to buy?" A hint of surprise flashed across the young man's eyes as he watched his "target" approach, but he seemed to have a good mental fortitude and showed no panic.

"How much for a copy of the Rune Evening Post and a copy of the Carmen's Daily?" Connor asked the disguised policeman with a smile.

"Sir, the Rune Evening Post is five pence, the Carmen Post is six pence, that's eleven pence in total!" The disguised policeman said, taking two newspapers from the mailbox and handing them to Connor.

Connor took the newspaper, then pulled out his wallet, pulled out a one-shilling note, handed it to the policeman, and said with a smile, "You're not allowed to accept tips during operations, so please give me a penny in change!"

"You..." Upon hearing Connor's words, the police officer was struck dumb, his eyes filled with shock.

"The surveillance methods taught by Scotland Yard clearly stipulate that if someone appears too many times while monitoring the same target, the chances of being discovered increase dramatically. If you're interested, I don't mind talking to you about it. I think there might be a misunderstanding between us!" Connor maintained his smile, then took a one-shilling coin from the young man's hand, turned around, and went back to his apartment with his newspaper.

The young policeman, whose disguise had been exposed by Connor, stood there stunned for a second or two after Connor left. Then, coming to his senses, he sheepishly picked up his newspaper box and walked into the alley next door.

Five minutes later, the doorbell rang at the apartment at 16 Land Street. Connor, who was lounging on the sofa, said loudly, "The door's open, come in!"

As Connor finished speaking, a stern-faced, burly middle-aged man and a shy, petite young girl entered Connor's apartment. It must be said that such a combination was visually striking.

Connor, the "owner" of the apartment, stood up from the sofa with a relaxed expression and a smile, walking towards the visiting guests. He extended his right hand and said with a smile, "Hello, I'm Connor Ferguson. May I ask how I address you both?"

Seeing Connor's outstretched right hand, the burly man scrutinized Connor's smiling face, then, seemingly somewhat reluctantly, extended his own right hand and gave Connor a brief, cursory handshake before coldly stating, "My name is John Duncan, Senior Inspector of the Looney City Police Department!"
