Chapter 435 Inspection (1)

"When he saw the book disappear into Connor's ring, a glint of light flashed in the scarred man's eyes, but he quickly concealed it."

"I've given you the things. Can I leave now?" the scarred man said calmly.

"Why are there church wizards at the rendezvous point?" Connor asked coldly, his gaze fixed on the scarred man. As he spoke, the aura of a high-level wizard apprentice emanating from Connor gradually pressed down on the scarred man.

"How would I know? I arrived ten minutes earlier than you, but those two wizards were already in the inner hall before I got there. What, are you doubting me?" To Connor's disappointment, the scarred man showed no nervousness under Connor's imposing aura, answering calmly and unhurriedly:

"You can go now!" Connor said calmly, and then walked out of the alley.

Connor knew very well that although the scarred man wasn't a wizard, he was someone's henchman and definitely not someone to be trifled with. He could certainly take him down in a fight, but there was no guarantee he could do it without making a sound. Even the slightest noise would likely cause Connor trouble.

But once Connor did that, he would naturally be unable to report to the secret society.

If Connor wanted to conduct further research on the item hidden within the "book" without damaging it, he needed to use some testing methods. Therefore, instead of returning to his apartment at 16 Land Street in the East District, he went directly to the safe house here. The testing methods would release strong energy fluctuations during the process. Although Connor had a magic circle to help cover up the energy fluctuations, it was still not as safe as using them in his own home as it was in this safe house.

Connor took out four silver needles and a crystal ball from his spatial ring. He carefully inserted the four silver needles around the "book". After placing the needles, Connor snapped his fingers, and the concealment array of the safe house was immediately activated.

Sensing that the energy fluctuations inside the safe house would no longer be detected by those outside, Connor nodded slightly and began chanting rapidly. His hands moved swiftly, forming incantations that struck the four silver needles. With Connor's movements, the energy fluctuations emanating from the four needles grew stronger and stronger. After a moment, the four needles connected, forming a magnetic field that enveloped the "book."

Connor only finished casting the spell after reaching this point. He took out a recovery potion from his spatial ring and drank it. Connor had consumed a lot of mana, so he had to drink a potion to recover before proceeding to the next step.

Feeling that his magic power had almost recovered, Connor's expression turned solemn. "What? An unknown radiation source is eroding my mental power?" Upon hearing the auxiliary chip's detection, Connor immediately frowned and looked at the image of the stone displayed in the crystal ball with some confusion. The erosion of mental power is undoubtedly a disaster for a wizard, especially for a mental wizard like him who is skilled in mental power.

If nothing unexpected happens, the unknown radiation source mentioned by the auxiliary chip should be this stone. Logically speaking, if the situation described by the auxiliary chip, where his mental power is being eroded, were to occur, he should be suffering from a splitting headache and bleeding from all seven orifices by now, instead of feeling no abnormality at all.

"Please stop your current actions immediately, otherwise the radiation source will cause permanent damage to your mental power in ten seconds. Please stop your current actions immediately..." Just as Connor was deep in thought, the auxiliary chip issued another warning to Connor, and for the first time ever, it kept repeating the warning.

Connor listened intently to every word the auxiliary chip uttered and kept it in mind. He was filled with utter confusion. From the time the auxiliary chip issued the alarm to the time it was deactivated, only a dozen seconds had passed. During this time, he did not feel any mental energy being eroded as the auxiliary chip had described. His mental energy did not show any abnormalities. Everything seemed so normal and under his control!
