Chapter 434 "Professional Actor"

Chapter 434 "Professional Actor"

With a slight smile, Connor didn't cause any trouble and readily handed the wad of banknotes to Kevin.

It must be said that this Pastor Kevin is a very pragmatic person. After taking the money from Connor, he didn't dare to be polite to Connor or smile at him. He coldly said, "You can stay here for a maximum of one hour!" and then turned and left.

Connor wasn't surprised by Pastor Kevin's attitude, but to make his current persona as a middle-aged man more convincing, he feigned anger and clenched his fists. However, seemingly remembering his place, he didn't vent his anger, sighed, and silently sat down in the second seat from the left in the fourth row.

No one noticed that as Connor made a series of expressions, his peripheral vision was subtly observing a blond, bespectacled man of medium build wearing a top hat sitting in the last row of the auditorium.

If Connor wasn't mistaken, this blond-haired, bespectacled man appeared to be someone who had come to worship and pray to the Storm Goddess. However, he was actually the novice wizard apprentice who had used his mental power to test him when he entered the hall earlier. Since Van Helsden left, Connor hadn't sensed the aura of that intermediate wizard apprentice. It seemed that Priest Van Helsden's cultivation level was indeed that of an intermediate wizard apprentice!

The agreed meeting place turned out to have a Storm Church wizard present, something Connor had never anticipated. Although the situation was unexpected, Connor thought it was a fluke, because if this were a trap specifically designed for him, he would have already been captured by the Storm Church wizard.

Even if the church is not taking action now because it wants to play the long game, it shouldn't have placed a junior wizard apprentice here. Isn't that obviously stirring up trouble? No matter how you look at it, the speculation that the inner chapel of the Fatica Church is a trap is untenable.

"Praise be to Goddess, may you bless my wealth to continue to increase." Just as Connor began to ponder, a deep voice came from the row in front of him.

Upon hearing the scarred man initiate the exchange of the code, Connor hesitated for a moment before responding: "May the goddess bless the health of my family!"

After giving the code, Connor felt a little worried. He hoped that the scarred man wouldn't be too foolish and would realize that there were church members in the inner hall, and wouldn't just hand over the item to him directly.

After Connor gave the password, the scarred man sitting in front of Connor remained unchanged, still holding a Storm Bible in his hand and praying softly to the Storm Goddess, seemingly not having heard Connor's password at all.

Seeing the scarred man like this, Connor felt relieved. He thought to himself, "The person next to that lord is indeed quite clever!"

"Supreme Goddess, may your greatness spread to every corner of the world. I will forever sing your praises in the small town of Lornes..."

Hearing the scarred man muttering this passage under his breath, Connor immediately understood what the scarred man meant. He then made a perfunctory prayer before the statue in the inner hall and left the inner hall.

Connor, having left the inner sanctuary, didn't linger in the church for a moment longer. He left the Fatica Cathedral, walked three streets away, and, making sure no one was following him, hailed a horse-drawn carriage and told the driver, "I want to go to Lornes Street!"

Fifteen minutes later, Connor arrived at Lornes Street and casually tossed two one-shilling notes to the coachman. With the coachman's profuse thanks, he entered a rather famous café on the bustling Lornes Street.

After ordering a newspaper and a Black Mountain coffee, Connor sat quietly in a corner of the café, waiting for the scarred man to appear. This was the best spot on Lownes Street; Connor was certain he would see the scarred man whenever he appeared on Lownes Street.

The words the scarred man recited in the inner hall of the Faticalo Church were from Chapter 7, Section 5 of the Storm Bible, the teachings of the Storm Church. This passage is a praise of the Storm Goddess by Facchetti, the second Pope of the Storm Church. The place name Lornes mentioned in the text is a small town near the capital of the Kaman Empire, where Facchetti was born. The reason the scarred man recited this passage was to tell Connor the location for the exchange!

There was a priest in the inner chapel of the Fatica Church, so he and the scarred man naturally couldn't exchange items in front of him. To complete the exchange, they needed to find a safer place.

Just as Connor finished his first cup of Black Mountain coffee and was about to order a second, a figure dressed in a black robe with his top hat pulled low to obscure his face appeared in his field of vision. Although he couldn't see the figure's face, Connor could still tell from his aura that it was the scarred man. Connor immediately called out "Check, please" to the cafe waiter, took out a five-shilling note from his wallet, slapped it on the table, and quickly walked out of the cafe.

As Connor walked out of the coffee shop, the scarred man immediately spotted him. Connor led the way, while the scarred man followed leisurely behind. Five minutes later, Connor finally met up with the scarred man in a deserted alley.

"Where is it?" Having already recognized the scarred man, Connor was too lazy to play games with him anymore and asked directly without any preamble or probing:

"You know me?" The scarred man seemed to sense something, and instead of answering Connor's question, he squinted and asked Connor in return:

"Where is it?" Connor repeated his question, but this time his tone was icy and full of warning, as if he would attack the scarred man if he dared to talk nonsense with him again.

This time, the scarred man didn't waste any more words. He gave Connor a deep look and then took out a book from his pocket, about two or three hundred pages long, with no title on the cover, and handed it to Connor.

Taking the book from Scarface's hand, Connor felt its cold touch with his fingers. As an alchemist, Connor's intuition immediately told him that this book was definitely not simple and contained some mystery. Without showing any abnormality, Connor calmly put the book into his spatial ring.
