Chapter 401 Processing

Chapter 401 Processing

If Connor wasn't mistaken, the alchemy equipment in this alchemy lab alone was worth at least 300,000 magic stones! Note that the unit here is magic stones, not gold pounds! If converted to gold pounds, it would definitely be two or three million gold pounds—enough to wage a medium-sized war!

"This place used to be the master's alchemy laboratory," old Victor sighed, looking around at the alchemy equipment. His aged voice seemed to carry the taste of memories.

"The teacher's alchemy lab?"

Upon hearing the word "Master" from old Victor's words, Connor instantly understood. He had just been wondering what kind of important figure would use this "luxurious" alchemy laboratory, but if it was his teacher Reyes's laboratory, it made perfect sense. Given the Secret Society's power and influence, and Reyes's strength and position second only to the leader within the society, owning such an alchemy laboratory was not unreasonable at all.

"Back then! After the master became a second-level wizard and created that thing, he never came here again!" Old Victor seemed to be lost in his memories of the past, his voice carrying a hint of regret.

"What is that thing? Something that made Reyes never come to such a luxurious alchemy lab again must be extraordinary!" Although he was full of curiosity and wanted old Victor to continue talking about "that thing," Connor did not ask, because he knew that with old Victor's cunning and shrewdness, it would be pointless to ask.

"Wait a minute! There are obvious signs of recent use here!" Looking around, Connor pointed to a material analyzer in the laboratory and said with some doubt. As an alchemist, although he had never used such advanced alchemical equipment in his alchemy career, it did not prevent him from confirming whether the alchemical equipment had been used recently.

Following Connor's gaze, old Victor looked over, stared at the matter analyzer for a moment, then waved his hand dismissively and said, "It must have been Martina who set it up. She also has a key to this place. The master probably doesn't need this place anymore anyway, so it doesn't matter if she tinkers with it!"

"That woman is an alchemist too?" Connor asked in surprise, having heard from old Victor that the traces of use on the matter analyzer were caused by Martina.

"Oh, I don't know if she's an alchemist, but I do know that Martina is quite interested in alchemy. She even pestered the master to teach her. You should know her background, so out of respect for Lord Conte, the master made an exception and taught her a couple of moves. I just don't know how she's doing with it!" Old Victor said casually.

Hearing old Victor's words, Connor's face instantly turned speechless. Reyes had actually taught Martina a few moves, so did that mean he and that woman were fellow disciples? Holy crap, that's ridiculous!

Although Martina was by no means unattractive, and her figure and appearance were second only to Margaret among the women he knew, Connor had no liking for Martina at all. Upon hearing that he and Martina might be fellow students, Connor could hardly describe his feelings.

"The reason I rushed Martina to bring you here is twofold: firstly, to confirm your level of mastery of the alchemical technique of mental manipulation; and secondly, to ask for your help in inscribing siphon runes on some materials using mental manipulation techniques!" After reminiscing about the past, old Victor finally got down to business.

After saying that, Old Victor took out five sealed jade boxes from his spatial ring and placed them on the laboratory table.

"Inscribe siphon runes? Process them?"

Connor frowned and asked old Victor in return. To be honest, he had really thought about what old Victor's purpose was in bringing him here and testing his mental manipulation skills. He had thought of several answers, but he really did not expect that old Victor's purpose was to have him use mental manipulation to process something.

However, while Old Victor's purpose seemed unexpected, it also seemed reasonable. In the process of refining some complicated high-grade enchanted items, the refining process is not completed in one go, but in stages. Apart from the most critical steps, which need to be completed by the main alchemist who is refining the enchanted item, the less technically difficult steps, such as the simple processing of alchemical materials, can be done by ordinary alchemists. There is no need for the main alchemist to do it personally.

However, since he started learning alchemy, Connor has always crafted enchanted items on his own. He has never crafted enchanted items with anyone else, let alone processed any materials for others. But judging from what Old Victor said, it seems that he is going to be an assistant to someone else today.

"Is it for the teacher?" After thinking for a moment, Connor looked up at old Victor and asked.

Under Connor's gaze, old Victor shook his head and said, "You don't need to know about Connor!"

"No! This is very necessary. This is about my pride as an alchemist, Butler Victor, do you understand? It's not that I can't work for you, but you have to prove that your alchemy skills are above mine. If you're not better than me, then why should I work for you?" Connor pointed solemnly at the five jade boxes on the table and said, word by word, with a very serious attitude.

Upon hearing Connor's answer, old Victor fell silent for a moment before finally speaking, "Connor, I don't know. Have you heard of the name Southgate?"

Upon hearing old Victor mention the name Southgate, Connor's expression hardened, and he nodded, saying, "I've seen this name in the 'Reyes Alchemy' textbook my teacher taught me. He seems to be my teacher's classmate, and my teacher highly praised his expertise in monster mutation and alchemy! So, am I processing materials for him this time?"

"That's right! Lord Southgate is a great alchemist, are you satisfied now?" Old Victor looked at Connor with scrutinizing eyes.

"A Grand Alchemist? Then there's no problem. But after I use my mental manipulation to inscribe siphon runes on the materials of these five jade boxes, can I observe Southgate's final crafting of that enchanted item?" After thinking for a moment, Connor asked with some longing. If he could witness the Grand Alchemist's crafting of the enchanted item, it would benefit him immensely.
