Chapter 396 Mental Micro-Operations
However, she didn't realize that she, Connor Ferguson, was a genuine alchemist, and most importantly, she had learned alchemy from Reyes!
Who is Reyes? He's Professor, the second-in-command of the Secret Society. Most of the alchemical techniques the Society uses—including restrictions, magic arrays, and mechanisms—originate from Reyes. And I studied "Reyes Alchemy." Without even using my mental powers, a quick scan of these familiar arrays and mechanisms would reveal their flaws. And this guy thinks he can outmaneuver me? If I didn't want to cause trouble, I could easily have made a move and Martina wouldn't even know how she died!
After advancing for about five minutes, Martina led Connor to the barrier deep in the forest. Although they could cross the barrier in just a few more steps, Martina stopped, seemingly unwilling to cross the line. The barrier looked very ordinary, but Connor, as an alchemist, knew that it was definitely not simple. As a mental wizard, he cast his mental power onto the barrier, but it didn't even cause a ripple.
Moreover, although all that could be seen beyond the barrier was an endless dense forest, Connor knew that this was just a clever illusion, and there was definitely another world behind the barrier!
Martina took out a token from her spatial ring, and with a wave of her hand, the token flew onto the barrier. Just as Connor realized that this token was the key to opening the barrier and that he and Martina could enter, the token only emitted a stream of light into the barrier, while the barrier itself remained completely still.
"The security here is really tight!"
Seeing all this, Connor thought to himself, from the mysterious carriage at the beginning to this barrier that cannot be entered even with a token, this place is so secretive, what kind of secret does it hide?
Just as Connor was deep in thought, his mind stirred and he sensed a very powerful, yet vaguely familiar, spiritual force sweeping over him and Martina from within the barrier. The next second, the barrier that had been blocking Connor and Martina from entering silently formed a portal of light.
Without hesitation, Martina took the lead and stepped into the portal. Connor followed closely behind. After entering the portal, Connor found himself in a manor, where old Victor was looking at him and Martina with a serious expression.
Martina, who had brought Connor from her apartment, nodded to old Victor and then turned and walked towards the red tower in the northeast corner of the manor, leaving Connor and old Victor alone there.
"Young Master Connor, I know you have many questions for me, but before that, tell me about the Soul-Slaying Spear recorded in the Reyes Alchemy passed down to you by the Master. Can you forge it now?" Before the bewildered Connor could ask, old Victor asked with a serious expression:
"The Demonic Soul Spear...?"
Upon hearing the familiar name from old Victor, Connor's mind began to race. The Soul Spear was a top-tier first-order enchanted item recorded in "Reyes Alchemy," possessing extraordinary attack power, and when fully activated, its power was very close to that of a second-order enchanted item.
Although the level is only "Tier 1 Enchanted Item" and the crafting method is not complicated, the difficulty of crafting the Soul Spear is no less than that of crafting a Tier 2 Enchanted Item for Connor. The reason for this is simple: 80% of the Soul Spear crafting method requires the application of a technique called "Mental Micromanagement" created by Reyes.
Reyes originally intended to apply this technique to a Tier 3 enchanted item. The reason he used "Mental Micromanagement" to refine the Tier 1 top-tier enchanted item, the Soul Spear, was entirely because Reyes wanted to accumulate experience in practicing Mental Micromanagement while refining the Soul Spear, so that the alchemy technique of Mental Micromanagement could become more mature and perfect, and be better used to refine that Tier 3 enchanted item.
The alchemical technique of mental manipulation was also recorded by Reyes in the book he taught Connor, *Reyes Alchemy*. The forging of the Soul Spear was, in fact, a symbol of mastering this technique. Could it be that old Victor was playing a trick on him, with ulterior motives beyond the alchemical process itself?
Ostensibly, he was asking if he could forge the Soul Spear, but in reality, he was asking himself how well he had mastered the art of mental manipulation. Judging from Old Victor's attitude, could it be that the reason he was dragged from his apartment was completely different from what he had expected, and that he was to be forged into some kind of alchemical item that required mental manipulation?
Having grasped Old Victor's intentions, Connor pondered for a moment and said to him, "I haven't tried forging the Soul Spear before, but I feel it shouldn't be a problem. I should be able to succeed about once every three or four attempts!"
"Come with me!" It was clear that old Victor was in a great hurry. After getting the answer from Connor, he immediately led Connor to a house in the northwest corner of the manor.
As soon as they entered the house, old Victor pulled a large box from his spatial ring and tossed it to Connor, saying, "This contains enough materials to forge five copies of the Soul Spear. Connor, you can start forging them now!"
Taking the large box and sensing the energy fluctuations of the materials inside, Connor frowned slightly. His tone subtly displeased as he said to old Victor, "I have no problem forging the Soul-Destroying Spear, but I think I should know why I'm here."
"Connor, you're a smart man. You should have already figured out that I'm testing your level of mental manipulation in alchemy. You're right. But until you forge the Soul Spear, I won't tell you what you'll be doing next!" Without any hesitation, old Victor said directly to Connor.
Connor, having confirmed his suspicions from old Victor's words, felt much more at ease. He gave old Victor a deep look, then held up three fingers and said in a deep voice, "Give me three hours!"
"No problem!" Nodding, old Victor tactfully walked out of the house, leaving the entire house to Connor.
Taking a deep breath, Connor opened the large box that old Victor had given him, which contained the raw materials for forging the Soul Spear.
Looking at the raw materials lying quietly in the box, Connor seemed to have an idea, and a self-deprecating smile appeared on his lips.
