Chapter 395 Secrets

"What's this?" Sitting opposite Martina, Connor was naturally not so obedient as to follow Martina's orders. He held the bracelet Martina threw to him and coldly asked in return:

"Old Victor said you're an alchemist, why don't you see for yourself?" In the car, alone with Connor, Martina's gentle smile vanished from her presence at Connor's apartment entrance. She found a bracelet identical to the one she'd given Connor, put it on her pale wrist, and then closed her eyes, saying with a hint of mockery:

Upon hearing Martina's words, Connor focused his gaze on the bracelet, while gently stroking it in his palm.

After a moment's hesitation, Connor put the bracelet on his wrist, and as Connor did so, the carriage they were riding in started moving.

Looking at Martina, who was resting with her eyes closed, Connor frowned slightly but did not ask any more questions. Where were they going? If he was not mistaken, the carriage he was riding in looked no different from an ordinary carriage, but in reality, the entire carriage was a demonized object.

Although Connor recognized the carriage as an enchanted object, he couldn't yet discern its specific function. However, he did discover that the bracelets he and Martina were wearing were alchemical items that matched the carriage. The only function of the carriage and bracelets together was to confuse the wizard's mental power, preventing them from discerning the direction and road of the carriage they were traveling on!

This is why Connor didn't ask Martina and the other person where they were going. The Secret Society could use this method to get him and Martina to go there, clearly indicating that they didn't want to tell him their destination. Moreover, Martina was wearing the same bracelet as him, so it's highly likely that the Secret Society hadn't told her where they were going.

Connor closed his eyes, pretending to rest like Martina, but in reality, his mental energy was secretly circulating, trying to sense the carriage's route. Although he knew that the secret society used this method to prevent him from knowing the carriage's route and location, and that this method must have some merit, Connor, out of fear of the secret society and confident that his mental energy as a mental wizard far surpassed that of wizards of the same level, still couldn't help but want to try it.

After persisting for about ten minutes, Connor shook his head inwardly and stopped. If he wasn't mistaken, the carriage he was in used a material that could shield mental energy. Wizarding apprentices below the level of a formal wizard wouldn't be able to project their mental energy in such a carriage. Moreover, the bracelet he was wearing was no ordinary item. During the past ten minutes, it had noticed Connor using his mental energy and had been trying to interfere with him. If Connor hadn't been a mental wizard, he might not have been able to use his mental energy at all in the carriage!

Although the carriage and bracelet interfered with and blocked Connor's ability to perceive the outside world, it didn't mean he was helpless. Connor felt that if he took out the silver crown pendant to amplify his mental power, it would be very close to the level of a formal wizard. In that case, his mental power might be able to break through the limitations of the carriage and bracelet and perceive the outside world. However, that would cause too much commotion. Not to mention that Martina was sitting opposite him, the coachman outside would definitely notice.

Thinking of the coachman driving the carriage outside the carriage, Connor's heart tightened again. Although he had no evidence, Connor had a feeling that this guy, who was completely hidden under a black robe, looked somewhat like Mr. Issa, the demonized knight who died at the hands of Langley.

"Skull and Bones? Southgate?" The thought of the demonized knight immediately brought those two words to Connor's mind. If he remembered correctly, when he possessed Epstein, Lenglet was supposed to lead the demonized knight in defecting from Skull and Bones and joining the Secret Society! Could it be that the Secret Society's secretive search for him this time was related to Skull and Bones? Had his ambush at Schalke Castle been exposed?

Thinking about this, Connor's mood became even heavier, but there seemed to be no better way out at the moment, so he could only take it one step at a time.

Although he had no way of knowing the route or location of the carriage, Connor could still sense how long it had been traveling. Just when Connor estimated that the carriage had been traveling for about an hour and a quarter of an hour, it stopped moving forward.

"Give me the bracelet!"

As soon as the carriage stopped, Martina immediately opened her eyes and said to Connor:

He casually took the bracelet off his wrist and handed it to Martina Connor before stepping out of the carriage. Standing outside, Connor surveyed his surroundings.

He was surrounded by a magnificent dense forest, and deep within it, Connor's mental energy could sense the presence of a barrier. If nothing unexpected happened, his destination was the location of that barrier. Feeling the sea breeze on his face, a glint flashed in Connor's eyes, but it vanished in an instant.

Ten minutes later, Martina also stepped down from the carriage and whispered a few words in a language that Connor couldn't understand to the coachman, who appeared to be a demonized knight. The coachman nodded, then flicked his whip and drove the carriage away from the jungle.

"You do have some discernment!" Martina said abruptly to Connor after glancing at him.

Although Martina's words were somewhat illogical, Connor immediately understood her meaning. A half-smile appeared on his lips as he said, "My alchemy is a jack-of-all-trades. I'm not an expert in magic circles, mechanisms, or restrictions, but I've learned a little bit about them all!"

Without responding, Martina immediately set off towards the barrier deep within the jungle. Connor was not slow either, keeping close behind Martina by about a step. Wherever Martina stepped, he stepped; and he would never touch a place Martina hadn't stepped on.

Looking at Martina walking ahead of him, Connor's eyes flashed with disdain. This woman was simply the epitome of being big-headed and brainless. She underestimated him. She deliberately walked ten minutes slower, just to make him impatient and go ahead first, so that she could use the traps, restrictions and magic arrays along the way to trick him!
