Chapter 36 Evar Manor

Chapter 36 Evar Manor

Mr. Harvey's birthday party, though called a birthday celebration, was in reality a social gathering. Well-dressed gentlemen were busy expanding their networks, finding business partners, political allies, and potential lovers. The ladies, dressed in glamorous evening gowns, vied for attention, showcasing their captivating beauty.

When the magnificent carriage stopped in front of the "Evar" manor, Connor straightened his formal attire. Although the expensive suit was custom-made according to Connor's waist size, arm span, and other measurements, he still felt a little awkward, perhaps because it was a new suit or because he was not used to formal wear.

Connor took out his wallet and handed the coachman a gold pound note. This was a social occasion, and Connor needed to maintain his aristocratic decorum to ensure a smoother and faster integration into the circle. Therefore, although there were more affordable public carriages available, Connor chose to pay the exorbitant rental fee for a luxury carriage.

"Sir, I'll wait for you here!" The well-trained coachman said in a low voice as he took the money.

Nodding, Connor stepped down from the carriage and walked towards the manor gate.

Eivar Manor is one of the most famous large manors in the suburbs of Loen City, complete with swimming pools, hunting grounds, vineyards, and so on. At this time, with Mr. Havel hosting a birthday party at the manor, it is decorated even more beautifully. From the manor gate built of patterned rock all the way to the main house in the manor, it is decorated with all kinds of flowers.

At this moment, Mr. Harvey Sanchez's heir, his eldest son George Sanchez, was no longer the carefree man who used to joke around with Connor in the Green University classroom. He was now obediently standing with the butler, a smile on his face, politely greeting the guests at the manor gate on behalf of his elderly father.

"Hi! Connor!" George's eyes lit up when he saw Connor arrive as promised, and he greeted him:

Connor placed the birthday gift he had prepared for Mr. Harvey on the gift-receiving table. Connor and George gave each other a light hug.

"I must say, George, you're really getting into the stride of the president of Sanchez Bank! I have high hopes for you!" Connor glanced at George, blinked, and said, feigning seriousness.

"Then I'll have to ask the future Earl of Ferguson to give Sanchez Bank some patronage!" George joked in return. "Connor, you go in first, I'll introduce you to a surprise later, trust me, you'll love it!"

Shrugging, Connor bid farewell to George and entered the venue. He knew that George's surprise was nothing more than a woman, and it should be a beautiful woman, prettier than Rebecca. Otherwise, he wouldn't have used the word "super big" to describe her. After all, in George's eyes, Rebecca was just a great beauty, not quite "super".

The manor's rectangular banquet hall is enormous, roughly the size of half a football field. It can accommodate dozens of waiters in blue vests and hundreds of guests chatting and laughing, yet it doesn't feel crowded at all. The white tile floor, illuminated by seven huge crystal chandeliers, appears both luxurious and dignified.

Lively music filled the banquet hall as the Loen City Symphony Orchestra, invited by Mr. Harvey Sanchez at a high price, performed on one side of the hall. Although this might seem like a pretentious display of elegance, it was undeniably effective, instantly elevating the atmosphere of the entire banquet hall.

Long tables were set up in each of the four corners of the banquet hall, laden with a variety of delicacies, including sirloin beef, escargot gratin with cheese, grilled lamb chops, tomato soup, and various salads and fruits. However, what surprised Connor most were the small jars of black caviar prominently displayed in the center of each table. The caviar grains were plump and round, with a bright, translucent color, clearly indicating that it was the finest sturgeon caviar.

Such high-quality caviar, due to its scarcity and the intricate processing, is so delicate that it can easily spoil if any step goes wrong. Even in its place of origin, Rune, let alone in Bernabeu, the capital of the Kaman Empire, it would cost at least two gold pounds for a small jar. Yet here at Mr. Harvey's banquet, dozens of jars are casually placed for the guests to enjoy!

"George, this kid's family is really rich! They even dare to serve themselves this stuff!" Connor exclaimed. Without any hesitation, he picked up a small can and quietly ate it in the corner. He knew very well that drinking was inevitable in this kind of occasion, so if you were smart enough, you would definitely eat something first to line your stomach and avoid getting drunk and losing control later.

This atmosphere in the banquet hall lasted for about twenty minutes. As the symphony orchestra's music ended, everyone in the banquet hall knew that the main guest had arrived! They all stopped talking and focused their attention on the center of the banquet hall.

At this moment, a middle-aged man with graying temples and a cane appeared. Although he was not tall and used a cane, he stood up straight and did not give anyone the impression of being hunchbacked. Although his face was a little chubby, one could vaguely see that he resembled Connor's good friend George. At this moment, George was standing respectfully one step behind the middle-aged man.

"Mr. Harvey Sanchez, you look to be in excellent spirits! It seems like it'll be a few more years before George takes over!" Connor thought to himself, looking at the middle-aged man's bright eyes.

"Ahem!" Mr. Harvey coughed twice, glanced around, and seeing everyone staring at him, nodded with satisfaction and said loudly, "Good evening, everyone. I'm very happy to have so many good friends take time out of their busy schedules to attend this old man's birthday party. I won't waste any more time and disturb your enjoyment. I hope you all have a wonderful evening in Elva!"

Cheers! To health!!!

"For health!!!" The gentlemen and ladies in the banquet hall raised their glasses and responded in unison.

As Mr. Havel finished his toast, the birthday banquet officially began. The seven enormous crystal chandeliers hanging from the ceiling dimmed slightly, and at the same time, the symphony orchestra played melodious dance music. Gentlemen extended invitations to the ladies they admired, and couples entered the hall to dance classic Byzantine court dances.

Connor originally intended to quietly observe this situation, but it seems he's being watched...
