Chapter 31 Seduction

Upon hearing Connor's words, Keane immediately blushed, seemingly wanting to retort. However, before he could speak, Officer Rhodes, sitting next to him, patted his arm and preemptively asked, "Then, Mr. Connor, how much information did you obtain about Miss Rebecca from the detective?"

"Rebecca's lucky color is red, she likes to wear high heels, her favorite restaurant is the Clover Restaurant in Rune, and every time she goes there to eat, she always has to order the pan-fried foie gras..." Connor went on and on, and it has to be said that the original Connor Ferguson was really a romantic, remembering Rebecca's preferences very clearly.

"Stop! Mr. Connor, is there anything special among these pieces of information?" After listening to Connor talk about Rebecca's preferences for ten minutes straight, and seemingly about to continue, Officer Rodri could no longer contain himself and interrupted Connor.

"Sigh! Actually, it's not that I'm keeping it a secret, it's that I'm keeping it a secret for Rebecca. Although we can never be together, I still intend to keep this secret to myself and never tell anyone for the rest of my life. But now, I have no choice but to tell you two officers." Connor sighed, his expression somewhat gloomy.

Hearing Connor's words, Rodri nodded heavily, pondered for a moment, stood up from the sofa, patted Keane on the shoulder, and said politely to Connor, "I've finished asking. I'm really sorry to have troubled you, Mr. Connor."

"Assisting the police in solving cases is what every citizen of the Empire should do. However, please keep the secret I just told you both confidential for Miss Rebecca!" Connor said in a deep voice.

Officer Rodri didn't say much, just nodded, and then left with the young Officer Keane.

Not far from Connor's apartment, Keane couldn't contain his curiosity any longer and whispered to Rhodes, "The father of Rebecca that Connor Ferguson mentioned..." Before he could finish his question, Officer Rhodes covered his mouth with his hand.

Officer Rhodes shook his head vigorously at Keane before whispering, "Come with me!"

Officers Keane and Rhodes walked to a secluded, deserted park before Rhodes sighed and said, "Sometimes the less you know, the safer you are. To be honest, I regret going to see Connor Ferguson today. Now, Keane, are you sure you want to know who Rebecca's father Connor Ferguson is referring to is?"

Seeing Rodri's tense expression, Keane paused for a moment, but then said firmly, "I chose to become a police officer because I want to uphold justice in the world. If we police officers choose to back down in the face of evil, then who will stand up?"

After sizing up the righteous-minded Keane, Rodri muttered to himself, "Youth is wonderful!" He then took a copy of the Rune Evening Post from outside his police uniform and handed it to Keane.

Somewhat puzzled, Keane took the newspaper from Rodri and read aloud in a low voice, "According to Mr. Fabinho's family, Mr. Fabinho, one of the ten richest men in Loen City, passed away suddenly from a heart attack in the early hours of the 13th..."

Upon reading this passage, Keane's eyes widened instantly, and he asked Rhodesley in disbelief, "Connor Ferguson is saying that Fabinho is Miss Rebecca's father, and that Miss Rebecca is the illegitimate daughter of that wealthy merchant Fabinho?"

Rhodesley nodded and said, "That should be it. Fabinho died suddenly of a heart attack, and her illegitimate daughter, Miss Rebecca, is missing. Keane, what do you think is the connection between these two things?"

"Fight for the inheritance?" Officer Keane blurted out without thinking.

"If what Connor Ferguson told us is true, then the truth is very likely exactly as you said, Keane!" Rhodes said with a sigh.
