Chapter 30 The Police Arrive!

"Begin!" Overjoyed, Connor silently commanded in his mind:

"Ding! Mission established, estimated time: 61 hours and 38 minutes!"

"Three days?" Connor stroked his chin. Although it was a bit long, it was still acceptable.

"After analysis is complete, transfer it to my memory area!" Connor ordered.

"Beep! As you wish!" A cool female voice rang in Connor's mind.

The next morning, after a whole night of meditation and cultivation using the Abyss Secret Technique, Connor slowly opened his eyes. He frowned slightly, his eyes filled with dissatisfaction.

"Thump! Thump! Thump!..."

His mental energy sensed two people walking towards his apartment on the street. After becoming a junior apprentice and experiencing a significant increase in his mental energy, Connor discovered many wonderful uses for it, such as mental detection. However, due to the limitations of his current level, Connor could only detect people walking towards him, but he didn't know who these two people were.

"Mr. Ferguson, are you there?" A deep, resonant baritone voice came from outside the door after a polite knock.

Although he didn't know who had come to see him so early in the morning, the fact that the other person knew his name meant they must have something to discuss. After straightening his clothes, Connor opened the door. "I am Connor Ferguson..."

The two men standing before him were clearly wearing the standard black uniforms of the Kaman Empire's police force, and judging from the star on their shoulders, they weren't ordinary officers, but rather mid-level inspectors!

A bitter feeling welled up inside him, but Connor quickly concealed the unusual look in his eyes. "May I ask who you two officers are...?"

"I am Inspector Rodri from the Rune Police Department, and this is my partner, Trainee Inspector Keane. We have some business to discuss with Mr. Ferguson today!" A middle-aged police officer, around forty years old and slightly balding, said politely as he took out his badge. At the same time, a young police officer in his early twenties standing next to him also showed his badge.

After glancing at their identification, Connor smiled and said, "Please come in, officers. The doorway is not the place to talk."

"Would you like something to drink? I have tequila, vodka...?" Connor asked, gesturing for the two policemen to sit on the sofa.

"Mr. Connor, no need for that. Drinking is not allowed during working hours!" Officer Rhodes replied with a smile.

"That's a shame," Connor shrugged. "I just woke up and haven't had breakfast yet, so would you two officers mind if I ate breakfast while I answer your questions?"

"Mr. Connor, this is your home, please make yourself at home!" Officer Rodri said with a smile.

"Thank you so much!"

Ten minutes later, Connor sat down at the table with a plate of fried eggs, milk, and bread.

"I didn't expect Mr. Connor, as a nobleman, to cook for himself?" Officer Rhodes said with some surprise. Even the young officer Keane, who hadn't spoken since entering, showed a look of astonishment in his eyes.

"Breakfast? I live alone and can't go to the restaurant every meal, so I have to make myself something simple to fill my stomach. I hope you two officers won't find this amusing!" Connor said with a self-deprecating laugh.

"No, no, Mr. Connor, you've done very well. I'm just curious why you don't hire a maid to help you cook. To be honest, Mr. Connor, you're the only nobleman I've ever met who cooks for himself!" After a moment's hesitation, Officer Rodri said frankly.

"As you can see, officer, I'm currently single. Hiring a maid could easily lead to misunderstandings..." Connor explained. However, his explanation clearly failed to convince the two officers. The experienced Officer Rhodes was somewhat more convinced, while the younger Officer Keane's face practically screamed, "I don't believe you!"

With an awkward laugh, Connor continued, "Of course, the most important reason is that I've run into some financial trouble..."

"Mr. Connor, as far as I know, the rent for this apartment you're currently living in is at least 5 gold pounds a month!" Officer Rodri's grey eyes were fixed on Connor's face as he said meaningfully.

With a slight smile, Connor calmly took a sip of milk and said casually, "If you've done your investigation, Officer Rodri, you'll know that when I came to Rune two years ago, I paid four years' rent for this apartment in one lump sum! If that's alright, Officer Rodri, you might as well tell me your purpose now. As a nobleman of the Kaman Empire, I have an obligation to assist the police in their investigation."

"Haha, it's nothing really. It's just that your classmate at Green University, Miss Rebecca, has recently gone missing. Her mother, Ms. Naya, reported her missing to our police department. We understand that you, Mr. Connor, and Miss Rebecca are quite close, so we came to you. We wonder if you have any leads...?" Rodri rubbed his slightly receding hairline and smiled gently.

"Rebecca is missing?" Connor's eyes widened, and he jumped up from the table, exclaiming incredulously in a low voice, "So that's why she hasn't been to school these past few days! She's gone missing! Officer, you absolutely have to find her!"

"Mr. Connor, please calm down. Regarding Miss Rebecca, our police are actively searching for her!" Rodri and Keane exchanged a glance, and Officer Keane, who had remained silent until now, spoke in a deep voice:

After a few seconds of stunned silence, Connor slowly sat back on the bed, pondered for a moment, and said, "Since you two officers have come to me, it seems you already know. Yes, I admit I pursued Rebecca and even hired a detective to investigate her!"

"Mr. Connor, what is the purpose of hiring a detective to investigate Rebecca?" the young police officer Keane pressed.

Looking at Keane as if he were an idiot, Connor said impatiently, "I told you I used to pursue Rebecca. Why would I hire a detective to investigate Rebecca? Of course, it's to find out what Rebecca likes to eat, what kind of clothes she wears, what kind of jewelry she wears... to cater to her tastes, you know?"
