Chapter 281 Absolutely No Malicious Intent!

Chapter 281 Absolutely No Malicious Intent!

While keeping an eye on Emery from the shadows, Connor put on a mask he had crafted himself. As the mask was put on, Connor's original appearance immediately transformed into that of a young man with a hideous scar on his face. Looking at his current appearance, Connor nodded in satisfaction. Although his mask was not as magical as the legendary human skin mask, ordinary people would not notice that he had changed his appearance.

After Connor disguised himself, he didn't wait long, only about five minutes. Connor, who was secretly observing, noticed that Mr. Emery, disguised as a middle-aged man, casually threw two items into his shopping cart and then pushed the cart towards the checkout. Seeing Emery's actions, a hint of doubt instantly appeared in Connor's eyes. He had been monitoring Emery the whole time, and Emery hadn't contacted anyone. Could it be that his guess was wrong, and this guy wasn't meeting with anyone as he had imagined?

Just as Connor hesitated, Emery had already paid and was pushing his shopping cart out of Imperial Department Store, about to disappear from Connor's sight. Seeing this, Connor quickly made up his mind and followed him. He wanted to see what Emery was up to today.

Quietly following Emery, who was disguised as a middle-aged man, as he turned left and right, and noticing the decreasing number of buildings around him, Connor glanced at Emery, who was still walking forward about ten meters ahead. A quick scan of the surroundings sent a chill down his spine; he had somehow managed to follow Emery to the outskirts of the eastern district…

Realizing his current location, Connor hesitated. He wasn't sure if Emery, whom he was following, was really heading to the outskirts of the city, or if she had already discovered him and was intentionally leading him away to ambush and kill him.

Connor followed for a while while still struggling with his decision. When he realized that he was almost at the edge of the city of Rune and there was no one around, and Emery was still walking forward without any intention of stopping, a decision flashed across Connor's face. He made a cautious decision: he would stop following!

However, just as Connor stopped and was about to turn back, his expression suddenly changed. He sensed with his mental power that a short knife flashing with a dark blue light was shooting toward his abdomen at an extremely fast speed!

The dagger was incredibly fast. By the time Connor realized it had appeared, he no longer had time to retrieve the Castia Staff from his spatial ring and create a defensive barrier. Although the situation was dangerous, there was not a trace of panic in Connor's eyes. He reached out and patted his black robe, which immediately emitted a light barrier in an attempt to block the dagger that was attacking him!

"hiss!"

The short sword, shimmering with a ghostly blue light, appeared to be of exceptional quality. The defensive light barrier released by Connor's black magic robe didn't even last a few seconds before being completely destroyed with a single sound. However, the few seconds the barrier bought Connor was more than enough. Connor was now standing at a distance, having taken out his Castilian Staff from his spatial ring, and was watching a centuries-old tree in the distance with a wary expression. As for Emery, whom Connor had been following, he had vanished without a trace.

Under Connor's gaze, a figure wearing a bronze mask emerged from behind the century-old tree. Seeing that his sneak attack had failed, the masked man waved his hand, and the powerful short sword, now a magical artifact, returned to his hand!

Connor stared coldly at the bronze-masked man. Being cautious by nature, he had already guessed that Emery might have noticed his tracking and wanted to ambush him. How could he not have expected the other party to make a ruthless move after knowing that he was going to give up tracking him?

Despite being prepared, the power of the short sword that ambushed him truly startled Connor. He had put considerable effort into the defensive capabilities of his black magic robe, which he was wearing for his own use. As a concealment item, the black magic robe offered decent defense among level one enchanted items, not much worse than ordinary level one defensive enchanted items. But even so, it was utterly inadequate against that short sword. If Connor wasn't mistaken, this short sword was a level two enchanted item, and a peak level two enchanted item at that!

After appearing, the bronze-masked man stood there without saying a word, quietly facing Connor by the big tree. Connor's eyes narrowed as he looked the bronze-masked man over. Judging from his figure, this was probably the first time he had seen this person, but for some reason, he had an extremely familiar intuition about the guy in front of him.

Because he was a psychic wizard, Connor possessed exceptionally high intuition, which also made his instincts remarkably accurate. Although he couldn't recall the reason for this familiar feeling towards the bronze-masked man, the intensity of his intuition suggested that this person concealing his form was someone very close to him!

Realizing this startled Connor. Leaving aside Rune, even in this other world, he could count the number of people he was truly close to on one hand, and Connor didn't believe any of them bore any resemblance to the bronze-masked man before him…

Reason told Connor it was impossible, but his intuition was too strong. After much hesitation, Connor decided to speak first. He forced a smile and, feigning embarrassment, said to the bronze-masked man, "Misunderstanding, misunderstanding! I heard the Rune wizarding community is very prosperous, so I came here from out of town. I just happened to see a fellow Daoist and wanted to inquire about him, which is why I acted this way... Absolutely no ill intentions! Absolutely no ill intentions!"

Although Connor himself didn't believe his own words, he didn't intend to make the bronze-masked man believe him. He only spoke up to talk to the bronze-masked man and see if he could recognize who this guy was from his voice!

However, to Connor's utter surprise, the bronze-masked man, upon hearing his words, did not respond as he expected. Instead, he brandished his formidable short sword, unleashing several eerie blue blade beams at him...
