Chapter 279 Acting Skills
The appearance of these four people gave Connor a new understanding of the Sanchez family's strength. Although the three Grand Knights were also a headache, the one that truly made Connor wary was the unfathomable person. From the first second that the four people were spying on Connor, Connor discovered the location of the three Grand Knights, but he could not find the location of the fourth person. However, Connor clearly felt the look in the fourth person's eyes.
The fact that no trace of these four people was found is largely because this was a banquet to welcome De Sciglio, which gathered countless famous figures and big shots from Rune. There must have been powerful figures secretly protecting them, and Connor dared not unleash his mental power to search. However, this was enough to show that the strength of these four people was definitely not ordinary!
Time ticked by, and the three minutes Mr. Harvey had given Connor to consider quickly dwindled to the final ten seconds. Only then, faced with Mr. Harvey's coercion and enticement, did Connor let out a long sigh, a bitter smile on his face, and look at Mr. Harvey, saying, "Uncle, you've won!"
Upon hearing Connor concede, Mr. Harvey finally managed a smile on his expressionless face. Leaning on his cane with one hand, he patted Connor's shoulder with the other and said, "Very good! You made a wise choice!"
"George wants to confront you at the family meeting and make you exile Olson to the New World, so that he can never return to Rune! After all, if Olson stays in Rune, he will always be a threat to George. Only if he gets out and never comes back to Rune will the threat to George be minimized!" Connor said in a low voice, revealing the lie he had just thought of.
Connor's words made Mr. Harvey's expression turn serious. He pondered for a moment, then calmly asked Connor, "What will he do if I don't give in to his demands?"
"Uncle, as his father, you should know better than I how George will react if things get to that point!" Connor didn't directly address Mr. Harvey's question, but the meaning behind his words was crystal clear.
Having received the reply, Mr. Harvey nodded slightly, pondered for a moment, and then said to Connor, "Go back and tell George that I've agreed to his request. Olson will return to the New World within a month!"
"Understood!" Connor replied respectfully on the surface, but inwardly he sneered. Judging from Mr. Harvey's behavior, his lie had successfully deceived him. Connor knew very well that although his lie seemed very true, if he had told Mr. Harvey so easily from the beginning, given Mr. Harvey's shrewdness, he would have been 90% unlikely to believe it, and even if he did, he would have been very suspicious. However, after his previous evasive remarks and his hesitation in the face of coercion and enticement, everything seemed so reasonable that Mr. Harvey would not have any suspicion.
Having heard what he wanted from Connor, Mr. Harvey patted Connor on the shoulder again before turning and leaving. As he left, the four eyes that had been watching Connor also disappeared.
Connor picked up the termination letter, weighed it in his hand, and a smile appeared on his lips. Consider this his "acting" salary!
Returning to the corner where he and George were, Connor saw George smiling broadly, holding a check. Upon seeing Connor, George's smile widened even more, eager to hug him.
After hugging George, before George could say anything, Connor gave him a look. Although he didn't know what Connor wanted, George followed Connor out of the banquet and into the carriage on his way back, as instructed by Connor's look.
"To 16 Land Street!" Connor ordered the coachman, George, after getting into the carriage. Seeing that his boss, George, didn't object, the coachman skillfully cracked his whip on the horse, starting the carriage.
At this moment, George's face also darkened. He wasn't stupid; Connor's sudden invitation to Connor's apartment clearly meant something had happened! Realizing this, he didn't say anything more, but quietly sat down in the carriage with Connor.
The Imperial Hotel, where the welcome party was held, and Connor's apartment were both in the eastern part of Loen, not far from each other. In addition, George's carriage was fast, so in just five minutes the carriage stopped at 16 Land Street, which was outside Connor's apartment.
After instructing his driver to wait at the door, George and Connor went into his apartment. After closing the door, Connor casually tossed the termination papers to George.
Upon receiving the termination notice and seeing his father's signature and the Sanchez Bank seal on it, George's face instantly turned extremely ugly.
Holding up the termination agreement, George said with a hint of self-deprecation, "That old man really has a big hand; he just throws away tens of thousands of pounds like that!"
"I told your old man that your goal is to exile Olson to the New World, so he can never return to Rune. Your old man asked me to pass on a message: he promised you, Olson will be gone within a month!" Connor stared at George and said, enunciating each word clearly.
"Exiled to the New World? Never to return? Tsk tsk, if I didn't know Olson had a talent for wizardry, I probably would have agreed to the old man's request. But now that he has a talent for wizardry and hates me so much, how can I keep him?" A cold glint flashed in George's eyes.
"Your old man has figured out your plans, and it's going to be hard for you to make money. With this termination agreement from your old man, you don't have to repay your bank loan. Keep the 10,000 gold pound check from Holding. Your old man has some skilled men around him; he'll likely arrange for someone to escort Olson away!" Connor said, pointing to the termination agreement.
George paused for a moment before nodding at Connor's kind offer. He knew Connor was right. Although he was now the first in line to inherit Sanchez Bank and the Sanchez family, and it seemed that his father had handed over a lot of power in the family and the bank to him, George understood that everything he had now was based on his father's tacit approval.
The old man had amassed considerable influence within the family for so many years; no one in the city could possibly challenge him now. If the old man hadn't discovered this, he could have secretly transferred funds to hire someone to kill him. But now that the old man was aware of this, it would be much harder for him to move the money...
