Chapter 25 Strange
Chapter 25 Strange
Although it was late at night, Valverde was not lying in bed fast asleep in the dark bedroom. Instead, he was dressed in a suit and sitting in a chair in the bedroom, with a peaceful smile on his face as he faced the door. He was holding a revolver in his right hand.
At this moment, Connor's gun was aimed at Valverde's head. He would shoot immediately if Valverde made the slightest movement. However, Valverde did not seem to realize that he was in danger. He still had that strange look on his face with a peaceful smile, and just stared at Connor without moving.
Time seemed to stand still at that moment; the room was so quiet that Connor could feel his own heavy breathing.
After carefully examining Valverde's appearance, Connor suddenly had a thought, as if he had realized something. A resolute look flashed across his face, and he cautiously turned on the gas lamp in the room while keeping his gun aimed at Valverde's head.
"clatter!"
With a crisp snap, a tiny flame ignited in the gas lamp, and the orange-red flame shone through the glass lampshade, instantly bringing bright light to the dark bedroom.
"Hoo..." With a heavy breath, Connor slowly lowered the revolver he had been aiming at Valverde's head. As the bright lights came on, Connor could clearly see a gruesome bloody hole in Valverde's temple.
On the wall next to Valverde, splattered bright red blood and grayish-white brain matter hung there without any attempt to conceal them.
No matter how you look at it, Valverde is now undoubtedly a dead man!
Carefully observing the horrific scene, Connor's gaze fell upon the revolver in Valverde's drooping right hand, and a seemingly absurd idea popped into his mind.
"Chip, analyze the manner of death of the person before us!" Connor was unsure if the facts were truly as he had imagined, and he needed the results of the chip's analysis to prove his hypothesis.
"Beep! Analysis complete. The deceased committed suicide by shooting himself. Through ballistic analysis, the gun used by the deceased to commit suicide was the revolver he was holding in his right hand!" Without keeping Connor waiting long, the chip quickly gave Connor the answer he wanted, as always.
Upon hearing the results of the chip analysis, Connor's expression turned strange. The result was exactly what he had guessed: Valverde had indeed committed suicide!
Although he didn't know why Valverde had shot himself that night after extorting money from him during the day, Connor didn't dwell on it. Instead, he immediately began searching the entire detective agency to determine if Valverde had left any written record of his actions.
Half an hour later, after searching the room and finding nothing, Connor glanced deeply at Valverde, who still wore a peaceful smile on his face, in the bedroom, before turning and leaving the Valverde Detective Agency.

"Connor, did you not get enough rest last night? Your study habits are terrible today!" Ms. Denise, the lecturer of Byzantine History at Green University, frowned slightly and asked the student sitting in the front row with concern:
"I'm so sorry, Ms. Denise, I stayed up quite late last night!" Connor, who was dozing off, quickly stood up and explained apologetically.
"Young man, learn to be moderate!" Ms. Denise said meaningfully.
"Hahahaha!" Connor's classmates burst into laughter in the classroom, with Connor's best friend George laughing the loudest.
"Teacher, I..." Connor looked embarrassed and was about to open his mouth to explain, but he didn't know how to say it.
"Alright, alright, young man, it's your own body. Borrow some notes from another student for this class, but don't do this again tomorrow! Sit down!" Ms. Denise was very forgiving and forgave Connor, waving her hand to indicate that Connor could sit down.
Sitting back down, Connor shook his head almost imperceptibly. Ms. Denise was right; he hadn't slept well last night. But it wasn't just yesterday; for the past three days since returning from the Valverde Detective Agency, Connor hadn't slept well. He had been thinking about one question: why did Valverde commit suicide?
He had just extorted money from himself during the day, so there was absolutely no reason for him to commit suicide that night. Moreover, his suicide was so bizarre that Connor could still recall the peaceful smile on Valverde's aged face.
From a human perspective, Connor doesn't believe that such a greedy, cunning, and despicable detective would end his life by suicide.
If Valverde committed suicide, then from a logical reasoning perspective, it simply doesn't make sense!
However, if Valverde was murdered and the killer staged it as suicide, then everything could be explained. Although his auxiliary chip confirmed that Valverde committed suicide, the peaceful smile on Valverde's face made Connor, who was already a junior wizard apprentice, think of another possibility!
That is extraordinary power! The power of a wizard!
If this is truly the truth, then everything makes sense!
"Oh, by the way, Connor, your tutor, Professor Reyes, wants you to go to his office after class. He seems to have something to tell you," Ms. Denise reminded Connor as the bell rang.
"Thank you!" Although he didn't know what Professor Reyes wanted to see him about, Connor still smiled politely and nodded to Ms. Denise in thanks.
On his way to Reyes's villa, Connor hesitated whether to take this opportunity to tell Reyes about his other worry—the green light—and seek his help.
In the past few days, he tried to use his mental power to remove the green spots on his arm, but he failed every time. This made Connor realize the reality that he was not capable of removing the green spots on his own.
As time goes on, the likelihood of the Bilge Church finding him through the green dot marker will increase, and the most practical way for him to stop this from happening is to seek the help of his mentor, Reyes.
Reaching the villa's entrance, Connor gently knocked on the door. After much hesitation, he made up his mind: there's no time like the present, today is the day!
The villa door slowly opened, but the person who appeared after opening the door was not Connor's familiar mentor, Ferguson, but an elderly man dressed as a somewhat hunched butler.
