Wizard Earl

Chapter 24 Once you start, you won't stop!

Chapter 24 If you're going to do something, go all the way!

"That's right! Ten thousand gold pounds plus a manor. I originally only wanted a manor. The ten thousand gold pounds is what I just decided to add. Young Master Ferguson, you will pay the price for your rudeness!" Valverde said hatefully, his cloudy eyes filled with resentment.

"Tsk tsk tsk, Valverde, you call me Young Master Ferguson, so you should know that my father is an earl, and I, Connor Ferguson, am the future Earl of the Kaman Empire!"

"I admit that what you have is leverage over me, but do you think that can kill me? If it can't kill me, Valverde, do you think you'll survive?"

"Make me pay for my rudeness? Detective Valverde, do you think you deserve it?" Connor scoffed and sat back down on the sofa, his face full of disdain for Valverde.

Connor's assertive performance and arrogant attitude immediately put Valverde in a difficult position. He came here to extort money from Connor—a huge sum that would allow him to enjoy his retirement! He wasn't there to fight Connor to the death!

After a moment's hesitation, Valverde said in a stern voice with a straight face, "Young Master Ferguson, since you have made your choice, I have no choice but to tell the church and the police department about Vidal and Rebecca. I hope that when that time comes, Young Master Ferguson, you won't regret your arrogance today!"

Seeing that Valverde still dared to threaten him, Connor said calmly, "Goodbye! Just a friendly reminder, after you go to the police station, also visit the cemetery to prepare for your funeral, so you don't end up lying in the wilderness, your old bones lying there to be eaten by wild dogs and vultures!"

Upon hearing Connor's blatant death threat, Valverde's face darkened. Without hesitation, he turned and walked toward the door.

Seeing Valverde storm off in a huff, Connor maintained his disdainful smile, but in his mind he was silently counting, "Three, two, one..."

Just as he finished counting to "one," Valverde, who had reached the apartment door, turned around, took a deep breath, and slowly said, "Young Master Ferguson, you win! Name your price! You're right, you are the future Earl of the Empire. The evidence I have now is not enough to put you to death, but you should also understand that if what I have is exposed, it will be a stain that you can never wash away, and it will definitely affect your future!"

"One hundred gold pounds!" Connor arrogantly held up one finger.

"What? That's too low! I absolutely cannot accept it! At least five thousand gold pounds!" Seeing Connor's fierce bargaining, Valverde immediately shouted angrily:

"Five hundred gold pounds, no more than that!" Connor said firmly.

"Is the stain on the future Earl of the Kaman Empire worth only five hundred gold pounds? At least four thousand!" Valverde retorted sarcastically.

Connor sat quietly on the sofa, his eyes half-closed. Valverde had left ten minutes earlier. After some haggling, they had finally reached an agreement on 1,500 gold pounds as hush money! This price was nearly twenty times lower than Valverde's initial asking price of 10,000 gold pounds plus a manor!

Although the hush money had been reduced so drastically, Connor had no intention of honoring the agreement he had just reached with Valverde. The reason was simple: Connor didn't have 1,500 gold pounds. He had already spent all the money he had saved, and now he only had seven or eight pounds left to cover his expenses for the month. Even if Connor had 1,500 gold pounds in his pocket, he wasn't going to give it to Valverde!

Whether on Earth or in this world, Connor hates being threatened more than anything else in his life. Besides, who knows whether Valverde will keep his mouth shut as he said after receiving the 1,500 gold pounds, or will continue to blackmail him after the money runs out!

Therefore, the best way to deal with this matter is to solve it once and for all, and kill Valverde so that he becomes a dead man. Only then will Connor truly believe that no one will know about his connection with Vidal and Rebecca!

Connor dared to be so arrogant and domineering in the face of Valverde's blackmail because he had calculated that Valverde was after money and did not have the courage to confront him head-on!

All the haggling with Valverde and the final agreement on a hush money payment of 1,500 gold pounds were just tricks Connor used to keep Valverde in check and prevent him from becoming suspicious. In fact, when Connor saw Valverde through the peephole, he had already made up his mind to keep Valverde from ever speaking out and to keep his secret forever!

Time passed slowly, and soon it was late at night. Standing by the apartment window, gazing at the enchanting night outside, Connor murmured, "A dark and stormy night, a time for murder and arson..."

Although a hush money agreement was reached, Connor lied to Valverde, saying that he did not have 1,500 gold pounds in cash and that he needed three days to raise the money. Valverde agreed to the request, but he could never have imagined that Connor would come to take his life that very night!

He changed his usual black trench coat into a neat short-sleeved outfit. Although on the surface Valverde was just an old man who knew a few knightly techniques and whose strength was not even worthy of being called a prospective knight, Connor was still very cautious. He not only tucked his katana and revolver into his waistband, but also hid the enchanted item, the Sun Badge, in his pocket.

Perhaps the goddess of storms was also protecting Connor, for Connor ran through the night without seeing almost a single passerby, and arrived very easily at the walls of Valverde's detective agency.

After scanning his surroundings to make sure no one was watching him, Connor adjusted his hat, hung the sun badge on his clothes, and then pulled a black scarf from his pocket to cover his face, leaving only his eyes showing. With his preparations complete, Connor did not hesitate and jumped up and vaulted over the wall.

Having already visited twice, Connor was familiar with the structure of the detective agency, so he headed straight for Valverde's bedroom.

Because Valverde's bedroom had no windows, Connor could only enter through the door.

Connor opened the door gently, trying his best to make no sound during the process.

However, when the door opened, the bedroom scene that appeared in Connor's line of sight sent chills down his spine, made him break out in a cold sweat, and made him instinctively raise the revolver in his hand.
