Chapter 16 Fierce Battle!

Chapter 16 Fierce Battle!

He silently jumped over the wall, but the castle doors were locked, so Connor had to sneak in through a window.

Contrary to Connor's expectations, the interior of the castle was not as dilapidated as the exterior appeared. Although the decorations in the corridors and halls were somewhat old, the exquisite patterns on them clearly showed the castle's former glory.

Connor tried his best to control the sound of his every step, carefully searching every room in the castle. The revolver in his hand was fully loaded with bullets and the safety was on. As long as he pulled the trigger, he could fire the "sinful" bullet!

Excluding the basement, the castle has three floors. Aside from the third floor, which is an attic, the first and second floors each have seven or eight rooms. Connor's search was quick, and he soon found the last room on the first floor.

As he pushed open the door and saw the scene inside, Connor's eyes narrowed sharply.

There's someone in this room! But it's not Rebecca, the one Connor's looking for; it's a dead man with his neck snapped!

The deceased was an old man who looked to be about fifty or sixty years old. Judging from his clothes, he should be the old servant left in the castle by the wealthy merchant Fabinho to take care of it!

Swallowing hard, Connor walked over to the body and began to examine it. The body was still warm, and if it weren't for the lack of breathing and heartbeat, and the fact that its neck wasn't broken, it would be no different from a living person.

"Chip! Search for clues on the corpse in front of us!" Connor gave the command to the chip in his mind.

"Ding! Task established!"

"Clue one: This body has been dead for two hours!"

"Clue two: the body was found dead with its neck broken!"

"Clue three: the body was killed with a single blow!"

In an instant, the clear, cold female voice belonging to the chip resounded in Connor's heart and mind.

"This old servant was just killed? And killed with a single blow? It seems the killer must be a seasoned veteran?" Connor pondered to himself. For some reason, Connor suddenly had a bad feeling, as if something or someone he hadn't considered was beyond his plans…

Feeling an increasing unease in his heart, Connor gritted his teeth, a ruthless glint flashing across his face, and took a step towards the second floor of the castle!

At this point, he was already on the verge of disaster and had no choice but to act! Even if the road ahead was fraught with peril, Connor had no choice but to fight his way out and fight for that last glimmer of hope!

The first room in the castle was empty, and the second room was empty too. However, just as Connor was about to push open the door to the third room, he stopped in his tracks.

Taking a deep breath, Connor's intuition told him that his prey was just behind the door!

Slowly pushing open the door, before Connor could even see everything in the room clearly, he heard a deep incantation. At the same time, three dark green liquids, constantly bubbling with white foam, shot rapidly toward Connor's throat, heart, and brow!

Faced with this bizarre attack that was completely beyond the realm of physics, Connor Ferguson didn't even have time to react. He could only watch helplessly as the three globs of dark green liquid shot towards his body, unable to do anything about it!

However, just as the dark green liquid was only one centimeter away from Connor's body, the sun badge hanging in front of Connor suddenly burst out with a golden light shield, firmly blocking the dark green liquid outside the shield!

"Sizzle!" "Sizzle!"

As he watched the dark green liquid continuously corrode the light shield, releasing large amounts of white smoke and a pungent odor, Connor couldn't help but break out in a cold sweat. He couldn't imagine what a tragedy it would be if this dark green corrosive liquid splashed onto him without the protective layer of the Sun Badge!

At this moment, there was another gentleman in the room who was just as shocked as Connor. Looking at the incredible scene before him, he murmured in disbelief, "Enchanted items?" After he finished speaking, a greedy look flashed in his narrow, triangular eyes.

"Bang! Bang! Bang!"

Connor reacted quickly, and in front of him stood a thin man with triangular eyes who looked almost exactly like the man Valverde had sketched for him. He drew his gun and fired three shots in quick succession.

The appearance of this man instantly plunged Connor's heart into despair. Without a doubt, this man was Vidal, a wanted criminal from the Kaman Empire who had murdered his father, brothers, and other relatives, and also the lover of Rebecca, as Valverde had mentioned! Connor's worst fears had come true: Rebecca had come here to meet Vidal!

Two of the three bullets missed, but one still hit Vidal's arm, and bright red blood instantly flowed from the wound.

Seeing this, Connor was overjoyed and was about to fire the remaining three bullets from his revolver at Vidal, sending him to his death. However, before he could pull the trigger, he heard Vidal's chanting again, and then a large, illusory gray hand struck Connor's arm as he held the gun. The heavy blow caused Connor to lose his grip on the revolver, and it fell to the floor.

"Clang!"

Before Connor could pick up the pistol again, the revolver that had fallen to the floor was once again thrown far away by the conjured gray hand.

"Hehehehe, Connor Ferguson, I have to admit, I really underestimated you. I never expected that not only did you not die from the curse, but you actually found this place. It's truly astonishing!" Vidal said with a sinister smile, looking at Connor before him.

"Oh, really? It's an honor to amaze you, a wanted criminal of the Empire. But I have something even more amazing prepared for you, and I hope Mr. Vidal will like it!" Connor replied with a smile while glancing around at everything out of the corner of his eye.

The room he was in was probably the bedroom in the castle, complete with a bed, bookshelves, desk, and other furniture. Connor noticed that besides himself and Vidal, Rebecca was also in the room. However, the beautiful Miss Rebecca was lying motionless on the bed as if she were asleep. In addition, Connor noticed that although there was no water in the two water glasses on the desk, there were damp marks, indicating that someone had used them to drink water not long ago!

"By the way, what does Vidal think of the well water in this castle? Does it suit Mr. Vidal's taste?" Walking to the desk, Connor raised his water glass and said sarcastically.

Hearing Connor's taunts, Vidal's face showed anger, and his fierce-looking triangular eyes narrowed.
