Chapter 135 Three Possibilities!
Chapter 135 Three Possibilities!
When the explosion happened last night, Connor already suspected Reyes might be behind it, and the information Reyes provided during the day clearly confirmed this...
Reyes sent him to a safe house in the port of Sassuolo for refuge, which Connor was quite satisfied with. The bombing of Storm Cathedral was clearly just the beginning, not the end. As the Church of Storms, which was the most hawkish against dark wizard organizations in the Kaman Empire, would not let the bombing of Storm Cathedral go unpunished.
If Connor's prediction is correct, today's citywide manhunt by the police and military police is merely a statement from the city hall expressing their support for the Storm Church. The truly formidable counterattack from the Storm Church is yet to come. If you don't want to risk your life, leaving is a good option.
Having quietly entered Sassuolo Harbor, Connor located the warehouse where the safe house was situated, successfully traversed the secret passage, and arrived at the bronze gate he had once visited.
As he stroked the bronze door before him, Connor recalled the method his mentor Reyes had taught him on the telepathic message to open it.
"Tap tap tap!"
Connor focused intently, rhythmically tapping the bronze door with his right hand. When Professor Reyes finished his final tap, the massive bronze door opened silently, just enough to accommodate a person.
Without any hesitation, Connor went inside and, following the instructions Reyes had given him, slowly closed the door.
The once pitch-black safe house was now bathed in a warm orange glow as Connor entered, the gas lamps hanging on the walls flickering with light.
The safe house was empty except for Connor, but for some reason, standing there gave him a chilling feeling...
········
········
Just as Connor arrived at the Secret Society's safe house, an important meeting was being secretly held in a vast manor on the outskirts of the East Rune district.
"Ms. Lena, has your intelligence department found the cause of the explosion at Storm Cathedral?" Seeing that none of the people seated in the room were inclined to speak first, Abidal, a somewhat Mediterranean-looking punisher of the Storm Church, flashed a hint of helplessness in his eyes. He then coughed lightly and asked a graceful, middle-aged blonde woman beside him:
When Abidal asked her first question, Ms. Lena didn't seem surprised at all. Without a trace of panic in her eyes, she immediately stood up and answered:
"Reporting to Lord Abidal, our intelligence department arrived at the cathedral immediately after the explosion. Based on our careful investigation and the evidence we have, we believe the cause of the Storm Cathedral explosion was the ignition of three hundred tons of black powder within the cathedral using a timer device..."
"Three hundred tons of black powder... Hahaha..." Ms. Lena had only finished half of her report to Abidal when a sarcastic laugh suddenly broke out in the previously silent room.
The laughter stopped Ms. Lena's report. Without turning around, she said directly, "Captain Lucas, if you have any objections to our intelligence department's conclusions, you can state them directly without being so sarcastic!"
"Fine! If you want me to be direct, I'll be direct. I can believe you if you say someone put ten or eight pounds of gunpowder in Storm Cathedral, but three hundred tons? Ms. Lena, do you think we're all three-year-olds? With the Storm Cathedral's tight security, let alone three hundred tons of gunpowder, even a formal wizard wouldn't have any chance of sneaking into Storm Cathedral!" The handsome young man in a blue suit, whom Ms. Lena called Captain Lucas, questioned him.
Faced with Lucas's questioning, Ms. Lena remained calm and composed, saying slowly, "Captain Lucas, please note that I only said that the Storm Cathedral explosion was caused by three hundred tons of black powder being ignited and detonated using a timer device. When did I say that these three hundred tons of black powder were secretly placed inside the Storm Cathedral?"
After speaking, Ms. Lena ignored Captain Lucas's astonished expression, took out a leather bag from her spatial ring and handed it to Abidal, solemnly saying, "This is His Holiness the Pope's seventeenth secret order issued half a year ago. Because of yesterday's cathedral explosion, the original copy inside was destroyed. This is a handwritten copy left by our intelligence department. Originally, it had the signatures and seals of Bishop Constantine and Cardinal Hummels of headquarters."
"This order is in duplicate. Although the original copy here has been destroyed, headquarters certainly has a record of it! Now, please have Mr. Divine Punisher examine this handwritten copy of the document. This document details why three hundred tons of gunpowder were secretly stored in the Storm Cathedral headquarters!"
As soon as Ms. Lena said this, everyone's eyes were drawn to the leather bag she handed to Abidal. Abidal's gaze sharpened, and he took the bag with some skepticism. In front of everyone, he pulled out the document from inside.
After a moment, Abidal solemnly placed the document back into the leather bag, pondered for a moment, and said to everyone in the room, "I will personally confirm the contents of this document with Cardinal Hummels. The debate over the three hundred tons of black powder is now over. Ms. Lena, please continue your intelligence department's assessment!"
Lady Lena glanced around at everyone in the room before speaking calmly, "As everyone knows, the Storm Cathedral, one of the five great cathedrals of the Empire, is protected by the Rein Magic Array. It's virtually impossible for a wizard below the second level to infiltrate the Storm Cathedral undetected. And the secret storage of this gunpowder—even a second-level wizard would be discovered if they tried to enter!"
"This morning, we examined the black box of the damaged God's Eye system, and the data inside was completely normal!"
"There are only three possibilities for this situation. First, if it was done by an outsider, then the person who infiltrated the cathedral must be at least a level three wizard!"
"The second possibility is that the newcomer is a level two wizard, possessing a special enchanted item that can evade detection by the Divine Eye System and the Rein Magic Array!"
"The third possibility, I believe you all understand without me saying it..."
