Chapter 13 Running away

Chapter 13 Running away

Looking at the sharp dagger in Khedira's hand, Connor felt a surge of relief. Although he was a formal knight with a physique far superior to others, he was still just a mortal. Being stabbed by the dagger would definitely be a chilling experience, leaving him feeling utterly dejected!

Without any hesitation, Connor threw another punch at Khedira's face. Khedira was only a prospective knight and was no match for him. As long as it wasn't a sneak attack, even if Khedira had a dagger, Connor wouldn't care at all.

As expected, Khedira, who had just gotten up, was once again slammed to the ground by Connor as easily as cutting melons and vegetables.

"I am Hedira, the warden of the No. 1 prison in Rune City! Gustav is my older brother! You're dead!" Hedira, lying on the ground again with his head swollen like a pig's head from Connor's stomping, his face covered in blood, was still shouting wildly, his blood-red eyes filled with resentment.

With a cold snort, Connor shook his head slightly and picked up the dagger that had fallen to the ground.

"What are you going to do?" Seeing Connor pick up a dagger and walk towards him, Khedira felt a bad premonition. He struggled to crawl backward, trying to shake off the devil behind him.

With a cruel smile playing on his lips, Connor grabbed Khedira.

Khedira, who was being held captive and unable to move, looked at the gleaming dagger that had once been hers. Her previously venomous expression instantly crumbled, and she burst into tears, pleading with Connor, "Please, don't kill me! Don't kill me! My brother is the warden. If you don't kill me, he'll give you tons and tons of gold pounds!"

Connor shook his head at Khedira, then smiled and immediately covered Khedira's mouth. He then plunged the dagger into Khedira's thigh, and bright red blood gushed from the wound. After struggling for a few moments, Khedira, having lost too much blood, collapsed to the ground.

Connor originally wanted to stab Khedira a couple more times to vent his anger, but unfortunately, he discovered that the Morgan gang members who had previously ignored Khedira's flirting with Varga seemed to have noticed that he had killed Khedira and were now approaching him in groups of three or four, armed with weapons.

With a raised eyebrow, Connor pulled his top hat down, then turned around without hesitation, grabbed Varga's small hand before she could even react, and started running away.

"stop!"

"***, stop!"

Hearing the curses and threats from the menacing gang members chasing after him, Connor, who was pulling Varga along as they ran, calmly took out a wad of pennies and shillings from his wallet and tossed them into the air behind him.

Upon seeing the dark green banknotes fluttering in mid-air, the men and women in the bar who had been watching the spectacle suddenly lit up with excitement. They dropped what they were holding and rushed over to grab them, turning the entire tavern hall into chaos.

"You brat, get out of my way!"

"Get out of the way! Get out of the way!"

"Do you want to die? Get out of my way!"

Although these armed gang members tried very hard to squeeze through the crowd and catch the fleeing Connor, their threats had very limited deterrent effect on those who wanted to rob them, lured by the money. They could only stand by helplessly in the crowded throng, watching as Connor, holding Varga's hand, calmly kicked open the tavern's thick oak door and walked away.

After running nearly a kilometer with Varga in tow, Connor and Varga finally boarded the public carriage heading to Green University.

"Thank you, Connor!" Varga, still with red eyes, remembered to thank Connor after sitting in the carriage.

Although Varga's voice was soft when she thanked them, the emotion in it was very sincere.

Glancing at the petite and adorable Varga sitting beside him, and seeing the serious look on her face, Connor's frustration at having inexplicably gotten himself into trouble seemed to vanish in an instant.

Connor reached out and wiped away the tear stains on Varga's soft face before smiling and saying, "It's nothing. Remember when you healed my wounds you said we were friends and should help each other?"

"Mmm," Varga's pretty face finally cleared up after the storm, revealing a bright smile.

Looking at Varga's angelic smile, Connor seemed to realize something, and after carefully considering his words, said, "Varga, after you go back today, could you please not call the police?"

"Why don't you call the police? Aren't you a nobleman? How could you..." Varga tilted her head and asked with some confusion. In her impression, the nobles of Kaman were a privileged class, and even if they committed crimes, they would be given a lenient sentence by the court. Why is it that Connor is clearly in the right, but doesn't want to call the police and let those bad guys who harassed her receive a just legal trial?

Connor gave a bitter smile to himself. How could he explain it to Varga? Was he supposed to tell her that he had bought illegal contraband in the bar, and that if the police got involved and found out that he had bought a revolver, he would be hanged?

In this awkward situation, it was fortunate that Connor, having previously written novels, was quick-witted. A plan quickly formed in his mind. He feigned reluctance and said, "That red-haired boy who harassed you is called Hedira. You heard him say his brother is the warden of the First Prison in Rune City, a local bigwig. Although I am a nobleman, my hometown isn't here… So please, Varga, don't call the police!"

Connor's words were somewhat veiled, but he was confident that the intelligent Varga would understand what he was trying to say.

As expected, after hearing Connor's explanation, Varga's face immediately showed a look of realization. She nodded seriously and said softly, "Connor, you've already helped me stab that bastard in the back, which has already helped me vent my anger. Don't worry, I won't call the police again!"

Having received a satisfactory reply, Connor was naturally overjoyed. He now focused on dealing with Rebecca and Vidal's affairs and did not want any unexpected events to occur.

Watching Varga's figure gradually disappear into the Green University campus, Connor smiled and shook his head, his gaze fixed on the blue potion in his hand.

The potion still retained Varga's warm scent; it was something Varga had insisted on giving to Connor. Varga said it was a very precious item, and that drinking this blue potion could effectively stop bleeding and alleviate injuries. Connor hadn't intended to accept it, but Varga's attitude was unwavering. She placed the potion in Connor's hand, turned, and ran away.
