Sitting alone on the sofa, Connor squinted as he sipped his whiskey. Margaret had left the apartment half an hour earlier, but the news she had told him still shocked Connor.

At first, Connor thought Margaret was bluffing him, but after Margaret said some things, Connor realized that he had once been walking on the edge of danger.

According to Margaret, before he killed Vidal, the Church of Storms had already set its sights on Vidal, a cultist of the Church of Spirits. However, they only considered Vidal, a novice wizard apprentice, to be a small fry and wanted to see if there were any bigger fish in the future, so they did not take action to kill him directly.

Because of the recent undercurrents in Rune, the Storm Church was short-handed and feared alerting the enemy, so the Storm Church did not assign anyone to track Vidal. They only secretly cast a location spell on Vidal. The day after Connor killed Vidal and Rebecca, the church members appeared in the castle.

As for how the Storm Church became suspicious of Connor, it was because they found the detective Connor had hired during his first investigation of Rebecca, and they used Connor's portrait to find the security personnel whom Connor had bribed that day.

After Margaret recounted so many details, Connor agreed with her words, which also resolved a long-standing question in his mind: why Margaret, with whom he had no prior connection, had taken the initiative to find him at Eivar Manor that day.

It now seems that Margaret had her eye on him ever since!

Connor knew very well why Margaret had told him so much; it wasn't simply a matter of Connor telling Margaret how he found her in exchange for it.

Margaret was telling Connor that the Church of Storms had its eye on him, but because they were currently preoccupied with their own problems, lacked concrete evidence, and were wary of Connor's noble background, all of these factors combined allowed Connor to remain so carefree.

Thinking about this, Connor couldn't help but feel a little fortunate. He had made a vow with Margaret using the Eye of Arbitration; otherwise, Margaret would never have told him these things. Now, to prevent Connor from being captured by the Church of Storms and implicating her, Margaret either had to kill Connor to silence him or help him avoid being captured by the Church of Storms!

Judging from what she told me, Margaret should have silenced me, but she was powerless to do so, which is why she chose the second method!

Connor had his own reasons for not including a non-harm clause in his oath with Margaret. Judging from the current situation, it would be difficult for him to kill Margaret alone. However, fortunately, he was not alone. He had the Secret Society behind him, and his true intention was to use the power of the Secret Society to kill Margaret.

The idea was good, but the reality was that the Secret Society was planning something big, and it was at a crucial moment. Connor felt that even if he contacted his mentor Reyes using a communication paper at this time, Reyes would only tell him to handle it himself.

Therefore, Connor believed that he might need time, to wait for the Secret Society to have the resources to help him get rid of Margaret, or perhaps for an opportunity for him to silence Margaret.

For a time, Connor's life returned to normal, commuting daily between his apartment and Green University, while Varga's...

The withdrawal from the university and Professor Reyes's extended sick leave did not have much impact on Green University, a century-old institution with thousands of students.

One day, after school, Connor arrived at the public carriage station as usual, waiting for his carriage to go home. He was in a tight financial situation. He had spent several hundred gold pounds on renovating his apartment and buying some alchemy materials, and now he only had a dozen or so gold pounds left for daily expenses.

The wait for the carriage was boring. However, as Connor was pondering what method would be used to decompose mithril in tonight's alchemy experiment, a thin, short girl with an extremely ordinary face appeared beside him. This girl was also carrying a somewhat worn backpack, and it seemed that she was also a student at Green University, waiting for the carriage to take her home.

Without giving it much thought, Connor remained immersed in his alchemy world. He was now focused on completing the assignment Reyes had given him—a replica of the second-level enchanted item, the Castia Staff. This assignment was a difficult challenge for Connor's current alchemy level, and the mithril disintegration he had to complete that night was a very important part of this challenge.

"Clatter!"

The plain-looking girl waiting for the bus with Connor had a small purse fall out of her pocket, but she seemed a little careless and didn't realize it. She hurriedly boarded a public carriage that was pulling into the station.

"Hey, classmate, your wallet!" Connor picked up the wallet and called out to the careless girl, trying to return it to its owner. However, the owner did not seem to hear Connor's shouts, nor did she realize that her wallet was missing. Meanwhile, the carriage she was riding in sped away from the station.

Frowning as he watched the carriage depart, Connor shook his head helplessly. Just as he was about to hand the wallet over to the security office at Green University to return it to its owner, Connor's expression turned somewhat suspicious. His hand, holding the wallet, seemed to feel a bracelet inside the wallet through the leather.

The discovery of a bracelet in a girl's wallet wasn't enough to raise Connor's suspicions. What truly alarmed him was that, according to the chip, the bracelet in his wallet appeared to be something he had crafted!

Without making a sound, Connor boarded another carriage. After confirming that no one was paying attention to him, he quietly opened his wallet. The first thing he saw was a yellow jade bracelet. He then noticed a neatly folded piece of paper inside.

Connor picked up the yellow jade bracelet and stroked it in his palm. A smile appeared on his face. He knew that what was coming had finally arrived.

Opening the small note in the wallet, I saw a line of delicate handwriting: "7 PM tonight, Aunt Eileen's dessert shop."

Nodding, Connor felt it necessary to postpone his planned mithril decomposition experiment tonight until tomorrow. Tonight would be an absolutely wonderful night!
