The Silent Bookstore Manager at Hogwarts
Chapter 77 Dumbledore Discovers Something Is Wrong
Fudge has been living a very good life lately. Dumbledore has no time to bother with him, so this is the time for him, the Minister of Magic, to show his skills. In fact, he has recently acquired quite a few achievements that can be written into his resume, such as thwarting the smuggling plots of dark wizards or maintaining law and order. Of course, the actual situation is definitely a little different from what is written, but who cares about that?
Fudge sat in his office. He had been arriving at the office much later on, after all, the bed was indeed the greatest invention of mankind. Fudge, who had been "working tirelessly" for the British wizarding world, certainly needed to rest more to protect his body and mind.
However, today, as soon as Fudge entered the office, he felt a pressure that made his legs tremble. The white-haired old man sitting on the reception sofa stared at him expressionlessly. It was at that moment that Fudge suddenly remembered something: at some point in the past, someone had called Dumbledore the "White Lord," saying that he was not much different from the Dark Lord except for his purpose.
Today, Fudge felt as if he was being targeted by the White Demon King, and he even began to wonder if he had done something too much.
"Fudge, long time no see... I need you to do something for me."
Dumbledore's sudden words eased the tension slightly. Fudge wiped the cold sweat from his brow. Luckily, Dumbledore hadn't come to interrogate him, or he would have blurted out that he had "slightly" used a portion of the funds.
"I'll do anything I can to help you with anything you need to do."
Fudge noticed that Dumbledore used "need" instead of "hope," meaning there was no room for negotiation. So Fudge could only hope that this wouldn't be something insurmountable.
"Fudge, I hope you can help me find two people, one named Harry Potter and the other named Red Maxwell. They are both first-year students at Hogwarts, and their wands should have traces of magic. The Ministry of Magic should be able to help me find these two missing young wizards. Even if I can't find where they are now, I at least want to know where they were last seen!"
Dumbledore's serious expression made Fudge nod repeatedly; he certainly didn't think this usually amiable old man was someone who could be easily fooled or bullied.
"Wait, Potter... that one!!" Fudge suddenly realized something. He had only finished half of his sentence when he saw Dumbledore's eyes. He shuddered and immediately began to do as Dumbledore instructed.
He had never seen Dumbledore with that expression before, so as a competent British official, he immediately understood his place and began to do his best to serve Dumbledore.
Where can the two children go?
Dumbledore couldn't understand why Harry and Red had just disappeared without a trace. Harry really seemed unable to accept life with the Dursleys...
"And Red, how come he took Harry away too...?"
Dumbledore felt more helpless towards Red than anything else. Red was unlike anyone he had ever met, and Red's actions were often unexpected. However, now was not the time for reflection; he had to immediately think about how to bring Harry back. Without the protection of a spell, Harry could really die at the hands of a dark wizard, something Dumbledore absolutely could not accept.
While Dumbledore was frantically searching for Red and Harry, the two had already arrived at Nicolas Flamel's former residence. Clearly, the master was somewhat self-aware of his own time constraints, as he left the two young wizards the address of his former residence. If they really couldn't find a place to stay, it would be a pretty good place to stay. Moreover, he had left many things in his former residence and workshop when he moved to England, so Harry and Red might even find quite a few good things.
"51 Rue Montmorency... It really has been hidden by magic. But won't this attract the attention of those dark wizards? It's strange that an empty house has been set up with concealment magic, no matter how you look at it, isn't it?"
Harry asked, reaching his hand through the barrier. Nicolas Flamel's house had been neglected for a long time, and the rooms were covered in dust. Fortunately, they had covered all the furniture with cloth before they left, so cleaning wasn't too difficult.
"Although I know you seem to have a lot of opinions about the Ministry of Magic, and I do too... But you have to objectively admit that the Ministry of Magic and the Aurors have indeed made a significant contribution to peace. Dark wizards don't dare to be so lawless. Once we've settled on accommodations, you can begin your research. That rifle is actually in pretty good condition. If you can make suitable projectiles, its destructive power will definitely not be small."
As for Red, he planned to go out and gather some information, both as a wizard and as a stowaway, to see what Paris was really like now.
Paris is very prosperous. This is not meant to express anything, but simply to describe a fact. Red did not look for the location of Paris or the French Ministry of Magic. It was best for them to avoid seeing the Ministry of Magic staff, since no one wanted to take unnecessary risks.
However, Fudge and Dumbledore forgot one thing in their eagerness: the British Ministry of Magic's pathetic secrecy. In fact, just half a day after Fudge began searching for Red and Harry, and even before Red and Harry arrived at Nicolas Flamel's former residence, the news had already leaked out. British dark wizards had begun to spread the word, with the remnants of the Death Eaters being the most concerned.
"The boy who survived the prophecy that he would kill the great Dark Lord seems to have mysteriously disappeared; he could be anywhere in Britain."
That's how fast rumors spread. Of course, Dumbledore even suspected that Fudge was doing this on purpose, since these dark wizards were much more diligent in finding people than the Aurors. But then he thought that Fudge simply didn't have the intelligence to do such a thing, so Dumbledore gave up on his plan to test him. He had already done enough inexplicable tests.
"No matter what, we need to find Red and Harry before these dark wizards do. Fudge... you should understand what I mean."
Dumbledore rubbed his eyes; he didn't want anything to happen to a child.
