The Silent Bookstore Manager at Hogwarts
Chapter 72 [Harry the Exile]
Harry's holiday was far from pleasant; in fact, it was torture for him.
His uncle's family was even more oppressive to him, not only confiscating his wand but also continuing to let Dudley bully him.
Of course, Harry didn't seem so helpless under Red's tutelage. He really fought back against Dudley, even though his aunt and uncle took sides with him and even sent him back to that room in the attic. He didn't know why he had to go back to this place that caused him pain. Everyone in the Dursleys regarded letting him live there as a blessing, a blessing that was high and mighty.
"So... Reid, what brings you here?"
On the fifth day of the holiday, Harry was surprised to see Red appear at the Dursleys' door with a huge bundle on his back, looking as if he were about to go on a long trip.
"You're asking me that? Are you leaving?"
"Where to?"
"Go anywhere you like. If you really don't like staying here, why not go out and explore? The world is so big, you can always find a place to stay. Although the Silent Bookstore is a great place for a holiday, you can't expect to stay there forever, but I can."
Red had no concerns whatsoever. After returning to the orphanage, he realized that his presence there would only increase the orphanage's financial burden pointlessly, so he might as well go out and explore. As for the so-called trail and the prohibition against spellcasting, Red didn't care at all. Wands were wands, but he didn't need them to cast spells. Besides, even if he wanted to use a wand, he had two wands donated by an unknown dark wizard, and he and Harry could each have one.
"I... okay, I'll go back and pack my things, let's leave now!!"
Harry thought for a moment and suddenly realized that his treatment at the Dursleys' house gave him absolutely no reason to stay. Although Dumbledore had sent him back, the pain made him want to return to Hogwarts immediately. He would rather not have this home at all.
"Then let's hurry, our journey is destined to be a long one..."
Red called out, he couldn't understand why Dumbledore wanted to let Harry go back to the Dursleys to be abused. He was already in such a state, it would be better to let him go back to Hogwarts or find a place for him to relax. There were many things that Dumbledore had never explained to Harry and Red, so Red decided to do things his own way. Anyway, he was at home with Harry, so he might as well go somewhere else.
Harry quickly packed his bags, leaving a note for his uncle. He didn't care what would happen next; running away with Red for a trip seemed better than staying at the Dursleys' and suffering. As for the difficulties on the road... they were wizards, and they had the Silent Bookshop to go to, so Harry didn't take these so-called difficulties to heart at all.
"Our first stop is London. Of course, as you know, I don't actually have much money on me... Although I 'borrowed' some money from some people before coming here, it's only enough for us to leave England. After that, it's up to us to figure out what to do next."
"Wait...leaving England?!"
Harry was stunned. He thought Red only planned to travel around the nearby counties, but now he realized that he didn't have enough stuff.
"Yes... otherwise why would I tell you to prepare? And we won't have legal status to leave the UK, so..."
Red's words made Harry's breathing become heavy. Their next journey would cross the border to the other side of the Channel, which was undoubtedly an incredibly exciting trip, but the risks were also obvious.
"If all else fails, we can just hide back at the Silent Bookstore. After all, the key to the Silent Bookstore will always be in the hands of the administrator."
Red laughed, and the two of them shouldered their bags and set off from the Dursleys' house, embarking on a journey unknown to anyone, or rather... a unique exile for Harry.
"Of course, now that we are setting off, I will teach you a new and great art called the 'Night Travel Art,' and I will teach you some knowledge of the great arts that belong to this art."
Harry hadn't expected to start learning right from the start of his journey, just as he hadn't imagined that the first thing he'd do as the Silent Books Manager would be learn languages.
【Nightwalking】: "Traveling at night is neither faster nor safer. That's why we do it this way." It refers to the knowledge of paths and trails beyond the mundane. It is one of the three arts of the night. The main reason Red chose Nightwalking as Harry's fourth skill was because Harry's performance at Hogwarts was far from ideal; even with the Invisibility Cloak, he was still caught.
Therefore, Red specially prepared this skill for Harry, which is most suitable for thieves, merchants, and messengers, to ensure that Harry could reach his destination quickly while hiding himself.
"I still don't understand why they would say, 'Traveling at night is neither faster nor safer. That's why we do it this way.'"
Harry scratched his head; this was his first question about the Nightwalking spell.
"Because it can reach the destination. You have to understand that for many people, reaching the destination is an impossible thing. However, the existence of the [Night Travel Technique] is to turn the impossible into the possible."
Harry nodded in understanding.
"So, where's our first stop?"
Devonshire.
Harry paused for a moment. The Dursleys' house in Surrey was not far from London, but Devon was almost at the southwesternmost border of England. If he wanted to go to London, wouldn't that be going in the opposite direction?
"Harry, do you still remember what you were protecting... the Philosopher's Stone, that's what we call it, right? Do you remember the name of its creator?"
"Nico Flamel, the greatest alchemist of our time, achieved immortality through the Philosopher's Stone..."
"That's right, Harry. I had a brief encounter with the Philosopher's Stone before Dumbledore arrived, and then I found this Nicolas Flamel through the power of my soul. Quite by chance, he was in Devonshire."
Reid smiled. The two of them had arrived at a train station in Surrey and were about to take a train to Devon, to the home of Nicolas Flamel.
"Wouldn't it be too presumptuous of us to visit like this?" Harry asked with some concern.
"That's still better than not going at all. We'll find out how that master really views us once we go, won't we?"
As Reid said this, the two boarded the train to Devon.
