The Silent Bookstore Manager at Hogwarts
Chapter 34 Hunting Ritual
Hermione stumbled and ran, not very fast, but the troll's little brain was clearly trying to understand what had just happened. It instinctively raised its stick and followed Hermione, trying to get out of the toilet. The troll, trying to find the source of the sound, obviously ignored the little one at its feet, so Hermione did manage to escape.
"Run!!! Run now!!!"
When Hermione saw Red, Harry, and Ron, she instinctively shouted. She didn't think the three classmates could handle the troll behind them; the best course of action was to go find the teachers immediately...
However, Harry remained motionless, looking at Hermione, or rather, at the troll behind Hermione.
"Hermione, keep running, don't stop."
Without a second thought, Hermione quickened her pace upon hearing this. She quickly ran to Reid's side, panting, and grabbed his sleeve, wanting him to go find the professors. Hermione knew that only they could properly handle the invading trolls, assuming Hogwarts was alright.
However, Red remained unmoved. He seemed to be observing something and made an action almost identical to Harry's, while only Ron seemed just as oblivious as she was.
"Fluorescent Light"
With a short incantation, Harry raised his wand, drawing the troll's attention. Although the huge, clumsy monster didn't yet understand what was happening, its limited brain capacity had grasped the concept that Harry was its enemy, so it raised its massive wooden club and swung it at Harry with all its might.
"Run!!!"
Hermione called out anxiously, trying to draw her wand and cast the spells she knew well, any of them would do, as long as they could help, she thought.
However, her mouth seemed to be stuttering, and she couldn't even recite the spell fluently. Finally, she could only dejectedly put down her wand, realizing acutely that she was now utterly useless...
The giant stared at the motionless little creature in front of it, unable to understand why its prey had stopped moving. But just then, its intense hunger reminded it to abandon its thinking and focus on filling its stomach, which was the most urgent, or even the only, thing to do.
So the troll raised its stick, and Harry, watching its movements, pushed up his glasses and began to move as well. His movements were so light and agile that they didn't seem like those of a wizard, but rather like those of a hunter who had spent years roaming the mountains.
Harry approached the troll almost without any hindrance. He first tried to poke the troll's skin with his wand, but it was clear that his wand could not cause any effective damage to the troll, and the same was true for his spells. Although the troll had little intelligence, its resistance to magic was troublesome enough for a wizard.
The giant wooden club swung around, and the troll felt a surge of annoyance. The tiny creature at its feet was always standing out of its reach. Even when it swung its most prized weapon, it couldn't reach the agile Harry. To ensure his agility, Harry even took off his robes.
"Red! Do you have any weapons?!"
Harry once again deftly escaped the blows of the giant wooden club. He turned to Red and asked, without a suitable weapon, even if he could ignore the troll's attacks now, he couldn't do much more than stall until the teachers arrived. But the problem was... he wanted to complete his hunting ritual, and no one should interfere. That was why Red had been watching from the sidelines.
Red cracked his knuckles, turning a rock fragment shattered by the troll's swing of the club into a short sword, which he then tossed to Harry without hesitation.
"Wait! What are you doing?! Why are you throwing a sword at Harry...?" Ron could see very clearly that Reed was aiming to hit Harry with the short sword. Ron couldn't understand why Reed would do such a thing.
"Because Harry can catch it, we will definitely think things through before we do anything... Don't worry."
Ron was stunned. The words Harry had once said to him resurfaced in his mind. He felt as if he were meeting Harry and Red for the first time. He watched as Harry dodged the thrown dagger and managed to grab the hilt, just like an invincible warrior. He even doubted that Gryffindor could have performed such a heroic feat.
Even so, the dagger still couldn't cut through the troll's skin, or rather, Harry suddenly realized that his strength was actually insufficient to cut the troll's body with the dagger. If he were to forcefully use the dagger to pierce the troll's flesh, the most likely outcome would be that the dagger would be jammed by the troll's muscles, leaving him without a weapon and back to hand-to-hand combat.
Harry jumped back, getting out of the troll's attack range. He pushed up his glasses again, aligning the right lens with the light hanging on the ceiling. The subtle light shone through the lens, and Harry instantly realized what he should do. The troll was already charging at him, swinging its club, but Harry simply took off his glasses and adjusted the angle of the lenses.
The lens made of the Tilde Lens refracted the light from the oil lamp into an unsettling, eerie beam that struck the troll's disproportionately small head. The sudden glare pierced the troll's single eye, instantly blinding it. It frantically swung its weapon, trying to drive away its enemy, but in a place it couldn't see, Harry gripped his weapon tightly.
His face was expressionless, silent and hard as steel. Harry gripped his short sword tightly and began to run. He sensed the possibility of a fatal blow, if only...
The troll's club slammed into the ground again, kicking up a cloud of dust. Harry's superhuman physical abilities were on full display at this moment. He stepped on the club and the troll's arm, and soared into the sky, landing on the troll's neck.
Then, expressionless, he aimed his short sword at the giant's tightly closed eyes and plunged it in.
The troll let out a terrifying roar, but the next second, its massive body crashed to the ground, and Harry sat on its corpse, saying nothing, raising his sword.
He gently drew a small scar on his arm.
These scars are both wisdom and regret, a statement Harry deeply understood. He completed his own independent hunt, without a doubt.
