The Silent Bookstore Manager at Hogwarts
Chapter 33 Heading to the Basement
Harry and Ron secretly left the Gryffindor group. Prefect Percy was too busy to take care of so many people and didn't notice that Harry and Ron, two first-year students, had suddenly disappeared from the group. The others were also immersed in the unease brought about by the sudden appearance of the troll and no one cared about their disappearance.
"Why do we have to..." Ron trembled slightly. As a child from a wizarding family, he knew how terrifying trolls were, yet what they were doing now was searching for Hermione in the basement where the trolls were located.
"Ron, Hermione is our classmate. She doesn't know yet that the troll is in the basement. If the teachers find her before the troll, that's fine, but if they don't..."
Ron froze, imagining the scene: a giant monster wielding a wooden club, easily smashing Hermione into a pile of minced meat. He instinctively clenched his teeth.
"Let's go, we have to save her... Only we can do this now!"
Ron realized this; everyone else who knew Hermione was still in the basement had already returned to their dorms, and only they could do this: rescue Hermione, who was crying alone in the girls' bathroom.
"What are you all babbling about here? Are you going underground to look for someone?"
Ron nearly jumped out of his skin. He had no idea that a third person would overhear his conversation with Harry. What if he told the teachers...?
Then Ron turned around and saw Red still holding a cake in his hand. Red and Harry exchanged a glance.
"Going to the basement?"
"Yes, Hermione is still there. She doesn't know about this news, and we're worried something might happen to her..."
"Then let's go. What are you waiting for here? The troll won't slow down just because you're chatting here."
Red looked at the staircase leading to the underground area. The staircases at Hogwarts often changed, but this time, the staircase leading to the underground was fixed. Red knew without a doubt who was responsible for this.
Harry and Ron both nodded. Now that they had a target, the two Gryffindor students had no shortage of motivation. So, together with Red, the three of them quickly headed to the girls' restroom in the underground area to find Hermione.
-------------------------------------------------- ---
Hermione desperately covered her mouth to prevent herself from making any sound that would alert the enormous troll standing outside the women's restroom. The shadow cast by the troll's terrifying figure would normally have made Hermione gag, but in this life-or-death situation, she couldn't afford to make any mistakes. She could only hold her breath, cover her mouth, and pray that the troll hadn't noticed her hiding in the women's restroom stall.
The enormous, clumsy monster shook its huge club, looking around in confusion. It didn't even know what it was supposed to do, but it was hungry, and hunger was the best motivation. It began to search for any food it could swallow in this unknown land.
The stick smashed the small decorations nearby that annoyed it. In this eerie place, it could only rely on its most familiar, brute force to find something to alleviate its hunger.
It slowly walked into the women's restroom, and Hermione, seeing this, curled up even more in terror, afraid that making a sound would alert the troll.
"Trolls, monsters of danger level XXXX, whose sheer size alone can make most young wizards lose their will to fight, and even scare them into losing their survival instincts... This is the most dangerous thing for young wizards when facing trolls."
Reid recalled the description of the troll in the book. For the young wizards, its greatest threat was not the giant wooden stick, but the terror it instilled in their minds.
"Losing the ability to move and make judgments in battle is practically a death sentence, Harry... Any thoughts?"
Harry was taken aback by Red's sudden words, and he instinctively replied...
"Trolls have thick skin and are quite resistant to spells. In addition, their bodies are already very large. Generally speaking, it is practically impossible for a small wizard like us to subdue a troll with a wand and spells."
This was one of the few useful things Quirrell said in his trembling voice during his lecture in the classroom. Although Harry felt that Professor Quirrell was not really suited to be the Defense Against the Dark Arts professor, he still remembered every single thing that was useful to him.
Then they heard a scream. Hermione screamed in terror. She had been discovered by the troll. The troll clearly didn't have the habit of wasting food, but it was very helpless that its food could escape. So it could only raise its huge wooden club and sweep all the compartments clean.
Hermione lay on the ground, crawling forward with all her might, and awkwardly clung to the wall to avoid the first blow.
The enormous monster stood right in front of her, and Hermione was so terrified that she lost the ability to speak. She even felt her limbs starting to disobey her commands, and the nauseating stench assaulted her senses, leaving her completely at a loss for what to do.
"Harry... can you feel your scars burning...?"
Harry Potter paused for a moment, then subconsciously moved his wrist, feeling an urge to grip his weapon tightly.
"Go ahead and do it. Hunting monsters is what you're supposed to do. How about this giant monster be your first prey?"
Ron was completely baffled by what he was hearing. The troll that made even a young wizard's legs go weak was described by Red as mere "prey." He really wanted to shout at Red if he understood what he was saying, making his good friend, the "savior" of Hogwarts, a first-year wizard, face the troll empty-handed?
"I feel it..." Harry's breathing became heavy. He felt himself becoming highly excited, not fearful but excited. Even though his mind remained very calm, his body had already entered a state of excitement. If it weren't for the [Scar Commandment] keeping him basically calm, he might have become too excited.
"Hermione!!! Run outside!"
Harry suddenly yelled, which not only attracted the troll's attention but also gave the helpless Hermione a lifeline. She immediately got up and ran for her life towards the bathroom door, where she saw three people coming towards her.
