Hong Kong: Black Gold Tycoons

Chapter 44 Who Writes a Diary If They're a Serious Person?

The private room was completely silent.

It was as quiet as if the dead had died.

Everyone looked at Chen Fei with disbelief.

Michelle and the others didn't dare to utter a sound.

They never imagined that they would encounter such a thing just because they came to a dinner party.

Li Guomin stared at Chen Fei across from him, unable to fathom what gave this young man the confidence to say such a thing.

He'd been around for so many years, seen people threaten him, beg him, and stab him in the back, but he'd never seen anyone dare sit in front of him and say such things in this tone.

Moreover, he was just an unknown nobody who ran a magazine.

After a brief silence, Li Guomin suddenly smiled.

It wasn't the kind of laugh that comes from being frightened; it was the kind of laugh that comes from looking down on someone who thinks the other person is courting death.

He leaned back in his chair, slowly turning the jade thumb ring on his thumb.

He said slowly and deliberately, "Do you know who we are?"

Chen Fei picked up the wine glass in front of Michelle, took a sip, and said, "I know, Li Guomin, the Director of the Film and Television Department, Xiang Zhenbang, the Minister of Commerce and Industry, Zhou Qixian, the President of the GG Chamber of Commerce, Liang Jinrong, and the Legislative Councilor Gao Shichang."

"You're not entirely naive," Li Guomin snorted. "Even the Chief Secretary treats me with deference, and the Commissioner of Police has to make an appointment before I can have tea. You, a nobody who came to Hong Kong from the mainland to run a magazine, dare to speak to me like that?"

Chen Fei smiled and said, "Then I should introduce the two people I brought with me. Wang Jianjun is my most reliable brother and my sharpest knife. Ya Zi is my top strategist. By the way, everyone else in this shop except you has been drugged by my strategist."

"You dare threaten me?" Li Guomin's eyes became even more vicious. "Do you know how many threatening letters I receive every year? Some of those people are stuck in Stanley, some have fled abroad and dare not come back, and some are no longer in this world."

He looked coldly at Chen Fei. "Which one do you think you'll be?"

"Young man, don't be so arrogant." Xiang Zhenbang's tone carried the usual condescending air of a bureaucrat: "I don't care how you got in here, one phone call from me and you'll be stuck in Stanley for life. Young man, I advise you to leave while you still can."

He paused, then added, "If you really think you're someone important, you've got it wrong. In Hong Kong, people like you who run gossip magazines are basically just beggars. In our eyes, you're nothing but a fart."

Zhou Qixian's voice was even louder than Xiang Zhenbang's: "You surnamed Chen, do you believe that if I issue a single notice, no newsstand in Hong Kong will dare to sell your stuff? You'll be stuck with nothing but a single sheet of paper?"

Liang Jinrong adjusted his glasses, his tone less aggressive, but the contempt was obvious:

"Mr. Chan, you may not understand the GG market in Hong Kong. Our chamber of commerce controls more than 70% of the brand advertising budget in Hong Kong. Let me tell you, your magazine won't even get a single page of GG. Without GG, how will you survive? With your tens of thousands of copies sold? Is that enough to cover printing costs?"

Councilor Ko also spoke slowly: "Young man, it's good to have drive, but you have to use that drive in the right place. You run a magazine, and you've offended Legislative Council members, the Film, Television and Media Services Department, the Urban Council, and the GG Chamber of Commerce. Do you think you've lived too long? Or do you think Hong Kong's prisons aren't big enough?"

His tone was like an elder lecturing a junior: "If you know what's good for you, shut down the magazine tomorrow and publish an apology to Councilor Lee. I can even put in a good word for you with Councilor Lee so you can leave with dignity. If you don't know what's good for you, don't blame us for being ruthless."

After listening to what these people said, Li Guomin gestured to them to be quiet.

Then he looked at Chen Fei and said coldly, "I'm not trying to scare you. I can take what you just said as youthful impetuosity and not hold it against you. Now stand up and walk out. Nothing will happen tonight. Tomorrow, you can shut down the magazine and publicly apologize to me, and I can let you go back to the mainland in a wheelchair."

He then held up three fingers: "I'll give you three seconds, get out!"

These people's words made the atmosphere in the private room extremely heavy.

Representative Lee and his ilk, though seemingly offering earnest advice, were actually plotting to kill him.

However, the other female celebrities had different thoughts.

It's not because of anything else, it's because this person entered the room the wrong way.

Those who can usually get into these private clubs are either wealthy people in suits or big bosses with bodyguards.

But these three people, dressed plainly, without ties, invitations, or anyone to guide them, simply kicked the door open and came in.

Especially after Chen Fei sat down, he maintained a smile throughout the series of humiliations from Li Guomin and his ilk.

It wasn't a forced smile; it was a genuinely indifferent smile.

Michelle had attended many dinner parties and met many wealthy people. She knew who was just putting on airs and who was genuinely confident.

The young man didn't seem like he was there to die, but rather to collect a debt.

She no longer cared why Chen Fei wanted to drink her glass of wine; instead, she wanted to know what gave Chen Fei the audacity to publish the photo of Li Guomin hanging from a street lamp.

Wei Qiuhua and Zheng Yuling, among others, shared similar ideas.

But everyone knows that the smartest thing to do in this situation is to shut up, not move, and not make a sound.

Chen Fei put down the cup and took out his gun.

Snapped!

It was slammed on the table.

Seeing this scene.

Li Guomin's expression changed.

It wasn't out of fear, it was out of anger.

He never expected that this person would actually barge into his dinner party with a gun, and even dare to take the gun out.

In Hong Kong, possession of a firearm is a serious crime, and threatening a legislator with a firearm is an even greater crime.

Is this person crazy?

"Are you going to kill me?" Li Guomin asked coldly.

"I'll definitely kill him." Chen Fei said as he unfastened the safety lock. "Besides, I went to your house before I came here."

Before Li Guomin could figure out what the sentence meant, Chen Fei had already taken out a notebook.

He patted the notebook cover and said, "Take a look for yourself, see what this is."

Li Guomin's expression changed drastically in an instant.

Moreover, it's a deep-seated panic that seeps from the very core of one's being and cannot be suppressed.

He recognized the notebook as his own, and the words "coming and going" written in the upper right corner with a ballpoint pen were in his handwriting.

This highly confidential notebook was always locked at the very bottom of his study's safe.

How did this person get it?

Chen Fei opened his notebook and laughed, "Councilor Li, your problem is that you love keeping accounts too much. You record the date, who you were with, how much money you received, and what you did, down to the last detail. You're a Legislative Council member, why are you writing such a detailed diary? Are you afraid you won't have any material to write your memoirs later?"

He paused, then added, "Who would write their innermost thoughts in a diary? What decent person writes a diary? I don't."

He pulled out a piece of paper and threw it at Zhou Qixian.

"Minister Zhou, this is for you. Please check if the amount is correct."

Zhou Qixian picked up the paper with some skepticism and turned it over to take a look.

His pupils dilated at just one glance.

It was a handwritten record, with the date, amount, and reason clearly stated.

"March 15th, Zhou Qixian, Municipal Bureau of Industry and Commerce, 300,000, to coordinate the approval of the Sai Kung Wharf land."

"May 8th, Zhou Qixian, 200,000, expedite the approval for the renovation of the Kwun Tong Industrial Building."

"May 10th, Zhou Qixian, 150,000, to handle the issue of the 'Black Gold' magazine newsstand license."

This last one is for today.

Zhou Qixian's face changed from red to white, and then from white to green.

He suddenly looked up at Li Guomin, "Li Guomin! You fucking put a grudge against me?"

Li Guomin's lips trembled slightly: "Old Zhou, let me explain, it's not what you think..."

"Then what should I think?" Zhou Qixian slammed the page on the table, making the dishes clatter. "Three hundred thousand, two hundred thousand, one hundred and fifty thousand—you even wrote down what happened today! What are you doing writing all this down? What do you want to do?"

Xiang Zhenbang immediately pointed at Chen Fei: "Stop trying to sow discord here! Who knows if your ledger is real or fake?"

Chen Fei pulled out another piece of paper and threw it to Xiang Zhenbang.

"Director Xiang, this is yours. Don't worry, Representative Li treats everyone equally, so everyone gets a share."

Xiang Zhenbang took a look and his face turned pale instantly.

The records are even more detailed, including which club he visited on which day, how much cash he received, who he approved what for, and even the number of luxury watches he received, with the brand, model, and serial number all recorded.

"You..." Xiang Zhenbang pointed at Li Guomin, his finger trembling, "Li Guomin, are you crazy? You've memorized all this stuff, are you trying to get us all killed?"

Liang Jinrong and Gao Shichang didn't look much better either.

Before they could speak, Chen Fei pulled out two more bills and threw them over.

Liang Jinrong's document contained his internal transaction records from the GG Chamber of Commerce, showing which GG companies gave him how many points, and which brands bribed him to get on his recommendation list.

Kao Shih-chang's document was even more ruthless; it contained bribery records for internal Legislative Council voting, detailing how much money was given per vote, who gave it to whom, and what vote was cast—more clearly than any official file.

After reading it, Gao Shichang slowly placed the paper on the table, looked up, and stared at Li Guomin.

That look in his eyes was no longer anger, but murderous intent.

"Li Guomin, I've known you for twenty-three years, you asked me to campaign for you, and I did. You asked me to block bills for you, and I did. Is this how you treat me?"

Li Guomin's forehead began to sweat.

Chen Fei pulled another piece of paper from his notebook.

He glanced at Zhou Qixian, then at Li Guomin, and smiled.

"Minister Zhou, there's something else I think you should take a look at."

He placed the papers on the table and pushed them in front of Zhou Qixian.

Zhou Qixian picked it up; it was a medical report from Queen Elizabeth Hospital from ten years ago.

This is an expensive medical test, mostly used in legal disputes such as inheritance disputes, custody battles, and cases involving children born out of wedlock.

The three names above are: Li Guomin's, Lao Zhou's wife's, and Lao Zhou's son's.

The identification results stated that "based on ABO, Rh, and HLA typing analysis, it cannot be ruled out that the aforementioned man is the biological father of the child."

Upon seeing the test results, Zhou Qixian trembled uncontrollably.

He stared at the report for a full ten seconds, reading it word by word, three times.

His eyes were red as he glared at Li Guomin, gritting his teeth as he said, "You fucking held a grudge against me? And you slept with my wife?"
