Witch Training Manual: My Water Magic Is Wrong

Chapter 31 The Great Purge, and the Hiring Along the Way

Early the next morning.

Wayne pushed open the door, and the yard was already bustling with activity.

Ella and Emma were sweeping up the fallen leaves that had accumulated overnight. Vera was squatting by the well, drawing water and carrying buckets into the kitchen. Lillian was sitting on the steps, yawning, clearly still half asleep.

It was colder in the courtyard than the night before, and his breath condensed into white mist in the air. He stretched his shoulders and walked toward the main hall of the church.

I stopped halfway through my walk.

Mayfair stood at the front door of the church.

She had her back to him, examining the goddess statue with its missing nose, her hair fluttering slightly in the wind.

Wayne walked over.

"Sister Mayfair," Wayne began.

Mayfair looked at him.

Wayne remained silent for a moment.

You look good today.

Mayfair paused for a moment.

"……Thanks."

Her voice was flat, revealing no emotion.

Wayne nodded and turned to walk into the church.

After Wayne left, Melsa's face began to flush slightly as she couldn't help but recall everything that had happened the night before.

She tossed and turned, unable to sleep.

Later, my body started acting up.

By the time she came to her senses, she had already finished.

She didn't know what was wrong with her last night.

At twenty-six, having spent ten years in the Vatican, he was never that kind of person. But after that day, his body seemed to have its own memory, automatically replaying that feeling every night.

Finally, she comforted herself with the thought that "the church does not restrict."

After all, church rules allow clergy to marry, have desires, and engage in sexual activity, as long as they don't violate doctrine, harm others, or commit any real sin. Occasional self-gratification is permitted by the goddess.

Inside the church, Wayne stood in the center of the main hall, looking around. The entire main hall was still in a dilapidated state.

Water magic cleans things up very quickly.

The church's terrain is well-designed, sloping from north to south, with the entrance slightly lower. Water, carrying dust and debris, flows towards the entrance and eventually down the stone steps into the drainage ditch outside.

Once.

Twice.

Three times.

After three washes, the dust in the church was completely removed. The stains on the benches were gone, the mold on the walls had faded, and the original stone slab texture of the floor was revealed.

Wayne couldn't help but marvel at how water magic could clean up while also purifying the environment.

The drainage ditch at the entrance is indeed very convenient; the people who built the church must have considered the cleaning issue.

Footsteps came from outside the door.

Several girls peeked inside.

Emma was the first to run in, her bare feet stepping on the wet floor, and she spun around.

"So clean!"

Ella followed behind, carefully avoiding the still-dry water stains. Lillian stood in the doorway, her brown eyes sweeping around the church.

"Mr. Wayne," she began.

"What kind of magic is that?"

Wayne looked at her.

"Water magic".

Lillian blinked.

"Can water magic cleanse the ground?"

"able."

Lillian thought for a moment.

"Can I do laundry then?"

Wayne was speechless, but still answered.

"Probably..."

People began to gather outside the church.

Not many people.

Seven or eight, a dozen or so, were scattered across the street and along the corners of walls. There were adventurers in old leather armor, refugees wrapped in tattered robes, women carrying baskets, and a few teenagers squatting against the wall.

They looked toward the church.

Pointing and commenting.

"The new guy is washing the floor."

"Wash the floor? With what?"

"I don't know, I just saw him standing inside, and with a wave of his hand, the water came out."

"A magician?"

"I heard it's some kind of bishop."

Someone in the crowd scoffed.

"This bishop may be handsome and seem upright," a burly adventurer grinned, "but I reckon it won't be long before he becomes a regular at brothels."

Several people nearby started laughing.

"That's right, that's how the previous ones all went."

"When he first arrived, he looked all respectable, but in less than half a month, he was running to Tsui Ying Street at night."

He could hear the discussions outside very clearly.

He ignored it.

Several girls stood behind him, each with a different expression.

Emma frowned, wanting to rush out and argue with those people, but Ella held her back.

The discussions among outsiders are not without merit.

Because the panel popped up.

[Third Bishop: Makudi]

[Duration of office: three months and seven days]

[His record on Cuiying Street: First visit on the tenth day after taking office, then twice a week thereafter. His most glorious night was ordering five girls, and he almost couldn't get up for prayer the next day. It's said he developed a new way of playing with holy water, which was very popular with the girls.]

[Cause of death: When the demonic tide struck, he had just left Emerald Nightingale Street and was running back in disheveled clothes when he was torn in two by a Frostwolf.]

Wayne looked at the words on the panel, and his lips twitched.

Bathing in holy water.

Is it what I think?

Playing this big...

He paused for two seconds, then glanced at the note again.

"It is said that he developed a new way of bathing with holy water, which is very popular with girls."

Fine.

He died a worthy death.

Wayne withdrew his gaze and turned to walk towards the church entrance.

Several girls followed behind him, and Emma was still muttering indignantly, "Why do those people have the right to talk bad about Master like that..."

Wayne ignored her.

He stood on the stone steps at the church entrance.

The people outside were still pointing and whispering, but when they saw him come out, their voices quieted down, but they didn't look away.

Wayne spoke up.

"I am Wayne, the new bishop of Frosttown."

No one responded.

"From now on, this church will resume operations." He paused. "Starting tomorrow, we will officially welcome believers, and hold morning prayers, confessions, and Mass, according to church rules."

Someone in the crowd scoffed.

"It's the same old story again." A burly adventurer with his arms crossed said, "The previous ones said the same thing, and none of them lasted more than three months."

Wayne looked at him.

"The past is the past, the present is the present."

The adventurer was stunned.

Wayne's gaze swept across the crowd.

"In addition," he said, "the church is recruiting monks and deacons, with priority given to those with experience. Those who are willing can come to the church to register tomorrow."

A commotion broke out in the crowd.

"Hiring?"

"Will you pay?"

"Does it include food and lodging?"

Wayne nodded.

"Food and lodging are provided; specific details of the benefits will be discussed when you register."

Someone is tempted.

But most people are still taking a wait-and-see approach.

"A monk?" another adventurer grinned. "A monk in this godforsaken place? Have you got a death wish?"

Several people nearby started laughing.

The adventurer finished laughing and waved at him.

"Your Excellency, you should think about how to survive the first month first. Once you've survived, we can talk about hiring."

The crowd gradually dispersed.

The crowd gradually dispersed.

The boys, mostly teenagers, ran the fastest, disappearing around the street corner in the blink of an eye. The women, carrying baskets, walked back, chatting amongst themselves. The adventurers, arm in arm, headed towards the tavern.

Wayne stood at the church door, watching them leave.

Emma leaned closer and looked up at him.

"Master, they are so annoying."

Aren't you angry?

Wayne thought for a moment.

"Don't be angry."

Emma blinked.

Why?

Wayne did not answer.
