Witch Training Manual: My Water Magic Is Wrong
Chapter 109 Sleepless Nights, Compensation
When the moon is setting in the west.
The back door of the church was pushed open.
Wayne and his two companions have returned.
The yard was quiet; no smoke was coming out of the kitchen chimney, and Vera hadn't gotten up yet. The light under the eaves was still on, and the tiny flame flickered in the wind, not going out.
The lights in both small rooms were already off.
Wayne slowed his pace as he passed by.
Mayfair followed behind, her steps even lighter than his. Kasha brought up the rear, her bare feet making no sound on the stone pavement.
"You should go and rest."
Wayne stopped at the fork in the corridor.
Mayfair nodded and pulled Kasha toward her room. Kasha took a couple of steps and then turned back.
"Lord Wayne, my water elemental..."
"Morning."
"Okay," Kasha said with a smile. "See you in the morning."
Wayne pushed open his bedroom door; he didn't turn on the light. Moonlight streamed in through the window, casting a silvery-white patch on the floor. He took off his coat, draped it over the back of a chair, went to the backyard, fetched a bucket of well water, and poured it over himself from head to toe.
Under the control of water magic, the water temperature is not cold.
Soon, a pale white light appeared on the eastern horizon, transitioning from grayish-blue to light orange, as if someone had lit a large lamp over there.
Wayne sat by the window for a while.
I didn't sleep.
Not sleepy.
Shortly after dawn, footsteps echoed in the corridor. The door was pushed open a crack, and a pale red head peeked in through the gap.
It's Emma.
"Master!" Her voice wasn't loud, but it carried an irrepressible excitement. "You're back!"
"Um."
Emma pushed open the door and pounced on Wayne, clinging to his arm. Ella followed behind, walking a little slower than Emma, and stood properly in front of Wayne.
"Master, you're back."
"Um."
"Are you alright?"
"no."
Ella looked him up and down, making sure he had no wounds, before letting out a sigh of relief. Emma slid off Wayne's arm and looked up at him.
"Master, you said you would be back before dawn."
"Yes, it's a bit late."
Emma's lips twitched slightly, but she glanced at the weariness in Wayne's eyes and felt a little unhappy.
"My master promised to sleep with me."
Wayne crouched down to be at eye level with her.
"It was my fault for not timing it properly; I broke my promise."
Emma's eyes reddened slightly, but she bit her lip and didn't cry. She wasn't the kind of little girl who cried easily; she was a fire witch, someone who could burn magical beasts to death, and she couldn't cry just because her master was a little late.
Wayne reached out and ruffled her hair.
"How about this?"
Emma looked up.
"I'll make up for what I owed you last night. Starting tonight, tomorrow night, the night after tomorrow, and the night after that, I'll sleep with you guys."
Emma's eyes lit up immediately.
The brightness wasn't gradual; it came out with a "snap," like someone had turned on a lamp inside. Her lips parted in a wide grin, revealing two small tiger teeth, and she transformed from a pitiful, wronged girl into a playful puppy.
"real?"
"real."
"No taking it back!"
"No regrets."
Emma turned around and hugged Ella tightly.
"Sister! Did you hear that?! Master said he'll sleep with us tonight! He'll sleep with us tomorrow night too! And the night after that too!"
Ella was shaken so badly she almost lost her balance. Her ears turned red, and the corners of her mouth curved into a smile. She whispered, "I heard you, I heard you. Stop shaking me."
Emma let go of her, then lunged back to hug Wayne's arm, clinging to him like a kitten that had found its nest.
"Master is the best!"
Wayne was a little dizzy from being shaken by her.
"Alright, alright, let go, go wash your face first."
"Not loose."
Emma.
"I won't loosen it."
Wayne sighed and dragged Emma, who was draped over his arm, toward the well. Ella followed behind, a smile never fading from her lips.
Half an hour later.
Vera poked her head out from the kitchen.
"Sir, breakfast is ready."
"They're here."
Breakfast was laid out on the small table in the kitchen: thick slices of bread, toasted until crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, topped with bright red jam. The milk was warm; Vera deliberately let it cool for a while before serving it.
Emma sat opposite Wayne, holding a slice of bread in her hand, taking a big bite, her cheeks bulging.
"Owner."
"Um."
"Did you encounter anything scary at the graveyard last night?"
Wayne thought for a moment.
"have."
Emma stopped talking.
"What?"
"A female warrior, fourth rank, who crawled out of the ground."
Emma's eyes widened.
"and then?"
"Then I beat her up."
"Did you win?"
"I won, and gave her a good beating from behind."
Emma breathed a sigh of relief and swallowed the bread in her mouth.
"That's good."
Wayne took a sip of milk.
"She's now with Mayfair, becoming her guardian corpse."
Emma's spoon stopped in mid-air.
"Guardian corpses? You mean those...corpses that can still move after they're dead?"
"Um."
"Where is she now?"
Wayne pointed in the direction of the corridor.
"Mayfair Room".
Emma shrank her neck.
"Master, that female warrior... she won't bite, will she?"
"I won't bite."
"That's good." Emma lowered her head to continue drinking her porridge, then looked up again after a couple of sips. "Is she pretty?"
Wayne did not answer the question.
Ella offered to explain for Wayne.
"If the master doesn't answer, then it's a good look."
Wayne continued drinking his porridge.
Emma turned to look at Ella.
"Sister, shall we go see that female soldier after we finish eating?"
Ella paused for a moment.
"Why...why go see her?"
"Let's see what she looks like," Emma said matter-of-factly. "The master's guardian corpse, shouldn't we see what she looks like?"
"That's Mayfair's guardian corpse."
"Mayfair is one of our people, and her guardian corpse is our guardian corpse." Emma's logic was so clear that Ella couldn't find a point to refute it.
Ella opened her mouth, then closed it again.
She glanced at Wayne.
Wayne was drinking his porridge with his head down, showing no intention of stopping him.
"Okay... alright."
Emma nodded in satisfaction, then lowered her head to continue drinking her porridge. After a couple of sips, she looked up again.
"Owner."
"Um."
"You said you'd sleep with us tonight, so can we leave the lights on tonight?"
Wayne looked at her.
Why?
Emma blushed slightly.
"Because...because I want to watch my master sleep."
Ella lowered her head beside her, her ears turning bright red.
Wayne was silent for a moment.
"OK."
When Lillian walked over, her hair was still messy.
A single tuft of hair stuck up from the top of her head, swaying in the morning breeze like an antenna. She was wearing a wrinkled nightgown, the neckline askew, revealing a glimpse of her collarbone. Clearly, she had just woken up and hadn't even washed her face.
She walked up to Wayne and stopped.
"Mr. Wayne."
"Um."
"I'm injured."
Wayne looked at her.
"where?"
Lillian held out her left hand; there was a cut on the back of her hand, not deep, but not shallow either. The blood had congealed, forming a dark red scab, and the edges were still a little swollen.
"I got scratched by a splinter during training yesterday," she said. "I didn't pay attention to it at the time, but it hurt a bit when I woke up after a nap."
Lillian continued.
"Can you cast a water spell on me?"
Wayne agreed.
On the other side, the two little ones immediately showed great interest. They had clearly heard a lot of rumors during this time, so they were quite curious about Wayne's water magic.
now.
Lillian is the best subject of observation.
