The next morning, Ji Jie waited outside Lao Zheng's office.

Old Zheng had just sat down with his teapot when he looked up and saw her. He didn't mince words: "Ji Jie, Wang Hui and Hui San'er have made contact. The surrounding area is all set up for you."

Ji Jie nodded and said, "Okay." She paused, then placed a document on Lao Zheng's desk. "By the way, you leaders should also study the matter of criticizing Yang Zhen. People like him won't learn their lesson unless they're ashamed."

Old Zheng picked up the teapot, took a sip, and said unhurriedly, "Yang Zhen is busy investigating the explosives matter. That kid asked me to tell you to be careful and not to end up like him." He put down the teacup and added, "He also said that if you need anyone, you can have Zhang Yang go and help you."

Ji Jie rolled her eyes: "Let him worry about himself first."

Old Zheng smiled at her expression, picked up the teapot, and left.

Yang Zhen led Zhang Yang into the interrogation room. The factory director of Yuexin Machine Tool Factory had been sitting inside for quite some time. When he looked up and saw Yang Zhen come in, he shifted uncomfortably in his chair.

Yang Zhen sat down and cut to the chase: "Do you know what the crime is for harboring seventy kilograms of explosives?"

The factory manager nodded repeatedly, sweat streaming down his temples: "I know, I know, I understand."

Yang Zhen leaned forward slightly: "Those explosives could flatten your factory."

The factory director's psychological defenses completely collapsed at this point, and his voice trembled with tears: "I was wrong, I have let down the country and the people."

Yang Zhen waved his hand: "Alright, stop with the high-sounding talk. I'm asking you, besides you and the accountant, who else knew that this money was in the safe?"

The factory manager wiped the sweat from his face with his sleeve and said, "We're a private factory. Nobody knows about us except me and the accountant."

Yang Zhen dragged the chair back, the legs scraping against the cement floor with a short, sharp sound: "Think it over carefully now. I'll give you a chance to redeem yourself. If these seventy kilograms of explosives explode, your crime will be much more serious. Think it over carefully."

The factory manager lowered his head, rubbing his hands back and forth on his knees. After a long silence, he suddenly looked up: "Oh, right, there's someone who knows."

Yang Zhen stared at him: "Who?"

"That kid, Li Wei."

Yang Zhen asked, "Li Wei? Who is that?"

The factory manager said, "Our former accountant, that kid took advantage of the factory and did shady things, so I fired him. He knew that on this day every month, I would put the money in the safe first."

Yang Zhen asked, "Are you telling the truth?"

The factory manager nodded vigorously: "The truth."

Zhang Yang looked through the one-way glass outside the interrogation room for a while and felt that the man did not seem to be lying. He turned to the police officer guarding him and said, "Find a doctor to take a look at him."

After leaving the interrogation room, Zhang Yang walked up to Yang Zhen and said, "Brother Yang, do you think that thief stole so much explosives? Could he have sold it?"

Yang Zhen's expression was not good: "That's hard to say, this is a big deal."

Zhang Yang thought for a moment and said, "Could we try to find out what's going on from someone in the underworld?"

Yang Zhen turned to look at him, raising an eyebrow: "You have connections?"

Zhang Yang smiled and said, "Qin Feng graduated from police academy and came back, right? He has an informant, and I want to go and ask him about it."

"Qin Feng? The one from the Second Brigade of the Municipal Public Security Bureau?"

Zhang Yang nodded: "That's right."

Yang Zhen said, "Then you should go and ask. It's one way. Ding Jian and I will go find Li Wei."

"Yes."

Zhang Yang drove to Qin Feng's workplace. Qin Feng had now been upgraded to the head of a police station in Chaoyang District. His office was small but tidy, with a white porcelain teacup on the table and a map of the jurisdiction hanging on the wall.

Zhang Yang knocked on the open door and peeked inside: "Director Qin, I've come to see you."

Qin Feng looked up and saw it was him. He stood up and said with a smile, "Zhang Yang? Long time no see."

Zhang Yang entered the room and said somewhat embarrassedly, "I'm really sorry, after completing the mission I went to the Major Crimes Unit 6, and there were many cases, so I haven't had time to come and see you."

Qin Feng waved his hand: "It's nothing. I also benefited from your help. I made a contribution and got a promotion. It's great."

After exchanging a few pleasantries, Qin Feng pushed the teacup towards him and asked, "You came to see me because you need something?"

Zhang Yang didn't beat around the bush and nodded, saying, "When I was interning at the Second Brigade of the Municipal Public Security Bureau, I heard that you, Chief Qin, had an informant? I'd like to find out some details."

Qin Feng said, "It's alright, you go ahead and ask."

Zhang Yang lowered his voice: "Yuexin Machine Tool Factory has been robbed. Seventy kilograms of explosives have been stolen. Your informant is a legendary figure. See if you can find out anything about him."

When Qin Feng heard the words "seventy kilograms," his hand holding the teacup visibly trembled, spilling tea onto the table. He put the cup down, looked up at Zhang Yang, and asked, "Seventy kilograms? Are you sure?"

Zhang Yang said, "I'm sure."

Qin Feng didn't say anything more, took out his phone from his pocket and stood up: "I'm going out to make a call."

Zhang Yang sat in his office for less than ten minutes. He could faintly hear Qin Feng talking on the phone in the hallway—his tone was low but his speech was rapid. A moment later, Qin Feng pushed open the door, phone in hand, his expression much more serious than before: "Found it. I'm sending you the address via text message. You'd better be careful; these guys are ruthless."

Zhang Yang stood up and said, "Don't worry. I'm leaving."

On his way back to the station, Zhang Yang received a text message from Qin Feng. A group of people called "Tian Gou" had stolen the explosives from Li Wei. The message included an address.

Back at the station, Yang Zhen and his team were already interrogating Li Wei.

In the interrogation room, Li Wei huddled in a chair, his face showing both fear and regret. He confessed everything in one breath: "We went there for the 200,000 yuan. We saw two other boxes next to the safe and took them with us. On the way, we found out they were explosives. I thought they were hard to handle, so I thought I'd sell them to make more money. That's when I contacted Tian Gou's gang."

Yang Zhen asked, "A celestial dog?"

Li Wei nodded: "It's a group of people I just met. They're pretty ruthless. Their leader is called Tian Gou. They came to see the goods, but then said they didn't want to buy them, saying the explosives were fake."

Yang Zhen asked, "When did this happen?"

Li Wei said, "Last night."

Yang Zhen took a step forward: "Where's the explosives?"

Li Wei's voice began to tremble: "Last night we were just figuring out what to do when a group of masked men suddenly appeared, almost killing us, and they stole all the explosives."

After the interrogation ended, Yang Zhen walked out of the interrogation room and saw Zhang Yang already sitting in his office. Yang Zhen went over and asked, "How's it going on your end?"

Zhang Yang briefly explained the address Qin Feng had given him and the information about Tiangou: "It should be confirmed that Tiangou stole the explosives. What about Li Wei's side?"

Yang Zhen said, "They've all been released; it's pretty much the same information you provided."

In the afternoon, a case analysis meeting was held. The blackboard in the meeting room was covered with a diagram of relationships between people and address labels, and the air was filled with the smell of smoke and the bitterness of instant coffee.

Yang Zhen spoke first, tapping the blackboard with his finger: "Of the 100 kilograms of explosives, we've recovered 30 kilograms. The other 70 kilograms are in Tian Gou's hands."

Chang Baole leaned back in his chair and gasped, "Seventy kilograms? That's enough to blow up a building."

Ji Jie sat opposite her, her tone firm: "This is a ticking time bomb; we have to race against time."

Yang Zhen said, "This theft of 200,000 yuan is our best opportunity. We must retrieve the explosives as quickly as possible and make sure they don't explode."

Ji Jie nodded: "One sound means failure."

Just then, Old Zheng pushed open the door and swept his gaze around the room. "Oh, everyone's here. Perfect timing. I'll relay the contents of the meeting to you all. The bureau is very satisfied with our arrest of Luo Jianjun and the recovery of these thirty kilograms of explosives. They're preparing to issue a commendation. They encourage us to keep up the good work and recover the remaining seventy kilograms of explosives." He placed the folder on the table and said, enunciating each word clearly, "We absolutely cannot hear a single explosion."

"Yes," everyone in the room answered in unison.

Just as Lao Zheng was about to turn around and go back to his office, his phone rang. He answered it with his back to the conference room door.

"it's me."

Old Zheng's shoulders tensed abruptly after hearing what was said on the other end of the phone.

"What?"

His voice changed tone, and everyone in the conference room looked up at him. Old Zheng turned around, and the expression on his face made everyone's hearts sink.

"It exploded?"
