Chapter 20 There's a Ghost Under the Skirt

"What are you doing?" came a roar.

"You fucking dare to hit me?" he roared even more furiously.

The two men started exchanging blows with their fists.

"It's so noisy!" someone shouted from the side.

Then everyone was woken up and started cursing.

"Are you courting death?" Madam Bai couldn't take it anymore. She came out with her sword, ready to chop someone down.

The female soldiers around Madam Black and Madam White were recruited and trained by them before they married Meng Haigong, when they were mountain queens.

The male soldiers were assigned by Meng Haigong to take orders from them.

Meng Haigong had only just begun his rebellion. He himself did not come from a powerful family or clan, so he naturally recruited mostly江湖客 (jianghu ke, wandering swordsmen) and vagrants from the lower classes.

Even after Madam Bai came out, the two men were still angrily throwing punches and fighting each other.

Madam Bai, her face contorted with rage, floated over and kicked both of them away with two powerful blows.

The two people curled up in pain before they finally stopped.

"What's going on?" Madam Bai asked coldly, staring at the two of them.

She was skilled in martial arts and even more domineering than Madam Hei. The two men were afraid of her and behaved much better.

"This guy beat me up for no reason," one of them shouted, pointing at the other.

"He was perfectly fine, and then he threw a rock at me from behind."

"When am I going to throw a rock at you?"

"You're my only backer, who else could it be but you?"

The two blamed each other, and if Madam Bai hadn't been there to watch, they would have started fighting again.

Madam Bai turned around: "Did you see anything?"

The others shook their heads: "I was too sleepy. I was startled awake when they were already fighting." "What's going on? Let them fight outside."

At the same time, Wu Qing opened the system at the edge and found that neither the eerie value nor the ferocity value had increased.

Is this method of sowing discord not acceptable?

He quietly drifted under a female soldier's uniform, lay down there, and looked up at her.

The female soldier watched the argument and slowly realized something was wrong.

Looking down, she saw a figure lying under her skirt. The figure seemed to be peeking out from under her battle robe, looking up at her with great interest.

"Ah—!" she screamed.

"What is it now?" Madam Bai turned around abruptly, she was almost driven crazy by these people.

"There's a ghost! There's a ghost!" the female soldier pointed under her robe.

"Where is the ghost?" Madam Bai glared at her.

"Under the skirt..." The female soldier's face turned pale.

The surrounding male soldiers burst into laughter. Madam Bai stepped forward and unceremoniously lifted her lower robe: "Where's the ghost?"

Someone laughed, "Maybe there's a big treasure hidden... I... I was just kidding." The sharp glare from Madam Bai startled him, and he shrank behind the campfire.

The Black Lady emerged and looked at the female soldier: "What kind of ghost did you see?"

The female soldier said, "It looks like...it looks like the boy who died up ahead."

Madam Black looked at two female soldiers who had emerged disheveled from another small tent and asked one of them, "What were you shouting about up ahead?"

The woman was pale: "I...I think I saw that guy's face too."

The others whispered among themselves: "Hey, what's going on?" "Could it really be a ghost?" "I just felt that the guy in front suddenly rushing out to get himself killed was pretty weird." "That's not what you said earlier."

After a moment of contemplation, Madam Hei pointed to the two men who had dumped the body in front of her: "Take two more men with you and see if the body is still there."

The two men exchanged a glance, then, taking a few more companions with them, headed deeper into the woods, whispering amongst themselves as they went:

"Are they seeing things?"

"Exactly, with his chest slashed open, how could he not be dead?"

"If they can come out even though they're really dead, wouldn't that be even better..."

"Stop talking, it's the middle of the night, and I feel a chill in the air."

They arrived at the dumping site, dug away the soil and branches in the pit, and then looked at each other in bewilderment.

"Did you really just leave it here?" the person who came with them asked suspiciously.

"How could this be wrong?" one of them exclaimed. "This is it."

They searched the surrounding area for a while but found nothing. All they could feel was the rustling of leaves and the swaying shadows, creating an indescribably eerie atmosphere.

They hurried back to camp.

Madam Black asked, "How is it?"

The men whispered, "Gone!" "The body is gone." "It was definitely left there."

Everyone was instantly terrified and felt a chill run down their spines.

Madam Bai exclaimed, "How could such a thing be? Take me there to see!"

She didn't believe in ghosts or monsters, and, brandishing her sword, forced the men to take her there to see for herself.

When they arrived at the location, they found no body. Apart from the traces of the group digging again, there were no signs of wild animals disturbing the area.

"Could it really have turned into a ghost?" someone whispered nearby.

"Even if you become a ghost after death, how come there's no corpse left?" Madam Bai glared at the man.

"Could it be that he's not dead?" another person asked.

Madam Bai's face darkened: "Go ahead and slash me with your sword, see if you can still live with your chest split open like that!"

The man took a step back, not daring to try.

Madam Bai looked around, but couldn't make sense of it all.

The night was dark and windy, and the swaying branches and leaves seemed like shadowy figures.

Madam Bai's face turned pale, and she led them back to the camp.

Madam Black asked, "How is the situation?"

Madam Bai whispered, "Sister, I think this place is really strange. It might be a problem with the mountains."

Although she lowered her voice, the surroundings were completely silent, and everyone heard her. The crowd looked around blankly, at a loss for what to do.

Madam Hei thought to herself, "If things continue like this, no one will be able to rest until the middle of the night. We might as well leave here first."

So he looked up and said, "Let's not rest yet. Pack up the tents, get some more torches, and leave this mountain tonight."

Madam Bai brandished her sword and shouted, "Don't let your imaginations run wild. There are no demons or monsters in the world. They've just been seeing things. As for the corpses, they were probably carried off by wolves."

Although there were no signs of wild animals disturbing the area around the pit, she still tried her best to reassure people.

The group felt that this place was indeed somewhat eerie, so they hurriedly packed their things, took torches, led their horses, and were really ready to set off.

Suddenly, the horses all kicked their hooves and neighed, as if they had seen something they couldn't see at all.

With a neigh, three horses broke free and galloped away into the distance. The rest struggled desperately, and soon a few more lost their reins and rushed off into the distance.

"What did they see?" a female soldier asked in a trembling voice.

"Don't talk nonsense!" Madam Bai glared at her, not allowing her to further disrupt the morale of the army.
