Conquering the Multiverse Starting with the Black Robe
Chapter 3 First Encounter with Ryan and His Mother
The wind whistled and roared past his ears, slicing across his face like a razor and whipping Rean's black hair wildly backward.
In fact, this was his first time experiencing the joy of flying. Who hasn't fantasized about becoming a superhero and soaring through the sky?
Rean became interested and rushed up to the clouds, attempting a dive. The acceleration and intense weightlessness from breaking the sound barrier made his blood boil. Just as his body was about to touch the trees below, he suddenly climbed upwards, leaving a trail of jets in the air thousands of meters above the ground.
Such thrilling behavior is not just for fun; Rean is also adapting to his own abilities.
He adjusted quickly. With the enhancement of his superhuman senses, Rean possessed amazing learning abilities, allowing him to easily coordinate his body. After several self-corrections, he became like a bird born to fly, showing no signs of rustiness.
Rean was excited and even wanted to let out a long howl, but reason told him that doing so would only result in a cold draft blowing into his mouth.
As the novelty wore off and dopamine levels stopped rising, he gradually calmed down and collected his thoughts.
After flying for a while, Rean spotted a lake below and immediately landed.
It slowed down and fell into the water.
The icy lake water instantly enveloped him. Rean surfaced, tore off his blood-stained clothes, and began to wash his body.
Under the cool moonlight.
The boy standing on the shore looked completely transformed, as if he had undergone a sacred baptism, cleansing him of his sins. But Rean knew very well that what lay deep in his heart was an even more burning desire for revenge.
If Edgar had simply chosen to abandon him, Rean probably wouldn't have cared about what Walter had done, since it was a mutually beneficial arrangement. But their attempt to kill him to silence him had undoubtedly enraged him, and he would settle the score with them sooner or later.
He was shirtless, his wet black hair plastered to his forehead, his face was handsome, and a sharp edge flickered beneath his calm gaze.
Although his physique was slender, his muscles were well-proportioned and closely attached to his bones, like a perfect work of art. Every inch of his muscles contained extremely terrifying explosive power.
Rean brought up the panel and found that the progress had jumped to 53%, an increase of 1%.
"The life energy provided by ordinary people is far too little. What would happen if we absorbed it from superhumans?"
Rean narrowed his eyes, not frustrated, but rather feeling it was only natural. Although the armed personnel he killed and absorbed at the Omega base were well-trained, they were still essentially ordinary people.
His successful escape was also due to the fact that Project Omega had not made much progress, so Vought did not arrange for superhumans to guard the experimental base.
Rean wiped the water off his face and pondered, "Maybe I can make use of 'The Butcher.' That guy's wife was raped by Homelander, and he wishes all superhumans were dead. He hates Wot to the core."
Furthermore, he has a severe self-destructive tendency and would do anything to kill Homelander. As the saying goes, the enemy of my enemy is my friend, making him a potential partner.
"Using him to get revenge on Walter, I can also take the opportunity to quickly improve myself. It's a great idea."
"But right now, I need a clean set of clothes and a safe place to stay. Everything else can be planned and discussed later."
Having decided on a direction, Rean gathered his thoughts, took to the sky, and used his super hearing to sense the general direction, flying towards a populated area.
A few minutes later, deep in the forest, a strangely unnatural isolation wall appeared in the field of vision, catching Rean's attention.
He lowered his altitude and looked down, discovering that within the high walls, which resembled a fence, lay a secluded villa, a veritable paradise.
"Wozefa? Could it be such a coincidence?"
Rean was delighted, never expecting that he would stumble upon Ryan and Becca's hiding place by sheer chance.
However, this makes sense. Based on the speed, he had flown about forty kilometers. It was quite reasonable for Vought to arrange for Ryan and his mother to live near the Omega base, so that armed personnel could be quickly mobilized if any problems arose.
"It's one thing for Walter to build a house in this godforsaken place, but he even went so far as to build a wall around it. I wonder who he's trying to keep out. He's really got a lot of money."
Rean muttered a casual remark, lowered his body, flew to the vicinity, skimmed over the treetops, and landed in the small courtyard behind the villa.
In the yard, a seven or eight-year-old boy was squatting on the lawn building sandcastles. Hearing the noise, the boy looked up, a hint of confusion appearing in his clear blue eyes.
"You can fly, but you're not Homelander." Ryan stood up, brushed the dirt off his hands, and asked curiously, "Homelander has blond hair and wears a cape made of the national flag. You don't have any of those things. Who are you? Are you a superhero too?"
"No, kid, there are no superheroes in this world, only a bunch of villains who are very good at disguising themselves." Rean shook his head with a smile. He understood the moment he saw Ryan. At this time, the timeline of the Black Robe world should be in the early part of the story, because Ryan has not yet grown up.
On a more optimistic note, perhaps the people of Homeland haven't even discovered the existence of the mother and child yet, which would give them a lot of room to maneuver.
Suddenly, the villa's door was pushed open, and a panicked woman with a gun rushed out.
"Damn it, get away from him!" Becca, wary, shielded Ryan behind her, a Glock pistol in her hand, the muzzle pointed directly at the stranger's chest. "Who are you? How did you get in?!"
Honestly, Rean's appearance at this moment was really not good. Although he was good-looking, his act of touching someone else's son naked almost caused this mother, who was always on edge, to have a breakdown on the spot.
"Relax, ma'am. I'm just an unarmed ordinary person. I won't hurt anyone, and I don't think anyone wants to get hurt." Rean didn't want to cause unnecessary conflict, so he raised his hands and took two steps back to indicate that he meant no harm.
"Listen to me, I just escaped from a place that was like a concentration camp, and I accidentally got lost in the forest. As you can see, my clothes were torn while I was running away, which is why you see me in this disheveled state."
"Nonsense! I don't believe a word you say. Now, get out of our house right now, or I'll shoot!"
Rean's tone sounded very sincere, but Becca was unmoved. She wouldn't believe him easily. Dr. Parker had assured her that no one would find them through that damned wall.
This means that the guy in front of us definitely has some kind of purpose.
She will not allow anyone to hurt Ryan.
Seeing this, Rean immediately realized that bluffing wouldn't work, so he decided to give her something tougher. "OK, Becca, calm down. To be honest, Billy sent me. You like calling him that, right? William, William Butcher."
Fifteen minutes later.
Rean put on a trench coat; yes, it was the same coat Butcher had worn before, the same one from the TV series.
Although it didn't fit Rean perfectly and was a bit too big for him, it has to be said that after putting on the coat, his entire demeanor changed instantly.
If Boucher looked like a pornographic version of The Matrix protagonist in this outfit, then he really does bear a striking resemblance to Leo, the protagonist of The Matrix.
"Thank you again for your help, Ms. Becca. I have a feeling we will meet again in the future."
Rean stood in the courtyard, took one last look at Ryan, who was curiously hiding behind the door, smiled at him, and then soared into the sky, disappearing into the vast night.
Becca watched the dark figure fly away before she snapped out of her daze and closed the door. Her mind was in turmoil; the information revealed in the conversation was shocking.
"Alright, Ryan, it's bedtime."
"But Mom, I haven't watched today's 'Super Buddies' yet!"
"Then let's leave it for tomorrow! Ryan, just... listen to me, okay?"
Becca took a deep breath, but just as she closed Ryan's bedroom door, the landline in the living room suddenly rang, startling her. "Jesus!"
She answered the phone, and Dr. Parker's anxious voice immediately came through the other end, "Listen, Becca, you and Ryan need to get out of there right now. It's not safe there anymore. That madman has found you!"
"A madman? You assured me that Ryan was absolutely safe here, and what happened? A damn superhuman barged in!" Beja struggled to control his rage.
Parker, on the other end, rubbed his forehead and sighed, "Yes, I did say that, but now an unexpected thing has happened, you understand, Becca?"
"Damn it!" Becca cursed, hugging her shoulders and pacing back and forth in the room, her haggard face filled with fear and unease. Finally, resigned, she turned back and picked up the phone. "Okay, what should I do now?"
Are you sure he's already left?
Becca leaned against the wall, raising her hand as if to mention Butcher, but stopped herself, simply nodding and saying, "Yeah, I saw him fly away with my own eyes."
Parker on the other end breathed a sigh of relief, his tone much gentler. "Very good. Now, get ready. You need to leave there immediately. I'll have someone move you and Ryan away. The people I've arranged will be here in five minutes."
"Where to?"
There was a moment of silence on the other end of the phone, then it rang again, "Upstate New York, Chester County..."
The phone hangs up.
"Fuck..." Becca rubbed her temples, opened the refrigerator, poured herself a glass of wine, and drank it all in one gulp. She was really fed up with this life of hiding and being unable to control her own destiny.
However, Becca did not notice that on the roof of the villa, a figure had been standing quietly ever since she answered the phone.
His coat fluttered in the night wind, and a pair of brown eyes gleamed in the darkness.
It's not that he likes to cosplay Batman or be a pervert who eavesdrops on other people's conversations, but Rean really needs something to use against Homelander right now.
Walter naively thought that changing the location would allow them to hide their chips, but nothing stays secret forever.
Ryan is Homelander's only weakness, and as long as Rean knows Ryan's movements, he will have the right to join the game.
Although it was unethical to do so, Rean never considered himself a morally upright person with principles, and if necessary, he would not mind doing some extreme things to ensure his safety.
