Conquering the Multiverse Starting with the Black Robe
Chapter 1 "Failed Experiments"
Blue Star, America.
Evening, at an underground experimental base.
Stan Edgar, known as "Gary Fried Chicken," stands outside the quarantine room wearing a dark blue suit.
The man who steered the Water Empire always maintained an elegant and composed demeanor, as if nothing could move him.
"Mr. Edgar, it is a great honor for me to come in person." Dr. Vogbaum stood to the side and offered a soft compliment. His eyes were bloodshot, clearly indicating that he had not had a good rest in a long time.
Edgar ignored him, his gaze scrutinizing the boy inside the enclosed room.
The black-haired, brown-eyed boy sat quietly on the bed, engrossed in reading a comic book about superheroes, seemingly unaware that there was a strange visitor outside today.
If it weren't for the environment he was in, and the electric shock collar around his neck, he would just look like an ordinary boy next door.
"Excuse my bluntness, but is this the final scientific achievement of the 'Omega Project'?" Edgar adjusted his glasses, turning to the elderly man beside him. "The return on a project that burns through two hundred million dollars of the company's budget every year?"
Sweat beaded on Vogelbaum's forehead as he hurriedly retorted, "Mr. Edgar! You should know how unstable the original compound 5 is when it is undiluted."
Before this, we had failed countless times, and most of us didn't even survive the first injection. But Rean was different... He not only survived, but also perfectly integrated that power.
He has unlimited potential!
"Enough, Doctor!"
Edgar abruptly raised his hand, interrupting him without any politeness. His tone was calm but cold, and his words were harsh. "Two hundred million in budget every year, for five years, a total of one billion US dollars!"
But what was the result?
A superhuman whose every metric is mediocre.
If Walter does every deal like this, we'll bankrupt the company sooner or later!
"But he survived, his body was completely intact, and he perfectly absorbed the enhanced original version of Compound V, which is a miracle in itself!"
"You understand, a few failures don't prove anything. The experimental approach is correct, and we still have a lot of room for improvement. It's just... we need some time to adjust." The doctor retorted softly.
"An isolated case? Isn't this the only successful example?"
Vogelbaum's immediate words.
"Doctor, I must remind you that Waters is a pharmaceutical company responsible for producing stable products. As for creating miracles, I think that's God's business."
Edgar turned around and narrowed his eyes: "And personally, I would never call them 'miracles'."
Although Homelander is considered by many to be the most powerful superhuman... in the end, he is nothing more than an accidental product that is difficult to replicate, a defective product, a double-edged sword that can hurt itself if not used properly.
Of course, he's still relatively obedient for now and remains the company's top cash cow.
He tapped the glass with his finger.
"The test data is clearly written. Apart from being physically strong, this child doesn't even reach the level of a second-tier superhuman in other aspects, let alone compare to Homelander."
A billion dollars, a top-tier team spending five years, and the result is such a low-end product. It's less a "miracle" and more a disastrous investment that resulted in total financial ruin.
"Doctor, you once led Project Odyssey, creating superhumans as powerful as Homelander. The company originally had high hopes for you, but the result of 'Omega' is truly disheartening."
Upon hearing this, Vogbaum said dejectedly, "Perhaps we just haven't developed his abilities yet. Please give me some more time; maybe it's some kind of powerful, latent ability..."
Edgar shook his head slightly. "No, we won't pin our future on a spur-of-the-moment stroke of luck. Besides, what kind of latent ability do you think could be powerful enough to rival Homelander's?"
Vogelbaum was speechless under questioning. As a researcher and the leader of the team, he had failed to produce results that satisfied his superiors. In the end, the blame would fall on him, and he fell silent.
"Alright, Doctor. I'll have someone dispose of these failed experiments, and the project is terminated."
Vogelbaum was taken aback.
"Clean up? What does that mean? Oh God, this is so cruel, Mr. Edgar!"
"I think we could send him to Elmira, or perhaps Gododkin University? Rean is clever, he's exceptional, he won't tell anyone about this, sir, I promise!"
Vogelbaum was shocked. He knew the other party was cold-blooded, but he never expected Edgar to be so ruthless.
Edgar glanced at him indifferently, his tone light, but he didn't give him any room to refuse. "I regret this, but Project Omega must not be exposed."
All of the company's operations are based on the premise that superheroes are safe and controllable.
What if the superhumans who emerge from here have certain flaws, or even fatal hidden dangers?
When these uncertainties erupt and cause incalculable serious consequences, our friends in politics won't be as easy to talk to as they are now. Do you understand what I mean, Doctor?
Looking at his old friend, who looked as haggard as if he had aged ten years in an instant, Edgar sighed softly and patted him on the shoulder. "I think you should take a good rest, old buddy. The company will arrange a nice vacation for you."
Faced with this indirect threat, Vogelbaum dared not say anything more, fearing he would become the next one to disappear. He looked at the boy inside through the window with a complicated expression.
……
"Clean up? Interesting, are they preparing to silence us?"
Inside the isolation room, Rean closed the comic book in his hand, slowly raised his head, and his deep brown eyes gleamed.
Edgar and Vogelbaum never dreamed that the defective product they considered "no threat" had just overheard every single word of their conversation through soundproof glass.
He could even hear Edgar's steady heartbeat and Vogbaum's rapid breathing during their argument.
This is one of Rean's abilities—the same super hearing as Homelander.
Who would believe that a boy who had never left the laboratory since he was a little over ten years old and had been under strict surveillance for five years could be so patient and pretend to be harmless day after day for so many years?
The reason is simple: Rean is a time traveler, a mentally healthy adult over twenty years old.
One night, after an unexpected car accident, he transmigrated to this world with his memories of the messed-up plot of "The Boys".
For this reason, Rean is very familiar with the temperament of the Vought Corporation.
If you perform strongly enough, you'll be worthy of being pushed to the forefront and enjoying all the glory; but if you're too crazy, you'll be seen as an unstable threat.
It's obvious that Homelanders have never liked being low-key or overly pretentious, acting like a perpetually insatiable brat, which led to the emergence of Project Omega.
His uncontrollable behavior not only displeased many people, but also gradually made the top brass at Walter feel threatened.
They vaguely sensed the risk and signs of things getting out of control.
Thus, Project Omega was born.
As for myself, I should have served as an "insurance" for the people of my motherland, to prevent problems before they arise.
"It seems the Water Corporation has completely lost patience with me. And rightly so, perhaps they've realized Mary's true value; with her as an alternative, my existence becomes dispensable. After all, I'm just a disappointing failure, aren't I?"
A meaningful smile curved at the corner of Rean's lips.
He has been waiting for five years.
Waiting for this body, infused with an enhanced version of Compound V, to fully mature.
Vogbaum was right; he did indeed possess a rare "hidden ability."
He awakened at the very beginning of his transmigration. It was not granted by Compound V, but it was quite powerful, and it could definitely be described as a dimensional reduction attack for the Black Robe World.
With a thought, a panel that only he could see appeared before Rean's eyes:
[Host: Rean (Perfect fitter for the enhanced version of the original Compound V)]
[Inherent Abilities (derived from Compound V): Super strength, speed, hearing, senses, flight, etc. Current progress: 52%]
[Special Ability: Life Drain (Can strengthen and restore oneself by absorbing the life force of those they come into contact with)]
Originally, he wanted to wait until he was an adult and his body was fully developed before intervening in this world... Rean closed his eyes and felt the terrifying power that had been dormant within him for many years.
Since the Walter Corporation couldn't wait to kill him to cover it up, he wouldn't mind flipping the table ahead of time.
Walter thought he was a failure, but they were wrong.
I am a superhuman, a more advanced and perfect being than the people of my homeland.
The substance flowing in the body of the Motherland is not the original compound 5, so it does not have the anti-aging constitution of Soldier Boy or Storm Girl, and its wounds heal extremely slowly after being injured.
Of course, in the world of the Black Robe, there are very few people capable of hurting him. In terms of stats, he is indeed at the pinnacle of this world because he inherited the genes of the Soldier Boy, making him far more powerful than other superhumans.
But these problems do not exist for Rean.
With a base panel superior to Homelander's, combined with his own cheat-like abilities, the resulting power is far more than just one plus one equals two.
He can use his cheat ability to plunder the life force of others to enhance himself, without any side effects, making him essentially a "vampire superman" without any weaknesses.
The fact that life can absorb this bug-like ability means that he can achieve immortality.
He will become the only true "god" in this world.
At that moment, a very slight noise came from the vent above Rean's head.
hiss--
A colorless and odorless gas of high concentration, used to induce nerve stimulation, entered through the vents and spread rapidly, quickly filling the entire room. The dosage was enough to knock out an adult elephant.
"Making a move so quickly? Just what I wanted."
Rean's eyes flickered slightly.
Given his current physical condition, this low-level anesthetic gas would have absolutely no effect.
But he did not resist.
Instead, he turned the tables and coughed a few times in a mocking manner.
Then, her body went limp and collapsed onto the bed as if she had lost her support, and the comic book in her hand slipped from her grasp.
Three minutes later.
The isolation door opened.
"Target has lost consciousness. Repeat, target has lost consciousness. Imminent disposal."
The person in charge of the cleanup operation reported via walkie-talkie and gave eye contact to his subordinates.
One of them understood immediately, and with a sinister grin, stepped forward and roughly grabbed Rean's shoulder.
To be honest, he liked this job. Compared to working as a security guard in a bar and bullying some unarmed ordinary people, dealing with these scumbag superhumans was obviously more fulfilling.
However, just a second before that hand was about to touch his body, Rean, who had been in a "coma" state, opened his eyes without warning.
"Deathly Rhys, Mazefak!"
Before the "cleaner" could react, Rean grabbed the man's thick wrist with his other hand.
Life is in our grasp!
In an instant, an indescribable heat washed over me. It traveled up my arm and spread throughout my entire body in a flash!
An endless stream of life force, like a torrent bursting through a dam, surged and poured into Rean's body!
"Aaaaaah! No! Let me go!!"
The man immediately let out a bloodcurdling scream.
"A generous gift, thank you!"
Under the horrified gaze of his two companions, the burly man captured by Rean visibly shrank away.
His skin began to wither, his golden hair quickly faded, and large age spots appeared on his face. In just a few seconds, he transformed from a strong man in his prime into a white-haired old man with a withered appearance!
Such a bizarre scene is truly horrifying!
"This feeling... is simply indescribable!"
Rean let out a long sigh, his throat involuntarily pounding.
That yearning and trembling from the depths of the soul is no less intense than the first sip of ice-cold cola taken by a dying person rescued from the scorching desert.
The humiliation of five years of being kept in the dark was finally released at this moment, and this was just the appetizer before the feast!
